Is Fox Developing a Live Action X-men TV Series?

It's always interesting when big rumors pop up right before a major Comic-Con. Those things tend to happen before San Diego, but now we're seeing it happen with New York Comic-Con right around the corner. And this is a pretty big one with Bleeding Cool reporting that 20th Century Fox are developing a TV series centered on Marvel's merry mutants, the X-men.

According to the site, Fox is in "deep development" on a live-action X-men series, and that's pretty much all they got. As Marvel has broadened their cinematic universe to include television with Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, and their upcoming Netflix shows, it shouldn't be surprising that Fox would want to follow suit. They're already building a connected universe with the X-men that mirrors Marvel's The Avengers, and adding a couple of TV series would fit into that model.

This wouldn't be the first live-action X-men show to hit television, either. In '96 Fox aired a terrible TV film based on the Generation X team of teenaged mutants, with hopes it would become a series. It didn't. Five years later another series titled Mutant X debuted, and was wrapped up in so much legal mumbo jumbo regarding its ties to the X-men that it no longer resembled the comics.

Expect questions about this rumor to be flying fast and furious throughout NYCC this weekend.
