Kim Dickens takes Female Lead in 'The Walking Dead' Spinoff

An MVP in everything from Deadwood to Treme to David Fincher's Gone Girl, Kim Dickens has been waiting for her moment in the spotlight. Well, she's just about to get it. Dickens has landed the female lead in AMC's spinoff of The Walking Dead, joining Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey.

The series will be set in Los Angeles, far away from Rick Grimes' band of survivors, and center on a divorced teacher (Curtis), a guidance counselor (Dickens) and her two kids. Dickens' character will apparently have some kind of "dark side" springing from a troubled past that will come back to haunt her.

Dickens definitely has the good for this kind of role and her presence should convince those who are skeptical a companion series to The Walking Dead is necessary. Production begins in 2015 with Adam Davison directing the pilot.
