Ghost in the Shell Live and in 3-D!
Is there anybody here who hasn't at least heard of Ghost in the Shell? Considered one of the greatest Japanese manga of all-time, it spawned three critically acclaimed anime films, which are also generally regarded as classics. Created by the renowned Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell is a futuristic police actioner about a cyborg cop who is called upon to take down a vicious hacker known as the Puppet Master.
Dreamworks, perhaps sensing a possible new tentpole franchise, has hired Laeta Kalogridis to pen a script for a live action, 3-D big screen adaptation of the revered series. No word as of yet on any possible casting or a release date, but I would expect them to try and fast track this one while the 3-D iron is still hot. Kalogridis's involvement worries me, as he's written some of the worst films in recent memory, namely 2004's Alexander and the impenetrable Pathfinder back in 2007.
With so many manga and anime hitting the big screen in the coming months, I only have two questions:
When am I going to get a live-action adaptation of Ninja Scroll? I'm dying to see who they get to play the snake lady.
And when is my favorite video game/manga of all-time, Project Justice: Rival Schools going to get a movie? Anime or otherwise?
