New trailer for Pixar's 'Monsters University'
The challenge for Pixar in taking on their Monsters Inc. prequel, Monsters University, was to not damage the relationship between Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sulley (John Goodman). The camaraderie between the two workplace buds is a large part of the first film's charm, and showing them as rambunctious fratboys engaged in a Revenge of the Nerds-esque battle for college superiority that could ruin our perception of their future friendship. Fortunately, the trailers that have been released thus far seem to be doing a pretty good job of building on the original's foundation.
Disney has released what is likely the final trailer for the film, and it solidifies the tone as being along the lines of an animated Animal House. We catch the basic set up, which is that Mike and Sulley are roommates at the titular university who immediately don't like one another. It's there that they'll train to scare be big, bad scary monsters, but obviously their approaches are quite different. When they get kicked out of the program, they hook up with a fraternity of social misfits to win the Scare Games and get back in.
Pixar has dreamed up a staggering amount of new creatures to fill up the screen, including the impressively terrifying Dean Hardscrabble, voiced by Helen Mirren. Enrollment in Monsters University begins on June 21st.
