Sure Shots: Amanda Seyfried; Chloe Moretz; Craig Roberts
* Lovelace was one of the films The Weinstein Company paid a hefty price for out of Sundance, largely on the strength of Amanda Seyfried's central performance as the titular porn star. My thoughts on the film weren't exactly positive, but clearly directors Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman have a potential hit on their hands. So much so that they've already started planning their next project, and they're bringing Seyfried back for it. She'll star in The Girl Who Conned the Ivy League, based on a 2009 Rolling Stone article about Esther Reed, a con-woman who assumed a number of fake identities and lied her way into Harvard and Columbia. * Olivier Assayas has quietly been behind some of my favorite films of the last decade. The director of Clean, Summer Hours, Carlos, and Something in the Air (all fantastic, I might add) just saw his next feature Sils Maria snapped up by IFC Films, and now he's adding the talented Chloe Moretz to the cast. Also starring Juliette Binoche and Mia Wasikowska, the story centers on an older actress who becomes the obsession of a younger starlet, who is taking on a role the older actress previously made famous. Binoche worked with Assayas on the story, which he will also write. Binoche is obviously the older thesp, with Wasikowska as her assistant and Moretz as the younger actress. [Deadline]
* Craig Roberts, who some will recognize from Richard Ayoade's Submarine, has joined the cast of the Nicholas Stoller comedy, Townies. Seth Rogen stars as a regular family man who sees his life thrown upside down by a rambunctious fratboy played by Zac Efron. Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Dave Franco, and Rose Byrne co-star. Roberts hasn't quite made a splash here in America yet, despite appearing in Jane Eyre and the Robert De Niro-led thriller, Red Lights.
