Brie Larson Interested in Playing Hillary 'Rodham' Clinton in James Ponsoldt's Biopic

While the GOP stomp their feet like petulant children over NBC and CNN's planned Hillary Clinton documentaries, ironically going on Fox News to accuse the networks of political bias, there is another project in the works that could have a more direct impact on Clinton's favorability rating. The Spectacular Now and Smashed director James Ponsoldt has been putting together Rodham, a Hillary Clinton biopic about her early career and relationship with a young Bill Clinton. A number of actresses have been mentioned for the high-profile role, Carey Mulligan leading a list of contenders that included Jessica Chastain, Reese Witherspoon, Amanda Seyfried, and Scarlett Johansson. Little has been heard since Mulligan turned it down, but now a new possibility with ties to Ponsoldt has emerged.

While doing press for her indie drama Short Term 12, Brie Larson spoke to Up and Comers (via BleedingCool), and revealed that she "would definitely be interested" in playing Clinton. It sounds like Ponsoldt is at least considering her...

Larson: "They’ve sent me the script. I just haven’t been able to read anything lately. I have a stack of scripts and I’m just…maybe, I have a long flight coming up, maybe I can read it then… But yeah, I’m interested."

Many are saying that Larson gives a breakthrough performance in Short Term 12, and she plays an important role in Ponsoldt's The Spectacular Now, due out this weekend. So it wouldn't be a stretch for him to be looking at her for the role, although it's still a little surprising that another favorite of his, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, has yet to be mentioned.

It doesn't sound like any official talks have begun, and more names may emerge over the coming weeks. With the film eying a 2016 release to coincide with Clinton's expected presidential run, you can bet Ponsoldt is going to make sure he explores every option on the table.
