Trailer for 'Mother of George' with 'The Walking Dead' Star Danai Gurira

When Danai Gurira was cast in the sought after role of Michonne in AMC's The Walking Dead, it came as a surprise to some as there seemed to be bigger names vying for it. And that's true, there were bigger names, but those who had seen Gurira in her stunning debut performance in The Visitor (such a slept on film), or in the indie drama Restless City, knew she had the goods. Her newfound fame isn't just a boost for her career, it's likely to put a lot more eyes on Mother of George, a film that earned a great deal of praise at the Sundance Film Festival.

The first trailer for the film has been released, and it looks like a beautifully shot glimpse at a life we don't see depicted very often, and when we do it's in comedies like Coming to America. Reteaming with Restless City director Andrew Dosunmu, Gurira plays a Nigerian-American wife living in Brooklyn with her husband (Isaach De Bankole), and struggling to live up to his lofty expectations and that of his family. The cinematography by Bradford Young is simply gorgeous, which may be why he took home the Sundance Award for it, an honor he shared for his equally-stunning work on Ain't Them Bodies Saints.

Mother of George opens in limited release on September 13th.
