Believe the Impossible in Trailer for Faith-Based Drama, 'Little Boy'

When it comes to cornering the market on the growing faith-based entertainment market, Roma Downey and Mark Burnett have it covered. The duo scored a huge hit with Son of God earlier this year, and they also were behind that miniseries on The Bible that performed so well. Now they're back again with Little Boy, a film meant to inspire the belief that faith can achieve anything.

Starring Emily Watson, Tom Wilkinson, Jakob Salvati, Ali Landry, Ted Levine, Michael Rapaport, Ben Chaplin, and Paul Blart...er, Kevin James (!!!), the uplifting WWII drama centers on a little boy whose only wish is to have his father return from the war. So what do you think happens? No, perhaps the better question is "What do you BELIEVE happens?"

Directed by Alejandro Montverde, Little Boy hits theaters February 27th.

Kevin James Patrols Vegas in First 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2' Trailer

Did you forget that a sequel to Paul Blart: Mall Cop was coming? Or did you intentionally block it from memory? Whatever you think of it, the first film made $183M five years ago, and that's a lot of people paying to watch Kevin James stumble around and fall over over stuff, all while wearing a uniform designed to emphasize his chunkiness. And if you were one of those who liked it then, chances are Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is already on your radar.

The first trailer has arrived and...let's face it, it's exactly what was to be expected. The sequel finds inept security guard Paul Blart attending a security expo in Las Vegas with his daughter, only to stumble upon a major art heist. Somehow the band KISS figures into all this, and of course there's plenty of time for that special brand of Kevin James tomfoolery.

Despite the earlier success was anyone really clamoring for a sequel? And how long until we can get a crossover between Paul Blart and Melissa McCarthy's Tammy? Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 hits theaters April 17th 2015.

Adam Sandler, Josh Gad, and Kevin James to Star in 'Pixels'

About four years ago, Adam Sandler picked up the rights to Patrick Jean's video game-inspired short film, Pixels, with plans of turning it into a family-friendly film. Last year Christopher Columbus was in talks to direct, and now it looks like a recent rewrite of the script has convinced Sandler to go ahead and star in it himself, and he may not be the only one coming aboard.

The Wrap reports that an updated script by Just Go with It writer Tim Dowling is what lured Sandler in to star, with Columbus now confirmed as director. Meanwhile, Kevin James and Josh Gad are in talks to join the film, which is clearly still in the very early stages. Sandler's Just Go with It co-star Jennifer Aniston is being looked at for the female lead but her schedule on the upcoming comedy Mean Moms could prevent it.

The Pixels short film is a lot of fun, and has aliens attacking New York City using 1980s video game characters and levels. It should make for quite the big screen spectacle, which may be why development has taken so long. Dowling is said to have made the concept even broader in scope, and to help out Seth Gordon (The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters) was brought on as an exec-producer.

Check out the short film version of Pixels below.

Unfortunate 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' Sequel Lands Director

Oh Kevin James. Remember a couple of years ago when his movies pulled in mad bank just because he was really fat and kind of an oaf? That schtick hasn't worked out for him so well of late, but in 2009 we were all responsible for Paul Blart: Mall Cop earning $183M worldwide. So we knew a sequel was coming at some point, and now it's found a director.

Andy Fickman, the guy who gave us winners like She's the Man and Parental Guidance, will direct the film nobody really asked for. James will reprise the title, probably girding up his loins to fall flat on his face a lot, and will co-write the script with Nick Bakay aka the cat from Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

Filming is set to begin in April. Excited?

Adam Sandler gets wasted in the first 'Grown Ups 2' trailer

Considering Grown Ups was the last successful live-action hit for Adam Sandler, it only made sense that his first ever sequel would be for Grown Ups 2. Rounding up his buddies Chris Rock, David Spade, and Kevin James (but no Rob Schneider) for what looks like another paid holiday, Sandler has also managed to snag Taylor Lautner for his first major role post-Twilight.

The first trailer for Grown Ups 2 has arrived, and it doesn't appear that much has changed other than the location. Deciding to move his family back to their hometown, Lenny runs into trouble from a gang of rambunctious frat boys led by Lautner. The old guys get put in their place by the young upstarts, who take over their favorite swimming spot and force them into some nude cliff-diving. Andy Samberg turns up in a nice twist on Madison Riley's "car trouble" scene from the first film, while Shaquille O'Neal has a cameo as the largest cop in town. Other than a little deer urine, Sandler and returning director Dennis Dugan are maintaining the same inoffensive humor as before.

Also starring Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Nick Swardson, and Salma Hayek, Grown Ups 2 opens on July 12th.

Trailer Time: 'Hotel Transylvania', starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg

Less than a month after the first trailer for the animated Hotel Transylvania arrived, we're treated to a new domestic one that features a small amount of new footage. It still looks like one of the worst animated offerings this year, both in terms of story and artistic vision. Oh, and Adam Sandler voices one of the characters, along with unfunny Grown Ups buds David Spade and Kevin James. Automatic thumbs down.

Hotel Transylvania has Dracula(Sandler) running a hotel exclusively for classic movie monsters. After inviting a bunch of his monster pals to a weekend celebration of his daughter's 118th birthday, the festivities are spoiled when a regular human(Andy Samberg) turns up and books a room. Cee-Lo Green, Molly Shannon, Selena Gomez, and Steve Buscemi lend their voices to the film. Check out the latest trailer below, and if you dig it then mark September 28th down on your calendar....

Kevin James, Emily Watson to star in WWII set indie, Little Boy

And I thought it was weird when one of my most beloved actresses, Emily Watson, paired up with Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love. Obviously the Oscar nominated actress knocked it out of the park, leading Sandler to his most complete performance ever and giving us the inspiration for the title of our dear blog. But can the Breaking the Waves actress do the same for Kevin James, who only recently was trading barbs with a pack of talking monkeys in Zookeeper?

Variety reports that Watson and James are set to star in Little Boy, an indie film from director Alejandro Monteverde. Monteverde's first film, Bella, was an award winner at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival.  Little Boy is set during WWII, and is the story of an 8 year old boy with developmental problems dealing with his father being shipped off to war. Ben Chaplin and David Henrie co-star.

I hope James doesn't catch whiplash from such a dramatic change of pace. He's never really had his dramatic chops tested, unless you count the heavy dramedy, The Dilemma. He'll lend his voice to an adaptation of Dr. Seuss's The Lorax soon, and also star in the MMA comedy, Here Comes the Boom. Watson's last major US film was the meta comedy, Cold Souls. She'll be seen next in Steven Spielberg's War Horse.

The New Wave: 1/14/11

I love me some Green Hornet. He's not cooler than The Brown Hornet, but it's pretty close. His trek to the big screen, however, was anything but cool. Or smooth. Once starting out as a twinkle in Kevin Smith's eye, then picked up by Stephen Chow(Kung Fu Hustle), eventually landing in the lap of Michel Gondry(Be Kind Rewind), the Seth Rogen/Cameron Diaz starring film has been met with rumors of Sony Pictures not being all that fond of what they were seeing everyday. Somebody must've liked it because it's here now, and ready to kick January box office butt. The guy to watch is Jay Chou as loyal sidekick, Kato. He won't remind anybody of Bruce Lee, but all the best scenes belong to him. My review of The Green Hornet can be read here.

Those expecting the comedy tandem of Vince Vaughn and Kevin James to turn out another knee slapper might want to check their expectations at the door. Universal Pictures has been twisting themselves into knots trying to pitch this is as fun, light hearted Ron Howard buddy comedy, but I think people will be surprised by just how dark a turn Winona Ryder's character takes. See, that's what happens when you get caught in a sticky situation with Channing Tatum. You get all crazy and stuff. My review of The Dilemma can be read right here.
An ensemble comedy/drama set in a poor rundown Florida hospital? If it sounds a little bit like the setup for a TV series, that might be because The Heart Specialist was written and directed by TV veteran Dennis Cooper, who wrote and produced for both Chicago Hope and St. Elsewhere.  The fact that the star-studded film(Ed Asner, Wood Harris, Mya, Zoe Saldana, Brian J. White, Method Man) has basically been sitting on the shelf for the last few years(it was completed back in 2006!!) should have warning bells ringing in your ears.

Trailer Time: The Dilemma, starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James

Universal has released a new trailer for the latest film from Ron Howard, The Dilemma, starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. Well...not exactly new.  The first trailer was pulled after GLAAD(Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) complained about the opening line from the trailer, which goes like this...

“Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars… are gay. I mean, not ‘homosexual’ gay, but, you know, ‘my parents are chaperoning the dance’ gay.”

Yeah.  GLAAD complained, Universal buckled, and now we've got basically the same trailer without that knee slapper of an opener.  Honestly it should've been pulled because it's not very funny, and an indicator of even weaker jokes within.

I understand GLAAD's point, that using the term in such a fashion is a slur and not complaining would be like giving the thumbs up to do it. Personally, I know I use "gay" to describe things all the time. Not terribly politically correct of me, I know. I think more attention is being drawn to the issue by causing such a fuss over a throwaway line in an awful looking comedy.

But as for the film itself, Vince Vaughn and Kevin James are best friends and business partners. Vaughn's character discover that his best friend's wife(played by Winona Ryder) has been cheating, and he must decide whether or not to spill the beans. The Dilemma marks Ron Howard's first comedy since 1999's EdTV.

The Dilemma is due in theaters on January 14th, 2011. Check out the trailer, and let us know: Do you think GLAAD is making too big a deal out of this? Or was Universal wrong in putting the line in the trailer to begin with?
