Taylor Lautner does Parkour in First 'Tracers' Trailer

Just a guess, but you probably forgot all about Tracers, didn't you? Be honest; you forgot about Taylor Lautner, too, right? Unlike his Twilight castmates Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, Lautner hasn't fared so well at taking his career to the next level. His one stab at an action flick, Abduction, was a terrible flop, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of good buzz surrounding Tracers, a film set inside the world of parkour. Parkour? Is it 2004 again and nobody told me?

A scruffy-faced Lautner wall jumps and has hot sex in the first trailer for Tracers, and perhaps somebody should have told director Daniel Benmayor and his producers that nobody turned out to see Brick Mansions. Lautner plays a New York City bike messenger who, after literally running into a sexy stranger (Marie Avgeropoulos), gets swept up in the parkour lifestyle. He'll have to use those skills to kick some butt and get out of debt to an organized crime ring. So it's Premium Rush with 100% more Lautner, and if that sounds appealing then Tracers is for you.

While Tracers has yet to gain a U.S. date, the French love them some parkour (the amazing District B13 was a French movie) and have set it for a February 25th release.

Gerard Butler Leads 'Geostorm'; Taylor Lautner to 'Run the Tide'; James Franco is 'Michael'

* Dean Devilin, a frequent collaborator of Roland Emmerich who helped pen the Stargate screenplay, is set to make his directorial debut with Geostorm. Gerard Butler will topline the sci-fi flick as a stubborn but charming satellite designer who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. A trip into space follows, while on Earth a plot to assassinate the president begins to unfold." Filming is to begin this fall, which will give Butler plenty of time to finish up starring in the Point Break remake. [THR]

* Remember Taylor Lautner? Yeah, he was pretty big once. Now the former Twilight hunk is going the indie route, entering talks to star in Run the Tide. Directed by Soham Mehta with a Rajiv Shah script, the story centers on "a man who kidnaps his younger brother and flees for the California coast when their drug-abusing mother is released from prison determined to rebuild their family. With nothing but the open road ahead of them, the brothers race away from a past they never wanted towards a future that could have been as their mother and her ex-husband follow in close pursuit." Well, it sounds better than Abduction, anyway. [TheWrap]

* Gus van Sant has tapped his protege Justin Kelly to direct Michael, a gay-themed film that will star James Franco as the title figure. But don't expect this to be another gay rights story. Instead, the story is based on the New York Times article, My Ex-Gay Friend, about Michael Glatze, a gay rights activist who suddenly renounced his homosexuality and became an anti-gay crusader. Sounds right up Franco and van Sant's alley. Filming begins this summer. [Deadline]

Adam Sandler gets wasted in the first 'Grown Ups 2' trailer

Considering Grown Ups was the last successful live-action hit for Adam Sandler, it only made sense that his first ever sequel would be for Grown Ups 2. Rounding up his buddies Chris Rock, David Spade, and Kevin James (but no Rob Schneider) for what looks like another paid holiday, Sandler has also managed to snag Taylor Lautner for his first major role post-Twilight.

The first trailer for Grown Ups 2 has arrived, and it doesn't appear that much has changed other than the location. Deciding to move his family back to their hometown, Lenny runs into trouble from a gang of rambunctious frat boys led by Lautner. The old guys get put in their place by the young upstarts, who take over their favorite swimming spot and force them into some nude cliff-diving. Andy Samberg turns up in a nice twist on Madison Riley's "car trouble" scene from the first film, while Shaquille O'Neal has a cameo as the largest cop in town. Other than a little deer urine, Sandler and returning director Dennis Dugan are maintaining the same inoffensive humor as before.

Also starring Maya Rudolph, Maria Bello, Nick Swardson, and Salma Hayek, Grown Ups 2 opens on July 12th.

Taylor Lautner to star in parkour thriller, 'Tracers'

So it looks like the folks at FilmNation still think Taylor Lautner can be a viable action star. Nobody else seems to think so anymore, after the failure that was Abduction, which led to Lautner losing his gig on Stretch Armstrong. But that's all about to change, because Lautner is about to enter the exciting, wall climbing, obstacle leaping world of parkour in a new film.

Lautner will star in Tracers, an action film from director Daniel Benmayor(the upcoming Hitman sequel). Lautner will play a bike messenger(!!!?) named Cam(??), who thinks he's the hottest thing on two wheels. The problem is he's in major debt to a criminal organization, but when he crashes into some sexy chick named Nikki, Cam finds himself sucked into the exciting world of parkour. I'm assuming he uses the cool, but trendy physical discipline to kick some ass and get the money he needs to not get thrown off a balcony or something. To be fair, parkour makes for some awesome movies. Created by David Belle, he would go on to use it in District B13, arguably the best action movie of the last decade.

Do I want to see Lautner attempting parkour, though? Hell no. Lautner does have a pretty extensive background in martial arts, but parkour is a totally different beast. So all we're bound to get are a lot of shots of his naked chest, and tons of cut-away scenes while someone else does all the really intense stuff. Mary Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, producers of the Twilight films, are backing this one, because they realize where their bread is buttered. Overall, this sounds kinda terrible, but it might be comically awful and thus worth keeping an eye on. For a taste of what parkour is, check out the video below....

Video: Academy Awards 'Auto Tune' Musical Segment

Ok, so last night's Academy Awards wasn't exactly a surefire hit. Anne Hathaway was absolutely radiant and jubilant about her role as host. Franco? Eh, he was alright but nothing special. I think some people are being too hard on them, and comparing them to Billy Crystal is simply unfair. You think they were allowed the freedom to say/do what they wanted the way he was? Of course not.

Anyway, one of the funnier segments of the show to me was the musical "auto tune" segment, in particular the "He Doesn't Own a Shirt" bit featuring clips from The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Maybe this will show those artists who actually use this crap exactly why it's so lame.  Enjoy.

Taylor Lautner and Michael Bay team up for new film; Hollywood explodes

This dovetails nicely into a story from a few weeks ago regarding the muscled up boy wonder, Taylor Lautner, and how he could buy a piece of my soul right now he's so rich. In that story it was noted that Michael Bay was seriously pursuing Lautner for a number of projects starting in 2012. The pairing of big money director Bay with the Top 10 highest earning actor was one that could potentially set Hollywood on fire. Somebody better get a fire hose.

Deadline is exclusively reporting that Bay and Lautner recently sent out a script to all the major Hollywood studios, with the end result likely to be an intense bidding war.  Written by Jason Hall(Spread), the film is described as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith meets Wanted", which to me sounds like a movie that should suck some serious ass, but there's no doubt it'd be an instant $100M grosser, possibly much more than that. The Jason Hall script gives me pause because Spread was only 50% of a good flick.

My first immediate thought is that if this succeeds and movie is bought for a pretty penny, expect this to be the first of many such tactics by Bay and Lautner. Second, since this is a "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" thing, I'm already thinking about what young starlet will be featured opposite him.  Expect the usual names to start being bandied about soon, even if the flick isn't going to begin shooting until next year.

And third, the more Taylor Lautner makes news the better I feel. I've come to the realization that just by writing his name in a story bounces our page views up significantly.  So without further ado....

Taylor Lautner is one rich, busy bastard

Taylor Lautner is only 18 years old, and he could already buy and sell me a hundred thousand times over. That's all thanks to him showing off his abs all the friggin' time in those Twilight movies everybody's so in love with. I guess he does look pretty good opposite the ghostly frail Robert Pattinson. Whatever, the fact is he's already got his post-Twilight path lined up, and he's reeling in a pretty penny while he does it.

Deadline reports on Lautner's upcoming non-Twilight flicks in 2011, which he'll squeeze in while also trying to wrap up Breaking Dawn.  They state that Fox 2000 and New Regency have slapped down an 8-figure payday for the young star to headline two of their movies this year, surpassing the $7.5M he recently earned to topbill the awful sounding Stretch Armstrong flick.

The first film, Incarceron, is based on Catherine Fisher's sci-fi novel and features Lautner as a character living "in a futuristic prison society".  His love interest in that film is currently being cast right now, with Jennifer Lawrence, Blake Lively, and Emma Watson as potentials. How cool would that be? Two of the hottest stars of the two biggest young adult film adaptations of all-time pairing up? How can Fox possibly pass that up?

New Regency's film is described by Deadline as "The Bourne Identity for the next generation".  Lautner's action hero cred will be put to the test later this year when Abduction, his first solo starring gig, releases on September 23rd.

Reportedly, Lautner's 2012 is also potentially booked up with some big name producers already looking to lock him down for their big franchise flicks, in particular Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes label who are looking to work with the actor on pretty much anything. There's also a script floating around for an adaptation of R.A. Salvatore's Demon Wars; plus an untitled film from the producers of Hairspray. Let's hope it's not Hairspray 2. I don't want to see the wolfboy dance.

Buck up, Boys! The Twilight national nightmare is nearly over

Summit Entertainment has finally set a release date for the conclusion to the Twilight series. The 2nd half of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will hit theaters on November 16th, 2012. I've already got it marked on my calandar, surrounded by little balloons, wine bottles, and fireworks.

The first half of the Bill Condon directed finale bears it's fangs a year earlier, on November 18th 2011. So we've still got a ways to go until this whole thing can be pushed into the furthest recesses of our minds.

Twilight Kids Get Paid; Harry Potter Kids Get Screwed

How much does it pay to be marginally talented but extremely hot actors starring in one of the world's biggest movie franchises? If you're Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and the ghostly Robert Pattinson, the answer is simple: $25M plus incentives. Guh. The trio are said to be earning that amount for the concluding two-part Breaking Dawn saga, plus 7.5% of the films' final gross. That could be upwards of $40M. That's just sick. That's more than the GNP of some small countries.

On the other hand, the Harry Potter gang are taking one great expecto petronum to the arse. They're getting screwed royally. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the 9th highest grossing film of all-time, making nearly $1B worldwide. So obviously it turned a profit, right? Wrong. At least according to a leaked accounting statement from Warner Brothers, which shows a net loss of $167M. Whatchu talkin' about, Willis??

The statement clearly shows that the cost of marketing and distribution were the causes of the failure, but that doesn't really make sense. It's obviously a ploy by the studio to avoid paying the principle cast their added incentives, which are said to be based on the film's net revenue. D'oh! Seriously. If a billion dollar film can't turn a profit, there would be no movies at all. This shameless tactic by Warner Brothers to avoid paying what's owed is part of the reason why studio execs have a bad reputation.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Maybe it just took me a little longer than most. I'm not always the swiftest on the uptake. Maybe it took me until now to realize that I'm not going to get what I want out of the Twilight franchise. Vampires, werewolves, teen melodrama, all ideas that are firmly in my wheelhouse. Yet Twilight so far has endulged too much in the latter, and not enough of the former. I want big monster battles, vampires and were-dudes clawing and biting eachother with impunity. That's just not what it's about, and I've come to accept it. What Eclipse did finally give me for the first time is a reason to care about Bella(Kristen Stewart) and the odd love triangle she finds herself in with the cold vampire Edward(Robert Pattinson), and the oiled up abs of Jacob Black(Taylor Lautner).

Graduation looms on the horizon for Bella, and with it the uncertainty of her relationship with Edward. He wants to marry her. She wants to get laid, then turned into a vamp. This being Twilight, they aren't hopping into the marital bed anytime soon. Besides, she's still got some leftover feelings for furry hunk, Jacob, who never lets an opportunity to go shirtless pass him by. Edward and Jacob spend a good chunk of time staring daggers at eachother. When not eyeballing eachother, they're cracking jokes at the other's expense. Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg seems to have no problem taking a few jabs at some of Twilight's sillier elements. When poor Bella, forced to camp out in freezing temperatureswith Jacob and Edward watching over her, Jacob offers to warm her up because "I'm hotter than you". And Team Jacob swooned.

It's a familiar setup, only the stakes have been raised with time running out for the indecisive Bella. Edward still doesn't want to turn her into a soulless monster like him. Jacob's persistence in wooing her reaches stalker levels, made creepier by his forever near naked state. I'm still wondering where his jean shorts go when he transforms? Into the same imaginary subspace pocket the Hulk's clothes go, I guess?

The Cullen Clan is forced to work alongside their hated enemies, the Werewolves, in order to protect Bella. Victoria(Bryce Dallas Howard) is back, and this time she's leading an army of powerful newborn vampires in order to get revenge for the death of her lover. This leads to a series of flashbacks amongst the Cullens, providing a much needed origin and depth to the sorely underdeveloped family of vamps. One of my biggest gripes is that I had no real reason to like any of them. They just sortof hung out in their house and looked pale for 2 1/2 hours every year. The standout is Jasper Hale, the frenzied, somewhat crazy member of the clan, who is revealed to have been a Confederate officer in the Civil War. I'll ignore the fact that Jasper develops a southern twang and deep booming bass to his voice from seemingly out of thin air.

The secretive Vulturi take on a larger, more sinister purpose here led by that paragon of evil, Dakota Fanning. They show up basically to set up whatever it is that they're hatching for the next film, and to remind us that they exist. I had totally forgotten.

Kristen Stewart still seems too good for the material presented here. Her peformances have always been a little underplayed, which fits Bella perfectly, who never seems to get riled up over anything unless she's between her two boy toys. She manages to raise the level of Rosenberg's easy script. I still can't say the same for Robert Pattinson, who continues to make even the undead seem completely dead by comparison. He's just never quite on the same page as everybody else around him. Taylor Lautner is quite the opposite, as he steals pretty much every scene not by flexing his pecs but by showing more natural charisma than I ever gave him credit for. Darnit, I guess that makes me Team Jacob, doesn't it? I sure as heck can't figure out why Bella would ever choose Edward. Like, oh my god!

From the boring direction of Catherine Hardwicke, to the hap-hazard pacing of Chris Weitz in New Moon, David Slade is the first director to nail the film's tone absolutely right. He cuts out much of the timewasting melodramatic moments of the first two films, allowing the characters to show their emotions with actions rather than with long diatribes. In fact, the one time scene that really dragged was a painfully bad sequence where Edward awkwardly expresses his love. These scenes are few and far between.

Once the crap really hits the fan, the action flies pretty quickly. The special effects are nothing to write home about. Despite all the creatures and the gloomy setting, Twilight isn't meant to be a visual juggernaut. There's one major fight sequence, and of course it's cool to see werewolves battling against vampires. The wolves themselves don't always look quite right when in action, but when they slow down they're pretty impressive. I was disappointed in the length of the fight itself, and that for such a build-up to this being a great war, the outcome never was in doubt  for a second.

I feel pretty safe in saying that none of these Twilight movies are going to be masterpieces. But they don't really have to be, do they? For someone who has never so much as cracked open one of Stephanie Meyers's novels or knows what in the sam hill a Vulturi is, Twilight is probably pretty confusing. These are movies made solely for the fans, and those fans love them with a passion that I've never seen before. Eclipse is the first time I can count myself as one of those fans. A reluctant one, but a fan nonetheless. This is the best of the series by far, and hopefully the beginning of a trend.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Trailer!

Last month, we got a glimpse at the first full trailer for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the third installment of Summit Entertainment's teen vampire series based off the novels of Stephanie Meyer. Now we're getting a glimpse at the second promo, and I like the look of this one a little bit more. It involves more of the conflict rather than focusing so much on the >yawn< relationship between Bella and Edward.  Then again I was a huge fan of New Moon's trailers, yet the film itself was so boring I thought it was sponsored by Ambien.

Take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think about it!

John Singleton to Direct Taylor Lautner's Next Flick, ABDUCTION

I'm not gonna lie, I'm kinda diggin' Taylor Lautner's non-Twilight stuff. Sure Valetine's Day was awful, but he wasn't all that bad in it, and it got him facetime alongside a number of A-listers; Cancun sounds like a cross between The Ruins and Turistas, and Stretch Armstrong might suck but has franchise potential at least. The muscled out Twilight star recently signed on to star in the thriller, Abduction, described by some as a Jason Bourne-style flick about young man who discovers his own baby picture on a website for missing persons. The only question was who would helm the project.

John Singleton(Boyz in the Hood, Higher Learning) has reportedly signed on to direct the film, based on a script by Shawn Christensen. Singleton's last film was the 2005 hit, Four Brothers, starring Mark Wahlberg and Tyrese Gibson. I'm no fan of Singleton as a director, but he's definitely better with action than anything else, so maybe he'll manage to not screw this one up.
