Agent 13 Character Poster for 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

This latest poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier isn't nearly as cool as the retro one released earlier today, but it's still good to see Agent 13 getting a little love. Emily VanCamp plays Sharon Carter in the film, and she's the niece of Cap's former WWII flame, Peggy Carter. Hopefully we get a scene between Cap and the two Carters since we know Hayley Atwell is reprising her role from the prior movie.

In the comics, Sharon Carter is a crucial figure in Steve Rogers' life, and very important to the Winter Soldier storyline. Between the two Carters and Black Widow, Captain America's love life may be more dangerous than anything a supervillain can conjure up.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4th.

1st official look at 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

Marvel has been steadily teasing Phase Two of late, thanks to the release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One box set, and with Iron Man 3 set to open in just a few short weeks, it's not likely to ease up any time soon. The push continues with the release of the first official image from Captain America: The Winter Soldier as production kicks into high gear.

The accompanying press release gives the clearest look at the plot yet, revealing that Scarlett Johansson's appearance as Black Widow will be closer to a lead than a cameo....

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will pick-up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.

Robert Redford's role as a SHIELD senior officer turns out to be that of Alexander Pierce, who in the comics was Nick Fury's personal aide. Emily VanCamp's role has been confirmed to be that of Agent 13, aka Sharon Carter, the niece of Cap's WWII flame, Peggy Carter. Directed by the Russo Brothers for release on April 4th 2014, Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Toby Jones, Hayley Atwell, Georges St- Pierre, Maximiliano Hernández

Emily VanCamp takes female lead in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

For months, a number of names have been circling the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. That list included Imogen Poots, Jessica Brown Findlay, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Felicity Jones, Teresa Palmer, Alison Brie, and Emilia Clarke, with different ones said to be the frontrunner at different times. Not among those mentioned was Revenge star Emily VanCamp, but it doesn't seem to have hurt her in the least.

VanCamp has taken the female lead in the upcoming superhero flick, starring opposite Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Frank Grillo, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, and Sebastian Stan. VanCamp first broke out on hit show Everwood, but has made few waves on the big screen. This could obviously change that in a major way. The character she'll be playing hasn't been named, but it's expected to be Cap's love interest and fellow agent, Sharon Carter, the niece to his WWII gal, Peggy Carter(Hayley Atwell, who won't be returning).

So that's one Marvel mystery finally resolved. Directed by the Russo Brothers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier arrives on April 4th 2014. [Deadline]
