Katie Holmes to Direct 'All we Had'; Martin Campbell Eyes 'Hunter Killer'

The career comeback by Katie Holmes will now see her moving behind the camera for her directorial debut, All we Had, and it's a project with some solid talent behind it. Josh Boone, who recently helmed The Fault in Our Stars, has adapted Annie Weatherwax's novel which follows "a mother and daughter struggling to stay out of poverty and find an unlikely home amid the quirky residents of small town America.” Holmes will be pulling triple duty on this one as she will also star and produce. [TheWrap]

Either the script for Hunter Killer is extremely good or extremely bad, but for some reason a number of directors have circled the film only to pass on it. Antoine Fuqua, Steven Quayle, Philip Noyce, and McG turned it down before, but now Martin Campbell is giving it a look. Campbell, who directed Casino Royale and the unfortunate Green Lantern (sandwiched by lousy Mel Gibson thriller Edge of Darkness), could direct the film about "a renegade Russian military leader pushing the U.S. to the brink of a nuclear confrontation and shattering a decades-old peace agreement between the two former enemies. Cut off from all outside communication, a submarine commander and an elite Navy special forces unit are all that stand between the Russian assault and all-out war." Eh, we'll see.

Anthony Hopkins joins 'Gotti'; Chris Evans eyes 'The Ten O'Clock People'; McG to direct 'Hunter Killer'

* Now that all of its behind-the-scenes issues are a thing of the past, Joe Johnston's long-gestating Gotti biopic is finally adding to the cast, which currently includes John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston. The latest to sign on is Anthony Hopkins, taking an unspecified role in the Leo Rossi-scripted film about mafia boss John Gotti and his son, who leaves the criminal world behind and seeks redemption. Filming begins this September. [Variety]

* It's Justin Long out, Chris Evans potentially in to star in an adaptation of Stephen King's short story The Ten O'Clock People. Scheduling issues have forced Long to drop out of the film to be directed by Tom Holland (Fright Night) and centering on Brandon Peterson, a Boston man attempting to kick his smoking habit and uncovers a frightening aspect of reality in the process. Rachel Nichols was also set to co-star but it's unclear if she's still attached. [Empire]

* First it was Philip Noyce, then it was Antoine Fuqua, and now it looks like McG will be the next director attempting to direct Hunter Killer. The film is based on Firing Point, the action novel by Don Keith and George Wallace which deals with a submarine captain who teams up with a NAVY Seal to rescue the Russian president. Originally slated for last December, scheduling issues have been a consistent issue, and now it looks like McG may be starting from scratch. Gerard Butler had been in line to star, but he and Fuqua went on to make Olympus Has Fallen together and could be seeking other projects. [Variety]

Antoine Fuqua replaces Philip Noyce as director of Hunter Killer

What's the point of being one of Hollywood's most sought after filmmakers if none of your projects ever gets made? That's what's happening to Antoine Fuqua(Brooklyn's Finest) right now, as everything he puts his name to either sits in limbo or falls apart. The director has no less than six(!!??) films he's atached to already, and yet there's still room for one more. At least this one gives the appearance of actually shooting.

After Philip Noyce(Salt) dropped out of directing Hunter Killer last month, Relativity was left with a void to fill.  The vaguely Clancy-ish sounding film is based on a book by George Wallace, and deals with a submarine captain teaming up with a NAVY Seal to rescue the Russian president. The film already has a release date set for December 21st 2012, so this one is a definite go. Expect casting to begin almost immediately.

As for everything else Fuqua has on his plate? Well, his boxing film with Eminem got dropped by Fox, so that one may not ever happen. That Tupac biopic he's been nursing for what seems like forever has never gained any traction, and it never will until he finds someone to play the slain rapper. Good luck with that. It's been all quiet on the Afterburn front, the action flick he's attached to with Gerard Butler. Nor has there been any movement on his Chinese historical epic(seriously), The Tomb(possibly with Arnold Schwarzenegger), or heist film Storming Las Vegas. And now with Hunter Killer taking up his time don't expect to see or hear much on any of these for quite awhile. [Variety]
