Kristen Stewart Won't Return for 'Snow White and the Huntsman' Sequel; Frank Darabont to Direct

Although there wasn't exactly an audience clamoring for a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, the film made around $400M and that was enough for Universal to get moving on one. With the prior movie getting splashed all over the tabloids because of director Rupert Sanders' affair with Kristen Stewart, word started to spread that neither would be brought back for the sequel and Chris Hemsworth's character would become the focus. And now as a director has come aboard for the film newly titled The Huntsman, those rumors have proven to be true.

According to THR, Frank Darabont has been confirmed as director of The Huntsman, which will see the return of Hemsworth and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen. Darabont had been on a shortlist that included Gavin O'Connor and Andy Muschietti, and this will be his first time behind the camera since 2007's The Mist. He also had a hand in developing the script for Godzilla, and was the original showrunner on AMC's The Walking Dead. He's still probably best known as director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

Stewart is definitely out although the studio had steadfastly denied for months that she was leaving the franchise. There has yet to be any information on why she has left the franchise. Did the studio push her out? Or has she again grown weary of the media firestorm that surrounds major studio tentpoles? She's certainly been focusing her energy in a different direction of late, starring in Olivier Assayas' Clouds of Sils Maria and the GITMO drama, Camp X-Ray, both of which are expected to debut later this year.

Universal expects to release The Huntsman in 2015.

Universal dates 'Fast & Furious' 7' for summer 2014; 'Pitch Perfect' sequel in 2015

Never let it be said that Vin Diesel's Facebook page isn't a reliable source of information. The action star recently posted Universal's plans to kickstart Fast & Furious 7 as soon as this summer, with the hopes of having it ready by the same time next year. Universal took to the floor at CinemaCon and proved Diesel's words to be true, setting the film for July 11th 2014.

The only question left now is what kind of impact this will have on the rest of the cast. We've already seen franchise director Justin Lin step down, only to be replaced by Insidious director James Wan. Dwayne Johnson, who helped carry Fast Five to a $620M haul, has also expressed doubt that he can meet the timetable, as he's set to shoot Brett Ratner's Hercules during that time. At the same time, it makes sense for Universal to want to move things forward, as the franchise has never been stronger than right now.

There was never any doubt there would be more Fast & Furious, it was just a matter of when. On the other hand, sequels to Snow White and the Huntsman and the surprise hit Pitch Perfect were less concrete. Universal has decided to officially move forward with both, aiming to drop them both on us in 2015.  After losing director Rupert Sanders and toying with booting out star Kristen Stewart, she will be back along with Chris Hemsworth, with the story expected to follow his Huntsman character extensively.

We first learned that the studio was planning for more Pitch Perfect late last year, and it's pretty obvious why. The film sung a pretty sweet tune at the box office, bringing in over $110M mostly on word-of-mouth and a smart social marketing campaign. Rebel Wilson is already being sought to return, and Skylar Astin has said he's been spoken to about coming back. That just leaves star Anna Kendrick, but it's doubtful Universal would move forward without her. She's a large part of the reason it was such a huge success, so much so that she just released a music video for "Cups", the main songs she performed in the a capella comedy. You can check that out below.

Kristen Stewart in, Rupert Sanders out for 'Snow White and the Huntsman' sequel

Well I'm glad this whole sordid mess has been figured out. For awhile there it looked as if the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel would be moving forward without its star, Kristen Stewart. With rumors already floating around that it would focus more on Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman character, it certainly didn't help that Stewart found herself wrapped up in romantic entanglements with the director, Rupert Sanders, who happens to be very married. Maybe not much longer, but we'll see.

Universal quickly took a boot to those rumors and said Stewart was still very much in their plans, but it always could have been the infamous "show of support" that precedes a quick firing. No such show of support was given for Sanders, however. Besides, it never really seemed likely he would return just as a means of helping to save his broken marriage. Stewart has managed to conveniently hook back up with Robert Pattinson in time to hype The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn. It's all for show, people.

RadarOnline now has an anonymous source who says Universal is prepared to proceed with the sequel with Stewart on board, but Sanders is a definite bye-bye. Here's the relevant portion....

"The script has already been written and production will begin late next year," a source close to the situation tells Radar. "However, Rupert Sanders definitely won't be a part of the project. Rupert didn't want to be a part of it to begin with because he is desperately still trying to save his marriage. The search is still on for a new director."

The story goes on to say that Stewart is extremely "panicked" over her career after this latest escapade I guess because she doesn't want to be thought of as a trollop or something. She's worried that Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Ashley Greene or getting more and better projects than her, and that she isn't currently attached to anything. Oh? What about Focus with Ben Affleck? And Scott Cooper's Lie Down in Darkness?  Are those not happening? Anyway, I don't think she's got anything to worry about. So the search for a new director is on, and I'm curious if Universal will again seek out a relatively unknown commodity, or go after someone more established. I don't think there's any fear of Stewart hooking up with Steven Spielberg or Terrence Malick.

Kristen Stewart still in 'Snow White and the Huntsman' follow-up plans

Well, we told you not to believe those stories that Universal had dropped Kristen Stewart from their future Snow White and the Huntsman plans, and now we're seeing why. One day after the word broke that the studio was looking at two options for following up the summer hit, with one including a spinoff focusing solely on Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman character, Universal has released a statement to Deadline that denies Stewart is no longer involved. Here's what Universal co-chair Donna Langley had to say....

Langley: “We are extremely proud of 'Snow White And The Huntsman' and we’re currently exploring all options to continue the franchise. Any reports that Kristen Stewart has been dropped are false.”

It was THR that took the Stewart story and ran with it, with many other outlets riding on their coattails. So basically, nothing has changed since yesterday except that Deadline gets another chance to do a little gloating. Universal is still unsure what direction to go in, deciding between a sequel or a spinoff. David Koepp is off the project, whatever form it takes, and Rupert Sanders may still come back to direct.

So after all this drama, are you excited for more Snow White and the Huntsman?

'Snow White and the Huntsman' follow-up to move on without Kristen Stewart?

So what are the chances Kristen Stewart's roll in the hay with director Rupert Sanders just cost her the Snow White and the Huntsman sequel? Eh, probably not that much, but the fact that so many are asking that same question can't really be good for the Stewart camp.

Here's the deal: Deadline is reporting that Universal is continuing to weigh their options on how best to follow-up the summer hit, which grossed just shy of $400M at the box office. Not bad, but hardly gangbusters in this day and age. Currently they're trying to figure out whether to do a straight up sequel, or possibly spin the Huntsman character off into his own solo franchise. That would give Chris Hemsworth yet another franchise to call his own, while Stewart would likely be dropped. It's unclear how Charlize Theron fits into either scenario.  Nothing has been finalized at this point, but Universal knows enough that they've dropped Davod Koepp, who had been hired back in April to start work on a script.  Making it even less likely this is just another shot across Kristen Stewart's bow, we first learned plans of a Huntsman spinoff back in April, so it's possible Universal is just considering what we already knew.

As for Sanders, he's not inked to a deal no matter which direction they choose, but he's still the likely candidate to remain on board. And clearly, Universal has faith in him, as they've just picked up the rights to Dean Unkefor's upcoming novel, 90 Church: The True Story of the Narcotics Squad From Hell, with plans for Sanders to direct. The book follows a team of Federal Bureau of Narcotics agents in NYC who use any means necessary to combat organized crime in the 1960s and 1970s.

So don't listen to those reports that are saying Stewart's already out the door. Nothing's concrete yet, although the writing does appear to be on the wall, doesn't it?

Universal moves ahead with a "Snow White and the Huntsman' sequel

Long before Snow White and the Huntsman opened last week, Universal had been talking up plans for a sequel. It was in July of last year, eleven months before its release, that we heard the first inklings of a follow-up. David Koepp(Men in Black III) was brought on in April to get crackin' on a script, with rumors that the film would follow Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman character. Then a few days before the film hit theaters, Universal got gun shy, and started to walk back the sequel chatter.

A $118M opening weekend cures a lot of ills, though, and now Deadline reports that Universal is back on board and looking to put a sequel on the fast track. All of the principle players, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, and Chris Hemsworth have options for two more movies and are expected to be back. The only variable is Rupert Sanders, who made his directorial debut with the film, as he was the beneficiary of a sweet deal that put him in the driver's seat if he produced a hit. Basically, he doesn't have to come back if he doesn't want to, and since he's red hot right now, he has all the leverage. Chances are he'll return, simply because a sequel would be a guaranteed blockbuster.

I liked Snow White and the Huntsman, but didn't love it. It certainly doesn't scream "sequel" to me, so if it is going to happen let's hope they fix some of the problems with the pace and poorly developed characters next time.

Review: 'Snow White and the Huntsman', starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron

One of the more intriguing races to watch over the past year hasn't involved cars or Olympic athletes. It's been the dueling grudge match between Relativity and Universal in a race to see who could get an adaptation of the fairest fairy tale of all, Snow White, to the silver screen. Interesting, mainly because the films took wildly opposing angles on the Brothers Grimm story, which we all could probably recite in our sleep. Relativity won out with their devilish Mirror Mirror, lifted by a soapy turn from Julia Roberts as the evil queen. Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman is a different beast altogether. While lacking some of the visual pop and punchy attitude of Tarsem Singh's film, first time director Rupert Sanders has decided to delve deep into the Game of Thrones playbook for his version, which should make fans of the hit swords 'n blood HBO series very happy.

Setting the story in such medieval murk is a double edged sword, as it often struggles to find a few moments of levity amidst all the doom and gloom, even if that seriousness is what makes this the Snow White adaptation most will flock to this year. Much of what we already know remains intact, and truth be told, the film suffers most when veering too far away from the fantasy elements. Charlize Theron hams it up as the evil Queen Ravenna, a powerful man-hating shrew who tricks her way into the bed of a mourning King on the ultimate rebound. Married to him within a day, she slays him in bed that night, and not in a good way. We're talking Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct style. Taking control of his kingdom in a flash, her power and beauty are absolute, the latter flawless due to a spell that allows her to stay gorgeous as long as she's the fairest in the land. Kristen Stewart plays the grown up Snow White, the king's daughter whose beauty now threatens to turn Ravenna into the old crone she ought to be. Escaping into the Dark Forests, Snow White is pursued by Ravenna's creepy brother, with whom she shares a rather sickening familiarity.

Enter Chris Hemsworth as Eric the Huntsman, a boisterous, drunken lout with a mysterious past and a ton of old grief weighing heavy on his shoulders. Forced by an impossible offer made by Ravenna, he's convinced to brave the Dark Forest to find Snow White, but is convinced to spare her life and be a reluctant guide to safety. Her true nature becomes apparent to him along the way, although it's clear from the magical forest creatures that guide her every step that Snow White is considerably more than just the future Queen, but a force for life itself.

Sounds a little heavy, doesn't it? Screenwriters Evan Daugherty, John Lee Hancock, and Hossein Amini certainly think so, as there's barely a laugh to be found anywhere. Only in Hemsworth's performance as the Huntsman do we ever get much of a chuckle, with his simple, common bravado overwhelmed by the enormity of his predicament. He's hilariously confused by the arrival of a handful of dwarfs(featuring Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Nick Frost, and more) who not only best him in combat but also appear to be infinitely brighter than him as well. These dwarfs prove to not be much for comic relief, however, and are merely extra foot soldiers in Snow White's fight to reclaim the kingdom. It's a shame to see so many talented actors kind of wasted as background players, and in light of the brilliant all-dwarf casting in Mirror Mirror, it's weirder still to see taller men in such roles.

Stewart has always been a superior talent when free from the Twilight shackles, is quite good here as well when given the opportunity. For much of the film she really doesn't have much to do but look dirty, distressed, and finally concerned. As the people begin to rally around Snow White, their support turns turns to idol worship, and Stewart is quite good at playing the uncomfortable leader, even if she's not quite so believable riding a horse into battle. As effective as Stewart may be, the film is less exciting when Theron is nowhere to be found. Her insecure, poisonous rantings as Ravenna are a joy to behold, and those scenes also hold many of the film's best special effects. Her famous mirror, for instance, isn't just a random household fixture, and when called upon oozes a dark liquid metal that takes the shape of an ominous oracle. Shards of obsidian coalesce into a razor edged army of foot soldiers, and the make up folks do some truly ingenious work with Theron as she shifts ages at a moment's notice.

Sanders, who began his career making TV commercials, has a knack for making a quick visual impact, evidenced by the sudden emergence of giant ogre-type creatures and Ravenna's flash transformations into a flock of ravens. On the whole, he shows an ability for fantastical spectacle, like during an intoxicating, vibrant stroll through a forest full of fairies and spirited woodland animals. The battle scenes aren't particularly inventive, however, and too often resemble a poor man's Lord of the Rings.

The biggest problem is that the script is all over the map on setting a tone. Does it want to be a grim Middle Ages piece, or a dazzling fairy tale adventure? Some would ask why it can't be a combination of the two, and that's a valid question.  The answer is that no matter what, those elements must make for a cohesive whole, even if one is done better than the other. That doesn't happen here, and when you throw in a ton of characters and a stagnant love triangle involving Prince William(Sam Claflin), it's just too much to overcome.

Snow White and the Huntsman isn't a bad film by any means. It has some great performances, two strong female characters, and in its way better sticks to what the Brothers Grimm had intended when they first retold their German myth. If they were alive today, this would probably be their favorite movie of the summer.  For everyone else, Snow White and the Huntsman probably isn't going to be the fairest of all, but a gorgeous runner-up.

Snow White is "life itself" in the latest 'Snow White and the Huntsman' clip

"You have eyes, Huntsman, but you do not see".  Wow, that's some deep sh*t coming from a dwarf. Universal has been bombing us with clips for Snow White and the Huntsman lately, and I can only think it's to make sure we know that it's nothing like Mirror Mirror was. One aspect of the dark fairy tale adaptation that has remained elusive are the dwarves, played by Toby Jones, Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Bob Hoskins, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, and Johnny Harris.

In this clip, Snow White(Kristen Stewart) is revealed to be "The One" when a magical white deer thing blesses her while the dwarves watch and the Huntsman(Chris Hemsworth) stands dumbfounded. Presumably, The One is whoever is found to be powerful enough to defeat the evil Queen(Charlize Theron). Or, as one dwarf calls her, Snow White is "life itself". Whatever that means.

Snow White and the Huntsman rolls into theaters on June 1st....[Comingsoon]

Two new clips from 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

This might sound crazy for those who actually sat through Tarsem Singh's goofy Mirror Mirror, but it may be the Snow White adaptation that sticks closest to the source material. Ruper Sanders' Snow White and the Huntsman features giant ogres, massive battles featuring armor clad warriors, and a version of the heroine who looks like she would be more comfortable hanging out with Hobbits than a bunch of dwarves.

Two new clips have been released for the film ahead of its debut on June 1st, and both show off the impressive special effects work at play. The first features Snow White(Kristen Stewart) confronting that giant forest creature we've seen in some of the promo images. The other looks like it may from the final battle, as Snow White, the Huntsman(Chris Hemsworth), and the Prince(Sam Claflin) confront Queen Ravenna(Charlize Theron), but are slowed down by her guards, made up of chunks of glass. Check out those two clips below....[Collider/MTV]

David Koepp in talks to script 'Snow White and the Huntsman' sequel

You can't really blame Universal for wanting to get a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman rolling as soon as possible. If the plan really is to focus on Chris Hemsworth's huntsman character for any future films, then they're going to want to take advantage of the buzz he'll gain after The Avengers. Plus, it's a good way to keep director Rupert Sanders in the fold, because if the film turns out to be a hit as many expect, he's going to be very much in demand.

Deadline reports that superstar scribe, David Koepp, has entered talks to write the sequel to the action heavy fairy tale adaptation. Koepp, who recently co-wrote Men in Black III and will direct Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush, is known for jumping aboard well established franchises, so this should be a walk in the park for him. He's also one of the folks who helped jumpstart Kristen Stewart's career, having written both Panic Room and Zathura.

This is a pretty bold move by Universal, showing they've got a ton of confidence in Snow White and the Huntsman doing well. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 1st 2012.

'Snow White and the Huntsman' sequels could follow Chris Hemsworth's character?

I like Ron Meyer, the top dog over at Universal. For a studio suit he seems to be a pretty straight shooter. Like last year when he said that his studio and Hollywood make "a lot of shitty movies". Can't argue with that. While talking to THR recently, he clarified it by saying that Universal also makes some good ones. Ok, no biggie. A soft backpedal, but not too bad. What is more interesting and noteworthy is what he has to say about Universal's big summer film, Snow White and the Huntsman.

While discussing Universal's need to create their own franchises, which they've done to remarkable success with Fast and the Furious and the Jason Bourne movies, he mentioned the possibility of doing more movies spinning off from Snow White and the Huntsman, likely centering on the character played by Chris Hemsworth.

"Meyer said that while the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman doesn’t appear to lend itself to a sequel, Universal thinks it can do more movies based on the character of the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) if it is successful."

Just how successful it will be has to be up in the air after the rather lackluster performance by Mirror Mirror, another Snow White adaptation which featured Julia Roberts as the evil queen. Huntsman has considerably better buzz, though, drawing comparisons to the Lord of the Rings for its darker tone and. Plus, it has the star power of Kristen Stewart behind it, which should automatically bring in a certain segment of fans.

Snow White and the Huntsman opens on June 1st.

Trailer Time: 'Snow White and the Huntsman', starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth

"Let them come!" As I'm flying out the door to see The Hunger Games, Universal has decided to slow me down with the second impressive trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman.Charlize Thereon continues to look like the best part of the film, which takes the classic Snow White story and gives it a Lord of the Rings style twist.  Theron is going to have one hell of a year playing villains, and with her icy cold beauty she's absolutely perfect for it.

Finally we get a chance to hear Kristen Stewart speak, even if it's only a little bit. As good as the first trailer was, this one is just as good, still heavy on the action but giving us a tighter look at the plot.  Snow White and the Huntsman opens on June 1st. Check out the new trailer below....

A mysterious creature revealed in new images from 'Snow White and the Huntsman'

The prevailing idea in the wake of trailers and images from Snow White and the Huntsman is that it sorta looks like The Lord of the Rings, with epic sword battles, sorcery, and knights in shining armor. Those thoughts aren't going to change with the latest handful of images released on the film's Facebook page, one of which features Snow White(Kristen Stewart) staring down a shadowy creature that looks like a giant orc.

Look closely and it doesn't appear that Snow White is all too concerned being close enough to smell what the monster had for breakfast, so I'm assuming it's an ally of some sort. In the other two shots, Chris Hemsworth proves he won't be doing much smiling, playing the titular huntsman who defies orders from the evil queen(Charlize Theron) to kill the girl, instead choosing to teach her how to fight.

All in all, this looks to be the Snow White film to beat this year(sorry Mirror Mirror!), so expect it to make a big splash on June 1st!

All eight dwarves revealed in new 'Snow White and the Huntsman' image

While we've caught a glimpse of them in the background of some posters, the eight dwarves(yes eight!!) of Snow White and the Huntsman have remained mostly in shadow. A funny decision, considering their casting was probably the most interesting of the troubled process. Remember when Tom Hardy was going to play the Huntsman? Ahhhhhh memories. But now we have our first real look at nearly all of the little people, who are just dying to be midget tossed by Chris Hemsworth, I'm sure.  Ian McShane, Eddie Izzard, Bob Hoskins, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, and Johnny Harris(who replaced Stephen Graham a few months ago) make them up.

With Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, and Kristen Stewart hogging much of the spotlight, it's easy to forget that the entire cast is considerably deeper than what Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror has to offer. Snow White and the Huntsman is set to open on June 1st. [Facebook]

Trailer Time: 'Snow White and the Huntsman', starring Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron

From it's armored knights, to it's cloudy darkened skies and fantastical creatures, Snow White and the Huntsman appears to be the Snow White film to beat this year and a damn sight better than Mirror Mirror. Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film seems to have embraced the most chilling aspects of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, with the evil queen(Charlize Theron) desiring to consume the heart of Snow White(Kristen Stewart) to attain her beauty and also immortality. Chris Hemsworth plays the titular Huntsman, who refuses to do the queen's bidding, instead training Snow White to fight like a warrior and defend herself.

The latest trailer for Snow White and the Huntsman is shorter, basically a stripped down version of the one we saw a few weeks ago, but there are still a few new scenes to be found. With it's Lord of the Rings style action, and Stewart drawing in the Twilight crowd so they can watch her make out with Thor, I have a feeling this might be the biggest hit of the summer, and I'm including The Avengers in that calculation. There's a ceiling on the appeal for a superhero movie like that, which isn't present for a film like Snow White and the Huntsman.

We'll find out when the film drops on June 1st, but for now check out the new trailer....

The seven dwarves revealed in these Snow White and the Huntsman character posters

When the people behind Snow White and the Huntsman first started talking up the film, they began by saying the aim was for a Lord of the Rings type experience, both visually and in scope. It's the sort of comment that I brush aside pretty easily. Everybody says stuff like that, because who wouldn't want to be mentioned in the same breath as probably the greatest fantasy series of all time? And then yesterday we got our first real look at what 'Huntsman' was bringing to the table and it looks just like those Peter Jackson classics, with broad epic action, fantastic creatures and fierce warriors. This is not your daddy's Snow White.

And now as the marketing heats up even more, Universal has cranked out four new character posters, one of which gives us our first real glimpse at the seven dwarves.

Kristen Stewart stars as Snow White, with Chris Hemsworth as the huntsman who trains her to fight against her mother, the Evil Queen(Charlize Theron). Sam Claflin, Sam Spruell, Eddie Marsan, Toby Jones, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Izzard, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Johnny Harris, and Ian McShane co-star. I'm pretty hyped for this one, but we've got to wait until next summer on June 1st.

Trailer Time: Snow White and the Huntsman, starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth

Wow. Ok, so I'm firmly back in the Snow White and the Huntsman camp. The first trailer for the flick has been released and it's as bad ass as I thought, with a look similar to the Lord of the Rings. Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film takes a serious, action heavy approach to the fairy tale, featuring Kristen Stewart as Snow White, trained to fight by the huntsman(Chris Hemsworth) who had been sent to kill her. Charlize Theron appears to be a perfect fit as the vainglorious queen, and the scene of her talking to her magic mirror is beautiful. My only complaint? We didn't see nearly enough of the dwarves, nor do we really get a chance to hear anything from Stewart. This trailer is clearly about showing off the impressive visuals and giving us a glimpse at Theron, who I think is going to be the show stealer.

Snow White and the Huntsman is expected to land on June 1st 2012. Check out the trailer below...

1st look at the cast of Snow White and the Huntsman

Clearly, Snow White and the Huntsman isn't going to remind anybody of the classic fairy tale. That was pretty obvious from the start, with the plot diverging wildly from the source material, allowing for the Huntsman(Chris Hemsworth) to defy the Evil Queen(Charlize Theron) and not kill off Snow White(Kristen Stewart) as commanded. Even by comparison to Tarsem Singh's competing film(first image here), that's a pretty big leap. Judging by the new images of the cast, Snow White and the Huntsman is going to be less Disney and more Lord of the Rings.

The below pics feature most of the principle cast, all armored up and ready to crack a few heads. I'm loving that pic of Stewart, as it's nice to see her ready to fight rather than sitting around while others fight over her. Charlize Theron looks deliciously evil and sexy at the same time. The ladies will no doubt dig Hemsworth grizzled, rugged appearance. And even Sam Claflin is pretty much unrecognizable from how he looked in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Now all we need is a shot of the dwarves, played by Toby Jones, Stephen Graham, Nick Frost, Ian McShane, Ray Winstone, Bob Hoskins, and Eddie Marsan.

Rupert Sanders directed the film, due out on June 1st 2012.

Nick Frost to play the seventh dwarf in Snow White and the Huntsman

Ok, that seals it. I'm now Team Snow White and the Huntsman. Tarsem Singh is shooting The Brothers Grimm: Snow White film right now with Julia Roberts leading that one, but I gotta give it up to Universal and the handling of their version of the fairy tale. They made a shrewd move in letting their film release a few months later, giving them time to round up a far superior cast from top to bottom.  The final piece of the puzzle? Nick Frost.

Variety reports that the Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star will play the seventh and final dwarf in the film. He appears to be replacing Eddie Izzard, who is no longer mentioned as part of the cast.  He'll be joining Chris Hemsworth as the titular huntsman, Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Lily Cole, Sam Spruell, Sam Clafin, and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. Toby Jones, Bob Hoskins, Ian McShane, Eddie Marsan, Ray Winstone, and Stephen Graham round out the rest of the dwarves. Rupert Sanders is directing, with a release date of June 1st 2012 set in place.

Nick Frost will be seen next in the alien invasion film, Attack the Block, which I highly recommend you seek out. He'll also be featured later this year as one of the voices in The Adventures of Tintin.
