James Marsden and Karl Urban keep a Dangerous Secret in Trailer for 'The Loft'

If it seems that we've been talking about The Loft forever that's because we have. The oft-delayed thriller, directed by Erik Van Looy as a remake of his own Belgian film, has been getting kicked around the schedule and between studios for a couple of years, but now it's suddenly on the verge of release so we've got a brand new trailer for it.

Starring Wentworth Miller, Karl Urban, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eric Stonestreet, and James Marsden, this skeezy flick follows a group of douchey friends who purchase a penthouse in the city to hide their extramarital affairs. When a woman turns up dead in their loft, it isn't long before the guys start turning on one another. This one has never looked that good despite all of the talent involved, but as a guilty pleasure it may be worth our time.

Head up to The Loft when it opens on January 23rd 2015.

New Trailer for 'The Loft' starring James Marsden, Karl Urban, and Matthias Schoenaerts

There has been a lot of conversation lately about seemingly great movies that for one reason or another have been sitting on the shelf. Whether true or not it always throws the quality of the film into question because, obviously, if it was great a distributor would be twisting themselves into knots to get it out at the best possible moment. Right? In the case of The Loft, a thriller which has been bouncing between studios and juggling release dates for more than two years, does all the activity indicate some kind of promise in the material?

Directed by Erik Van Looy and based on the 2008 Brazilian film which he directed, The Loft has a cast worth getting excited about. James Marsden, Karl Urban, Matthias Schoenaerts, Wentworth Miller, Isabel Lucas, Eric Stonestreet, and Rhona Mitra star in a film that sounds like Very Bad Things kicked up a notch. It centers on five dudes who own a "fuck pad" where they can take their extramarital affairs, but when a dead body turns up it that kinda puts a damper on their horn-dogging. The guys start turning on one another, clues are being scrawled in blood, and basically this looks like the kind of low-rent thriller you find on Cinemax at 1am, but with a cast like that there's potential for a guilty pleasure.

We'll see if The Loft can hit its new January 23rd 2015 release date, or if Open Road Films backs down.

Extramarital affairs go violently south in the trailer for 'The Loft'

Remember when it was revealed that ex-NYC mayor and 9/11 coattail hangar Rudy Giuliani had his own private sex loft where he'd meet his mistresses? I think it was in one of the doomed WTC buildings or something. Well, take that idea and expand it a little bit and you've kinda got the set up for The Loft, one of those weird psycho-thrillers that was originally an even weirder foreign psycho-thriller.

In this case, it's the original film's director, Erik Van Looy, who is remaking it for our viewing pleasure. He's brought an interesting cast along with him, Karl Urban, James Marsden, Eric Stonestreet(the fat gay guy from Modern Family??), Matthias Schoenaerts(Bullhead), and Wentworth Miller starring as five married buddies who share a private loft(aka the "fuck pad") where they can bring their mistresses. Things go south when a dead body turns up, and shit starts to get Very Bad Things in a hurry.

While the production values seem kinda low, these are the kinds of flicks I really dig into, with a mystery surrounding a bunch of desperate people violently on the brink. Yeah, sign me up for this one. Unfortunately, there's no distribution deal in place, so don't be surprised if it winds up going straight-to-DVD. If it does, we'll let you know. Check out the trailer below, but you might want to watch it at home rather than work....

Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth in talks for Park Chan-Wook's 'Stoker'

As if the prospect of Park Chan-Wook(The Vengeance Trilogy, Thirst) making his English-language directorial debut wasn't enticing enough, the idea that he could be working with two of the best performers in the country only makes it even more promising.  The LA Times is reporting that Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth are both in talks to join Stoker, which as previously noted is about a teenager dealing with the arrival of a mysterious uncle to spend time with his family.  I love how vague and ominous the plot sounds, which I'm sure is completely intentional.

The idea and script were hammered out by Prison Break's Wentworth Miller, with Mia Wasikowska already locked in as the teenager. Firth will likely play the creepy uncle, while Kidman will be Wasikowska's mother.

That's a pretty powerful threesome. Both Kidman and Firth will be potential Oscar winners by the time this movie ever gets off the ground. Kidman is up for Best Actress for her role in Rabbit Hole, while Firth is the odds on favorite to take home the Best Actor gold for The King's Speech.

One of the best things about Korean film is their unpredictability. You never know what direction they're going to take. Part of that is a cultural divide, but I think moreso they have a creative freedom we don't often see here anymore. I hope Park Chan-Wook can maintain that level of freedom while still working on what's quickly becoming a high profile film.

Resident Evil: Afterlife teaser trailer!

In case you don't notice by all the miscellaneous objects flying at your face, the first teaser trailer for Resident Evil: Afterlife makes sure you know that it was “Filmed with the James Cameron/Vincent Pace Fusion Camera System!!". Ok, I get it! So this better look friggin' awesome, guys!

For real though, this is a pretty sweet trailer, with more of a Matrixy look and feel than the somewhat dusty, bland looking last couple of films. Still, it's Resident Evil so I'm highly suspicious of it. At least it looks like they might've gotten the 3-D right. Can't say the same about Clash of the Titans....

Check out the trailer, followed by a quick synopsis.

SYNOPSIS: In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead leads them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

Resident Evil: Afterlife stars Milla Jojovich, Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller and is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. It's set to be released on September 10, 2010.

1st Look at RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE!

Y'know, I'm none too excited about...what is this..the fourth film in the Resident Evil series? The first one was ok, but honestly it's gotten a little too far out for me now. If it was more like the video game, with a bunch of folks stuck in towns overrun by mutant zombies, I'd  be all over it. With that said, Screengems released the first set of photos(via Myspace) from that name stealer Paul W. S. Anderson, who returns as writer, director, and producer. Of course the smokin' hot Milla Jojovich returns to be overshadowed by my #1 draft pick Ali Larter. Prison Break's Wentworth Miller is also now on board as Chris Redfield, brother to Larter's Claire Redfield character.

Take a gander at the photos below and let us know what you think!

Resident Evil: Afterlife is due to be released on September 10th, 2010.
