Depp Arms Up to Play Pancho Villa
A story about a Mexican revolutionary...directed by a Serbian....and starring a dude born in Kentucky. Ok. Johnny Depp is in talks to star as Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa in the film, Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers. Emir Kusturica is set to helm the project. The two previously worked together in 1993's Arizona Dream.
According to Variety, the film is based on the biographical novel The Friends of Pancho Villa, "in which author James Carlos Blake recounts how Villa and his compadres had a great time fighting and robbing the rich, but also dancing, partying and making love."
The film will be Spanish language, and will be shot mostly in Mexico where Villa is considered hero. Salma Hayek is also in negotiations to co-star, I'm guessing as the chick with six digits.
Seriously, they couldn't find anybody else to play this part? Somebody with an ounce of Mexian blood, not this guy who's part German and Irish? I'm sure Depp will be fine in the part, but it always bothers me when accuracy is sacrificed for a bit more star power.
