Looks like Universal is tryin' to put the band back together. Universal is set to reunite the original cast from the first three American Pie films for a proposed American Pie 4, rumored to be titled American Reunion. The story could reportedly revolve around their 10 year high school reunion from East Great Falls.
Harold and Kumar writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are on board both to write and direct the project, which sorta threw the production of A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas into question. Now RiskyBusiness is reporting that newcomer Todd Strauss Schulson will be behind the director's chair for the smoker comedy. As reported a few days ago, Kal Penn is back on board for that one, on loan from the Obama administration from which he's been working for the past year.
After reinvigorating the sex comedy genre back in 1999 with American Pie, 2001's American Pie 2, and concluding with 2003's American Wedding, the franchise has languished in straight-to-DVD land via the American Pie Presents label. The series was a launching pad for a number of stars. If the reunion does indeed take place it could feature Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Seann William Scott, Chris Klein, Tara Reid, Mena Suvari, Shannon Elizabeth, and others. So far none of the cast has confirmed their involvement, although rumors are that many of them are interested in returning.
