Director Barry Sonnenfeld seems to be trying to put to rest any rumors in regards to Men in Black 3. For months speculation has been that Tommy Lee Jones would not be reprising his role as Agent K, instead Josh Brolin would be filling in as a younger version. Will Smith's participation has been less cloudy, as he's been expected to return but nothing signed as of yet.
Talking with Showbiz411, Sonnenfeld broke that both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have officially signed on, and that the film will be shot in 3-D. I know you probably just peed on yourself a little bit you're so shocked. Yes, it will be in 3-D. Big whoop.
No clue what this does to the whole Josh Brolin scenario. There's still a chance that the agents will be travelling back in time and will run into the younger Agent K at some point, but script details are a little hard to come by since....well, there's no script yet.
With Spider-Man no longer Sony's clearcut cashcow, I'm not surprised they'd do whatever it took to get Jones back on board and MIB 3 on the fast track. They're in desperate need of a lynchpin franchise to rally around. I have my doubts whether an aged sci-fi comedy like MIB is the answer, but nobody's ever made any money betting against Will Smith so we'll just have to wait and see.
