Ask and ye shall receive and all that jazz. Earlier today the internet world was abuzz with news of Quentin Tarantino's possible next film, a spaghetti western called The Angel, The Bad, and The Wise. This all was revealed courtesy of the loose lips of Italian star, Franco Nero, who also revealed that as many as 15 people were already on board. Those names included Treat Williams and Keith Carradine. Our story ended with a desperate plea for more info. Now comes an update courtesy of Mr. Beaks over at Aint It Cool News, who adds some much appreciated detail.
Basically he confirms the spaghetti western news, which already has me grinning like a dork while I type this. He also notes that the title, which didn't really seem to make much sense even if it's a Sergio Leone homage, is completely wrong.
Here's the kicker: Beaks says that Christoph Waltz, who rose to such prominence thanks to Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, will have one of the starring roles in the film. Beaks can't confirm the presence of Nero, Williams, or Carradine, but that doesn't mean much since it was Nero who broke the story to begin with. I'm going to assume he's in and knows what he's talking about.
The plan is for the film to shoot in Italy and Spain later this year. I'd love to see Tarantino do a "remake" of 1966's Django, the spaghetti western which basically launched Nero's career. The ear cutting scene from Reservoir Dogs was inspired by the film, but I expect that Tarantino will do something that honors the old genre films and yet is completely new. It's what he does best.
