Leonardo Dicaprio interested in Todd Field's western, The Creed of Violence?

If it feels like we haven't seen anything from Todd Field lately, it's because we haven't. It's been five years since 2006's suburban malaise drama, Little Children, which earned three Oscar nominations including one for Field's adapted screenplay. Ever since it's been pretty quiet, with him struggling to put together an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. Ridley Scott had said it'd be impossible to shoot, and he apparently was right. But that wasn't all Field had on his plate, as another one of his seemingly languishing projects has just gotten an unexpected boost with one of today's most bankable stars has shown interest.

The LA Times notes that Leonardo DiCaprio has shown some interest in The Creed of Violence, a western-style story based on Boston Teran's 2010 novel. Field has been developing it for a few years with very little movement, but obviously snagging someone like DiCaprio would get any studio fasttracking it in a heartbeat. He's one of the few actors that can get pretty much anything he wants greenlit. 

The Creed of Violence takes place in 1910 during the Mexican Revolution, and follows a criminal trying to smuggle weapons into Mexico to aid in the fighting, but gets caught by a government agent who shares a secret past with him. 

DiCaprio's next flick is going to be Quentin Tarantino's spaghetti western, Django Unchained, so it seems as if he's taken a liking to the genre. Maybe he'll come up with one where he gets to play the mysterious, loner gunslinger in the vein of John Wayne? That would be pretty cool, actually.
