Sure Shots: Mark Wahlberg; Stoker; Eddie Murphy to voice Hong Kong Phooey

* What's up with Mark Wahlberg and his kindred spirit, David O. Russell? They seem to be passing eachother by rather than finding time to hang out lately. Uncharted crashed and burned, and Wahlberg dropped out of Russell's The Silver Linings Playbook just last week. Now Wahlberg is set to star in the action comedy, 2 Guns, a film which just a few months ago had Russell writing and directing. Only now Russell is out. Vince Vaughn, who was also set to star, has also left the project. Based on a  script by Blake Masters, the story is of a DEA agent and an ex-Navy officer investigating eachother as they steal mob money. [Deadline]

* I'm hoping things will turn out differently this time, but I tend to hate any film with Dermot Mulroney(The Wedding Date) in it. The guy is cinematic poison to me. So that doesn't bode well for Stoker, the English-language debut from South Korean director, Park Chan-Wook(Oldboy). The film is of a teenage girl named India(Mia Wasikowska), who sees strange occurrances coinciding with the arrival of her mysterious uncle(Matthew Goode) not long after her father's(Mulroney) death. Nicole Kidman, Jacki Weaver, Lucas Till, and Alden Ehrenreich also star.

* And you thought Eddie Murphy was making a comeback!? Dreamgirls was a long time ago, folks. And while Tower Heist seems cool, it's not going to bring him back to any sort of relevance. Nor will lending his voice to a live action/animated film centered around 1970s goofball cartoon, Hong Kong Phooey, but that's what he's gonna do anyway. For those who might be too young to know, HKP was a Hanna Barbara cartoon about a canine janitor, who dives into a desk and emerges a mostly bumbling super martial artist whenever trouble lurks. I loved it, to be perfectly honest I would be excited if it wasn't for the rest of the people involved. The script comes from three writers whose most striking credit was the dreadful Space Chimps. The director is Alex Zamm, and his presence alone might destine HKP to the DVD bins. He's directed, get this, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2; Inspector Gadget 2; Dr. Doolittle: Million Dollar Mutts; and the awful Carrot Top film Chairman of the Board. This is who Eddie Murphy has jumped into bed with.
