Trailer Time: 'J. Edgar' starring Leonardo DiCaprio

(Seriously, who looked at this guy and said, "Leo would be perfect!")

He is one of the most influential men of the 20th century, whether that is a good or bad thing really depends on who you ask. J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI from before it's inception until his death in 1972, lead a life devoted to justice...unfortunately it was usually his idea of justice and as the year's went on the deeds, it is rumored, became worse. From illegal wiretaping to planting evidence Hoover seemed to have a need of counteracting all his earlier merits. Now, when you spend your life compiling the closeted skeletons of the nation's most powerful people you should probably make sure your's is pretty empty. Rumors of Hoover's homosexuality began in the mid-40's and are still active today (Hell, even The Naked Gun had a gag on Hoover's sexuality).

Sorry for the history lesson, but I thought it may help as a precursor to the trailer which was just released. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer, explores the title character's methods, secrets, scandals, and life. Though...judging from the trailer it seems to be mostly about his scandals. I really hope they at least try to explore his rise and what made him the most powerful (if knowledge is power) man in the country for a very long time. Check it out for yourself...maybe I'm reading too far into it.

Looks like Hollywood hasn't forgotten that whole McCarthy-ism, blacklisting thing. 60 years ago or not, when you villian-ize, intimidate, and ruin the careers of many people in the film industry you kind have to expect your biopic to not portray you in the best light.

Thanks to /film for the heads up!
