I don't know what Harmoney Korine(Mister Lonely) is trying to do with Spring Breakers, or better yet who he's trying to appeal to, but he's got my interest piqued. Already known for his rather eccentric films(Trash Humpers is just weird), he's put together an astounding young cast of actresses you'd never expect to see in one of his projects. Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, Rachel Korine are confirmed, with Emma Roberts sadly having dropped out a few weeks ago. If you didn't know who was directing, you'd probably think this the perfect cast for some lousy ABC Family original movie. Well, you'd almost be right.
Ashley Benson, star of that terrible network's most popular show, Pretty Little Liars,is the latest to join the cast. She'll play one of four college girls who make the ill-fated decision to rob a fast food joint in order to pay for their annual vacation, only to get caught and thrown in jail. It's then that they're bailed out by a rapper/drug dealer played by James Franco. Seriously. He convinces them to help kill off one of his rivals.
Roberts' role has yet to be filled, so there's still a bit more casting to take care of before shooting starts next month. A few years ago I'd be screaming for Alexis Bledel to be the fourth, but now I'm sorta lost. Which squeaky clean actress would you want to see get corrupted in Korine's film? [Deadline]
