John Hurt hops on the 'Snow Piercer' train for Bong Joon-Ho

As I wind down from my first partial day here at Sundance(news will be scarce for a few days, sorry), there are still a couple of tidbits that managed to catch my attention while dashing from shuttle to shuttle. For instance, a new addition to Bong Joon-Ho's multi-ethnic science fiction flick, Snow Piercer. 72-year old John Hurt, just coming off an appearance in Melancholia for Lars von Trier, revealed he's the latest to join.

Hurt's role is unclear, but does it really matter? The amount of talent Joon-Ho is putting together for his English language debut is out of this world. Song Kang-Ho, Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, and Jamie Bell are already attached. With a cast like that does it even matter what the film's about?

Fortunately it's a damn exciting story, based on the awesome French graphic novel, La Transperceneige, about the last human survivors of a destroyed earth, traveling on a train with dwindling supplies and no clear destination. Can you guess what happens? Battle royal, ya'll! Yeah, everything goes to crap when people stop being polite and start getting savage.

Aside from guesting in Melancholia, Hurt was fantastic in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. He doesn't need a lot of screen time to make an impact, and considering the large ensemble Snow Piercer will likely have, he'll probably need to do the same again.
