New photos from 'The Avengers'; Kevin Feige talks potential villains

The latest issue of Empire Magazine has a handful of new images from The Avengers, the Joss Whedon directed superhero team-up featuring the likes of Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, and Thor. The only one even a little bit exciting is the one featuring Black Widow(Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye(Jeremy Renner) sharing a quiet moment. Could there be love in the air? Or are they possibly plotting something?

What's more interesting is what Marvel prez, Kevin Feige had to say about who exactly the team would be facing. Who could possibly be powerful enough to bring these heroes together? Popular opinion, along with some circumstantial evidence, has pointed towards the Skrulls, a war mongering alien race with the ability to shape shift. If it's them, Feige is being awfully tight-lipped about it....

"Who said they were aliens?" he teases. Beings from the Nine Realms, then, ventures Empire? "Closer...It's not Skrulls, I've been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we're not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that."

The "nine realms' would be the worlds that comprise Asgard, the home of Thor and his evil brother, Loki(Tom Hiddleston). We already know Loki will be involved in some way, so the likelihood he'll be pairing up with another major heel to invade the earth with frost giants or something is even greater. I stick by my original theory that Thanos, the death obsessed immortal and wielder of the Infinity Gauntlet, will be the primary threat.

We'll find out for sure when The Avengers opens on May 4th!
