Nicolas Cage tracks a serial killer in 'The Frozen Ground' trailer

Two days, two Nicolas Cage movie trailers. Yesterday saw the first trailer for Stolen, which kinda looked like every cheaply produced action film Cage has been starring in for the last few years....only in a taxi cab. Today sees the release of The Frozen Ground's trailer, and at the very least it looks like a competent, atmospheric crime procedural.

Based on the true events surrounding the 1980s hunt for serial killer Robert Hansen, who kidnapped and murdered nearly 20 young women in the Alaskan wilderness, The Frozen Ground surprisingly doesn't have Cage in the crazy killer role. Instead, he stars as detective Jack Halcombe, with John Cusack as the murderous Hansen. Interesting reversal of roles there, only met by Vanessa Hudgens again shedding her Disney persona as a stripper and potential victim. Between Sucker Punch, Spring Breakers, and this, Hudgens has put the High School Musical days long behind her, I think.

The trailer looks a tad bit unfinished, so don't be surprised if a newer version comes out shortly. Clearly, if this is floating around that means a release date is around the corner. We may see The Frozen Ground hitting theaters before the year is up.  Written and directed by Scott Walker, the film also features 50 Cent, Katherine LaNasa, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, and Dean Norris....[CinemaTeaser via ThePlaylist]
