Two men fight to save their love in the powerful 'Keep the Lights On' trailer

For all the good Brokeback Mountain did encouraging  Hollywood to bring a homosexual romance to the mainstream, they've been extremely reluctant to follow-up on it ever since. Especially when it comes to a love story involving male lovers, those that actually get greenlit are few and far between. The indie and festival scene has been where many of these films have found purchase, and it's also where Keep the Lights On proved to be one of the biggest hits at this past Sundance.

Co-written and directed by Ira Sachs(Forty Shades of Blue), the story is actually based in part on his tumultuous ten-year relationship with Bill Clegg, a literary agent who chronicled much of his personal demons in a recent memoir. Thure Lindhardt plays Erik, a New York filmmaker who meets and has a one night stand with Paul, played by Zachary Booth(Damages). Falling in love quickly, their relationship is a complicated tug of war for control, until things begin to spiral out of control when Paul's casual drug use turns into full-blown addiction.

With a release date slated for September 17th, a trailer has been released, and in it you can get a sense of how deeply personal the material is. The film was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at Sundance, and Lindhardt has been earning some high praise for his performance, as well. The bonds of love run deep in this story, and Erik's heartbreak as Paul slips further away is palpable. With a ton of positive buzz behind it, it'll be interesting to see how the film does when it opens next month. Julianne Nicholson, Maria Dizzia, and Souleymane Sy Savane(Goodbye Solo) co-star. Check out the trailer for Keep the Lights On below...
