Shorter, equally beautiful trailer for The Wachowski's 'Cloud Atlas' emerges

So is Cloud Atlas a glorious return to sci-fi form for The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer? Or will it turn out to be just another gorgeous big budget disaster like some of their other work? Based on the stunning six-minute trailer we received late in July and this newly released short version, the jury is still out.

The film is based on David Mitchell's extremely dense, sprawling novel that many have deemed to be totally unfilmable. Featuring a star-studded cast playing multiple roles and crossing genders, the basic idea takes a look at how even the simplest of actions can have dramatic effects across time and space. There's no denying the Wachowski's natural artistic gifts are at play in every gorgeous frame, but whether or not they can master the multiple themes and Mitchell's overlapping narratives remains to be seen.  They'll get plenty of help with Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Bae Doona, Hugh Grant, Ben Whishaw, Hugo Weaving, and more as part of the cast. This trailer's a little more simplified than the earlier one, and the tones are all over the map, but there's no denying the majestic feel all the way through. Cloud Atlas looks like a major cinematic event, so let's hope it lives up to the hype.

Cloud Atlas hits theaters on October 26th. Check out the trailer below....
