'The Words' directors take on young adult novel 'Break My Heart 1,000 Times'
Although the film was met with a mixed response out of Sundance, Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal are set to make a splash this weekend when The Words finally hits theaters. I remember leaving Park City more than a little disappointed in the film as a whole, but it had more to do with their script than direction, which showed real life and energy. They have promise, so it'll be interesting to see how that develops with their next project, an adaptation of Daniel Waters' young adult novel, Break My Heart 1,000 Times.
The book doesn't hit store shelves until next month and it's already being looked at as a major potential hit in the Twilight vein. Adapted by Jason Fuchs(Ice Age: Continental Drift), the story takes place nine years after a cataclysmic "Event" has left ghosts inhabiting the world. When a girl named Veronica and her friend Kirk begin to investigate why the ghosts are gaining strength, they stumble upon a larger, more sinister plot. Klugman and Sternthal will do a quick rewrite on the script, which is being described as part The Sixth Sense, part Disturbia. On paper that's a pretty sweet combo, but let's hear about some casting before getting too excited. [THR]
