After his breakthrough in the Swedish crime thriller Snabba Cash, Joel Kinnaman is fast on his way to becoming a household name. His AMC series The Killing is back for another season; he's leading the upcoming Robocop remake; and just a few days ago we learned he'd be joining Liam Neeson's latest action flick, The All-Nighter. Now he's landed a role opposite Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace in the promising Cold War thriller, Child 44.
Directed by Snabba Cash helmer Daniel Espinosa and based on Tom Rob Smith's novel, the film is set in Stalin-era Russia, and has Hardy as a disgraced MGB agent investigating a serial killer case with connections to the top the Soviet regime. Rapace is playing Hardy's secretive wife, while Kinnaman is his murderous nemesis.
With a script adapted by The Wire's Richard Price and Ridley Scott a serving as a producer, Child 44 seems to have its bases covered all around. Filming will begin this summer.
