Southern crime story may be next for 'Spring Breakers' director Harmony Korine

Controversial or not, Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers is already a hit, certainly the biggest of his career. The film got off to an impressive start in very limited release, earning more than $90K per site, ranking as one of the best averages of all-time. Before the film starts hitting multiplexes in a few days, Korine is already looking forward to what's coming up next.

Deadline reports that John Lesher (End of Watch) and DCM Productions will produce Korine's next directorial effort, an untitled film that "involves a multi-generational family of criminals in the South". While is expected to be next on his list, Korine is also developing projects with Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures, who picked up and distributed Spring Breakers.

For the most part, Korine's films have appealed to a very small segment of people, but Spring Breakers marks his first foray into the semi-mainstream. It'll be interesting to see if he continues down that path or if he returns to more experimental pursuits.
