Steven Spielberg wants next 'Adventures of Tintin' film ready for Christmas 2015

Hey, remember The Adventures of Tintin? The high-profile animated film seemed like a surefire hit with Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg collaborating on it, but it mostly came and went here without gaining much traction, not even earning a Best Animated Feature nomination. Personally, I thought it was robbed, and we should be ashamed it only made $77M here. It fared much better overseas, enough to justify a lot of buzz about a sequel.

The question has always been when a follow-up would happen. We know that Spielberg and Jackson will be flipping roles, with the Lord of the Rings helmer stepping behind the camera this time. The plan was for the film to shoot this year for release in 2015, and while talking to The Times of India, Spielberg backed that up....

Spielberg: "Peter Jackson is directing the next one, I'm producing. We have a script and we're going to start performance capture probably at the end of this year.

"Don't hold me to it, but we're hoping the film will come out around Christmas-time in 2015. We know which books we're making, we can't share that now but we're combining two books which were always intended to be combined by Herge."

Children's book author Anthony Horowitz will be adapting the screenplay, which could be based on the books Prisoner of the Sun, The Seven Crystal Balls, or The Calculus Affair. They're doing a good job keeping it secret. But when it comes to a third Tintin film, Spielberg admitted it would "probably" based on The Blue Lotus.
