Jacques Audiard's 'A Prophet' to be remade; '21 Jump Street' sequel gets a title

It's no longer a shock when someone in Hollywood has the "brilliant" idea to remake a great foreign film, so why beat around the bush? The Wrap is reporting that Sony and producer Neal Moritz are moving forward with an American remake of Jacque Audiard's incredible French crime saga, A Prophet. The film was a sensation a couple of years ago, nominated for the Best Foreign Language Oscar and basically introducing us to its star, Tahar Rahim.

So maybe there's some reason to hope this will be better than the usual crapstick remakes we normally get? Well...yes and no. Moritz is one of the producers behind the awesome Fast & Furious franchise, and he's produced a string of big blockbusters in his time. But he's also done a lot of junk, especially in the realm of remakes, inflicting S.W.A.T. and the recent Total Recall debacle on us. If you hated Jack the Giant Slayer earlier this year (and you probably did), then it's Moritz you'll want to file a complaint with.

One thing that should be apparent from Moritz's resume is that he doesn't exactly do subtle and nuanced, so expecting his version of A Prophet to do so is probably a mistake. Then again, we don't know who will be directing it yet, do we?

In the same story, it was revealed that the 21 Jump Street sequel's title will be titled 22 Jump Street. Hopefully the returning Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will put more effort into the film than was done coming up with that title.
