Is Marvel Considering Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Doctor Strange?
Even though Marvel's Phase Two only just got underway with Iron Man 3, there has already been a great deal of speculation about Phase Three. Not just which films would be the latest additions, but going so far as rumors circulating about how would star in them. And so we've heard Morris Chestnut or Chadwick Boseman for Black Panther, which many expect to be announced at some point. And for Doctor Strange, all but a certainty to be revealed in the near future, we're now hearing Joseph Gordon-Levitt's name as a contender.
A rumor emerging at Latino Review has Marvel eying Levitt for the role of Doctor Stephen Strange, Marvel's resident Sorcerer Supreme. Levitt is obviously no stranger to the world of superheroes, playing John Blake in The Dark Knight Rises and has been a favored pick by many to pick up the Batman mantle at some point. Chances are a high-profile role as part of the Marvel Universe would put the kibosh on any Gotham City hopes, but it's not completely out of the question. Ryan Reynolds has played Green Lantern for Warner Bros. and has been set to play Deadpool for 20th Century Fox's long-developing film.
Levitt's reps have denied the story, and even Latino Review seems to suggest this rumor should be taken with some salt. Although it should be noted that Levitt was once in the running for the lead role in Guardians of the Galaxy, so maybe this is a case of old news getting mixed up. Or Marvel is turning to someone they're already quite familiar with. Or they just really want to work with one of the hottest actors around who has a very loyal following right in their target audience. If there's any real meat to the story, chances are it'll come out during the Marvel panel at Comic-Con. Levitt will be seen next in his directorial debut, Don Jon.
