Jon Favreau Cooks Up the First Trailer for 'Chef'
They say that food is only as good as the heart and soul a chef is willing to put into it. It's not much of a stretch to say that idea also applies to making movies, and we've seen plenty of indie filmmakers make the jump to soulless blockbusters, only to reignite their passion by returning to the art house. And that seems to be what Jon Favreau has done with his small-budget comedy, Chef, which brings back a couple of his friends from the Iron Man days.
After premiering at SXSW a few weeks ago, the first trailer for Chef has been served, and I'm already the hungrier for watching it. Favreau wrote, directed, and stars in the film about a successful LA chef who quits his job at a prominent LA restaurant. With his professional and personal life in disarray, he opens a food truck with his son and renews his love for cooking. Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson are part of a strong ensemble that includes Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo, Bobby Cannavale, Oliver Platt, and Dustin Hoffman. This is Favreau back in his indie comfort zone, where he built his career on films like Swingers and Made.
Chef opens on May 9th.
