Shailene Woodley Flashes Her Tattoos In New 'Divergent' Posters
Just like Twilight, Beautiful Creatures, and The Mortal Instruments before it, Divergent has its own legion of loyal fans. They no doubt realize the significance of the many tattoos that are the highlight of these new posters featuring stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James, but it won't be as obvious to everyone else. Woodley plays Beatris "Tris" Prior, who lives in a society where humanity is broken up into five factions based on ideology. Tris is a "divergent" and doesn't fit into any category, and must put a stop to a conspiracy to destroy others just like her.
The one-sheet for Tris shows her with three ravens near her collarbone, which signify the members of her family. Theo James plays Four, given that name because of his four greatest fears: heights, claustrophobia, shooting, and his own father. His back is tattooed with the symbols of all the different factions, to show that he doesn't consider them to be his rivals. Or something like that. My Divergent knowledge is a bit musty.
Coming off a string of poorly-received YA adaptations, Divergent has a tough road convincing non-fans that it's a cut above the rest and deserves to be thought of in the same was as The Hunger Games. Divergent is directed by Neil Burger and hits theaters on March 21st 2014.
