Review: 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' Starring Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Eva Green

Just how good of a year was 2005 for comic book movies? You basically had two groundbreaking films that turned the entire genre on its side opening within two months of each other: Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and Robert Rodriguez's Sin City. Nobody disputes the impact of Nolan's trilogy but it can be argued Sin City, with its sleazy cast of hard-edged film noir archetypes and visuals literally popping from the pages of Frank Miller's graphic novel, was more immediately impressive. Copycats followed and Rodriguez's use of CGI technology became the new standard for by which all such films were measured. There just weren't any more Sin City flicks, at least not right away. Nine years later, after much teasing by Rodriguez, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is finally here and it offers sexier femme fatales, more angry antiheroes, more blood and nudity. And while that may be enough to satisfy the most hardcore fans others may feel like the long wait was barely worth it.

The genius of Sin City and its pair of adaptations, co-directed by Rodriguez and Miller, is that it resembles the nasty criminal underworld of Batman comics with the hyper-stylization of superheroes. It's a place where a crazed behemoth like Marv (Mickey Rourke) can get shot a dozen times and come back to pluck a guy's eye out, grumbling one-liners the whole way. Rodriguez doesn't so much as recreate the familiar film noir elements; dark shadows, cigarette smoke, vigilantes and manipulative vixens; he glorifies them while indulging in the comical violence he's always been such a fan of. In this case, the maddeningly over-the-top violence more closely resembles that of Rodriguez's Machete Kills, which couldn't be less of a film noir than Spy Kids was.

Rodriguez's computer generated backgrounds, which blew our minds nine years ago, no longer have that element of surprise but they are still breathtaking to behold. Shattered glass and spraying blood glisten in the eye-popping starkness of this black and white world, occasionally lit up by flashes of color. Usually these brief moments of vibrancy are reserved for the ladies, who are either arm candy or scheming she-devils. Like the first film, a series of loosely-connected short stories ripped from the comics comprise the bulk of the material, with a couple of new tales that introduce a new character and expand on another. The crisscrossing chronology allows for some dead characters to be seen once again, like Marv and his demented search for answers in "Just Another Saturday Night". In that one, Marv, whose head has never been screwed on too tight, cracks heads while trying to figure out why he killed a bunch of guys. A thread from the first film is followed-up on in "Nancy's Last Dance", in which the saintly (for Sin City anyway) strip club dancer Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) goes nuts after the death of her savior, John Hartigan (Bruce Willis), and seeks revenge on the politically-connected Roark clan of psychos.

Because so much of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For remains unchanged from before, both in terms of tone and visual flourish, it's the new additions to the cast who are the greatest blast to spend time with. The centerpiece story “A Dame to Kill For" features the dangerously gorgeous Eva Green in various states of undress. No other actress so perfectly embodies the classic femme fatale as Green, who plays Ava Lord in a twisted tale that explains how street hero Dwight (now played by Josh Brolin) came to need that new face he had in the first film. Dwight's always had a soft spot for the ladies and Lord exploits that by calling on him for help against the torturous Manute (Dennis Haysbert) and her abusive billionaire husband. She and Dwight share a troubled romantic past and he can't resist her cries for help or her sexual advances. Of course she's not being totally honest about her situation, and when Dwight enlists Marv (who appears in practically every story) to take down Lord once and for all its bloody and kinky in all the ways we love about Sin City. Green slinks and slithers like a snake with her piercing eyes and Rodriguez lavishes us with every gratuitous shot of her shimmering body. He's as smitten with her as the many men who fall under Lord's spell, which includes Christopher Meloni as a married cop who haplessly carries out her orders. She's everything the title suggests and more.

The best of the fresh material is Joseph Gordon-Levitt's "The Long Bad Night", in which the perfectly-suited actor plays Johnny, a cardsharp riding a hot streak and decides to see how far he can take it. With a hot dame (Julia Garner) by his side he decides to take on Sin City's most heinous villain, Senator Roarke (Powers Boothe) in a poker match and wins handily. Winning may have its privileges but not in Sin City, and Roarke makes Johnny's life a gruesome waking nightmare.

Sadly we don't get to see nearly enough of Rosario Dawson as Gale, leader of the Old Town prostitutes, while brief cameos by Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, and Stacy Keach mostly serve as "ah ha" moments rather than anything memorable. With all the CGI violence and sexy babes this is Rodriguez right in his element, but there's never any attempt to improve on what came before. Sin City was such a game-changer that it's disappointing Rodriguez doesn't try to break new ground with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. He gives fans all the blood and guts they can handle and absolutely nothing more.

Outlaws Become Heroes in New 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' Trailer

A lot has changed in the nine years since Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City delivered a pulpy and bloody twist on the comic book movie genre. The films are bigger, look better, and with the big two of Marvel and DC running the show there's little room for much else to gain traction. And with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For debuting in just a couple of months with basically the same look and cast, will there be the same excitement for it as before?

A new, expanded trailer makes a solid case that fans of the original will be pleased, but what about everybody else? Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Powers Boothe, Bruce Willis, and Rosario Dawson are back as the criminals and antiheroes of Sin City, joined by newcomers Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Juno Temple, Eva Green, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Jamie Chung, and more. While most of the stories are adapted from Miller's graphic novels, a pair of original stories penned by Miller and William Monahan will keep things fresh. The centerpiece tale, and the one which gives the film its title, will center on Ava Lord (Green) and her double-cross of the heroic Dwight, now played by Brolin.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens August 22nd.

New Trailer for Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For'

When Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller unveiled Sin City back in 2006, it was a stylized, revolutionary piece of work. It was as if Miller's comic were springing from the pages right onto the screen, and with a cast of A-listers inhabiting that hard-boiled world it was truly something special. This summer Sin City: A Dame to Kill For finally arrives after numerous delays, and and although the stars and technology appear to be the same, there's a decided lack of buzz surrounding it.

A new trailer has been released and it's basically just an edited version of the one that hit the web a few weeks ago. Josh Brolin is one of the handful of new faces, replacing Clive Owen in the role of Dwight who must prevent being murdered by his former flame, Ava Lord, played by Eva Green. That's just one of the many gritty stories following Sin City's notorious and extremely violent residents. Even the good guys are pretty bad.

Rodriguez hasn't done much to give the film a fresher look, and that may be why it's been lost in the summer crowd. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens August 22nd.

The Talent Show: Eva Green

Look, I'm going to hate the new 300 sequel, Rise of an Empire. There's no way around it. Given how much I really resented 300 and how over Frank Miller's insanely over-the-top conservative ideologies I am, and how stupid Rise of an Empire looks, I will not enjoy it. I will not! And, you know, the fact that I'm Iranian and we're only portrayed in these comics and movies as either a. sociopathic faux-demigods with weird homosexual overtones, b. freakish mutant whores, or c. faceless soldiers to be slaughtered doesn't really sit well with me.

The only thing that could make me give 300: Rise of an Empire any time of day is Eva Green, who I love and cherish forever. Goddamn, but she is beautiful, and is right up there in my life "Women I Want to Grow Up to Be" list (other notable members: Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Sofia Coppola). And if you don't think Eva Green is lovely (maybe you haven't seen The Dreamers, Kingdom of Heaven, Casino Royale, The Golden Compass, or that terrible mini-series she was in, Camelot), then you're either stupid or blind. I guess the safest word to describe her would be "edgy," but she gives me an old-school Angelina Jolie vibe, of untouchable exotic beauty with a slight touch of intense crazy. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

Am I upset she has to take roles in crap like 300: Rise of an Empire? Of course. But she's playing one of my people, the famed female naval commander Artemisia, so I'll kind of let it slide. I mean, they're probably going to make her a deranged and slutty Xerxes worshiper in Rise of an Empire, and that's some major bullshit. Until then, I guess, I can just gaze at her face and console myself with her beauty. You should, too.

Jack Thorne to Pen 'Sandman'; Ruben Fleischer Stays 'Overnight' for Disney; Frank Miller Wants 'Sin City 3'

* Warner Bros. has hired Brit writer Jack Thorne (How I Live Now, The Fades) pen Sandman, based on Neil Gaiman's seminal comic book series. Joseph Gordon-Levitt came on to produce and direct it just a few months ago, but Deadline's story seems to indicate that a deal is not quite done yet. Thorne knows the work of Gaiman well, having been hired to pen Joe Wright's adaptation of the author's most recent novel, The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

* Ruben Fleischer swung and missed badly with Gangster Squad, but Disney is willing to look past that, tapping him to direct Overnight. In what sounds like Home Alone meets Career Opportunities, the story centers on a father and son who win an overnight stay in a toy store, only to have thieves try to rob the place. Hey, this is Disney, so chances are everything will turn out okay, and since this is in a toy store there should be plenty of room for product placement. [Deadline]

* It was nine long years between Sin City and this summer's Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, with Robert Rodriguez stringing us along the whole way. So I'm not holding my breath for a third film or any possible TV series, but co-director and Sin City creator Frank Miller is already looking ahead. Rodriguez told Sirius XM's Ron and Fez...

"Yeah - the second Sin City - I was just here with Frank Miller last night and we were watching it last night. [We] finished the cut, effects are being done, it will come out in August. He [Miller] watched Part 2 - he watched it last night with me and then at the end he said, he didn't have any comments, he was very happy with it. And he said, now about part three.... Started telling me how he's going to do part three. So he's already there on part three."

Yeah, we'll see about that. And note how Rodriguez put all of the burden on Miller, and none on himself. It may all depend on how Sin City: A Dame to Kill For performs beginning August 22nd.

'300: Rise of an Empire' gets another blood-soaked trailer

Want some insane racism and cultural and historical inaccuracy in your schedule for March? Then maybe you'll be introduced in this new blood-soaked trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire, the sequel to the film adaptation of Frank Miller's comic book 300. Because the first wasn't propaganda enough!

In the second film, Eva Green (I'm disappointed in you, Eva) stars as a female Persian warrior leading her naval fleet against the Greeks, who are looking to avenge the death of Leonidas (no, Gerard Butler is not coming back for this) and his 300 men. Other people are back, though: Lena Headey as Leonidas's grieving, vengeful widow, and Rodrigo Santaro as the most revolting depiction of Persian emperor Xerxes ever. Oh look, he's taking a bath in - what is that, liquid gold? - as Persians bow before him. I must have missed that in all those Persian history and culture classics I took in college.

Please, share in my rage by watching this trailer. Or, if for some reason you are into this garbage, re-evaluate your life.

300: Rise of an Empire pollutes movie theaters on March 7, 2014.

Zack Snyder Meeting with Frank Miller About 'Superman vs. Batman' Movie

Comic book fanboys nearly peed themselves with the Comic-Con announcement of a Batman vs. Superman story for Man of Steel 2, but they went into geek orbit when the booming voice of Harry Lennix read an ominous quote from Frank Miller's seminal 1986 Batman story, The Dark Knight Returns. Having adapted two of Miller's graphic novels to the big screen in 300 and 300: Rise of an Empire, it should come as no surprise to learn that Zack Snyder is eager to pick the writer's brain one more time.

A report from The Independent (via Bleeding Cool) says Miller will "be meeting up with Zach [sic] in the next few days to go over the plans for the Superman film so things should be clearer after that." Miller apparently had no idea about the untitled movie's announcement, and definitely wasn't aware that it would be inspired by TDKR, so chances are this little get together could just be friendly conversation between colleagues. But given their past history, and the success they've had as a team, one has to consider the possibility that Snyder will want Miller to take a more active role.

It's important to note that the film is merely inspired by TDKR, not based on it as some have assumed. The story has an aging Bruce Wayne taking up the mantle of Batman one more time to save a dystopian version of Gotham City, with Superman working with the government to bring him down. It's completely a Batman-centered tale, and Snyder's film will be focused mainly on Superman. It's a proper Man of Steel sequel in that respect, with Batman introduced as a supporting character and a temporary rival. It's for that reason we likely won't see the film titled Superman vs. Batman as some predict, because it suggests equal billing.

Whatever the film will be titled, it's expected to open in 2015.

Jamie Chung and Jamie King set for 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For'

Now that Robert Rodriguez is all finished up with Machete Kills, he's moving from that right into the long-awaited Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.  Fans of 2005's Sin City have been craving the follow-up for years, and after enduring tons of delays and Rodriguez's constantly putting it on the backburner, production has now officially gotten underway today.

As expected, Rosario Dawson, Mickey Rourke, and Jessica Alba are expected to return, with Clive Owen presumed to be reprising his role as Dwight. As hinted at the in the first film, Dwight has undergone some radical facial surgery, so it's expected that someone else will play another version of Dwight. THR also notes the return of Jaime King as Goldie, the blond prostitute that Marve was obsessed with. She'll now play Goldie's twin sister, Wendy. Jamie Chung is the first official new cast member announced, replacing Devon Aoki as the sword-wielding assassin Miho.

There's still a lot of major casting yet to be completed, including for the all-important role of the sexy seductress Ava, which at one time they had hoped Angelina Jolie would take. There's also a newly created character named Johnny, a smooth gambler.

Rodriguez is again co-directing with Sin City creator Frank Miller, and while a number of storylines will again be incorporated, we do know that Just Another Saturday Night is one of the stories that will play a major part. Last we'd heard, the plan was for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For was being targeted for an October 4th 2013 release.

Finally! 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' casting begins next week; filming begins this summer

No, I'm not pulling your leg and it appears Robert Rodriguez isn't stringing us along anymore, the way he has for seven frustrating years. The sequel to Sin City is actually happening, with casting set to begin next week. Considering the crazy mix of stars who made up the last film, this might be the most entertaining film to follow since Django Unchained.

Titled Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the film features a script by creator Frank Miller and William Monahan(The Departed), and is expected to start filming this summer, just as Rodriguez promised at SXSW last month. Assuming his previous plan is still in place, Machete Kills will film this spring, which would mean jumping immediately into Sin City.

A Dame to Kill For will be the over arcing story, but there will be other of Miller's tales filling in the gaps, including the special short story, Just Another Saturday Night. It looks as if the majority of the previous film's cast is expected to return, which included Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Clive Owen, and many more. Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba have been rumored to come back for months, and considering they play arguably the two most important characters in Sin City, they pretty much need to return. It'll be interesting to see what new faces pop up.

None of that matters right now, though. The wait is almost over! I feel like we should be popping champagne or something.

Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba to return for Sin City 2?

The six year long tease that has been Sin City 2 finally appears to be coming to an end, with the addition of William Monahan(The Departed) doing some fine tuning on Frank Miller's script. Robert Rodriguez recently stated that shooting could begin as soon as the end of the year, which always seemed a little optimistic to me, considering the number of actors that needed to have their schedules synced up. For one, Mickey Rourke has been a little reluctant to come back to play the hulking brute, Marv, an integral character in a number of Sin City's multiple arcs. Speaking recently to MTV, Miller provided a brief update that would appear to hint at Rourke's potential return, as well as that of Jessica Alba...

Miller: 'Sin City' number two is primarily an adaptation of the book 'A Dame to Kill For'," Miller reiterated, then adding: "It also features the short story, 'Just Another Saturday Night' and two new stories. One involving Jessica Alba's character, Nancy Callahan, that I came up with for the movie in order to tie things together and make it be more united with the first."

Just Another Saturday Night was a special story Miller wrote and made available on a limited basis. It tells the story of what Marv was doing the night Nancy(Alba) and John Hartigan(Bruce Willis) dealt with the events detailed in That Yellow Bastard, one of the last film's main storylines. Nancy and Marv are also featured characters in A Dame to Kill For, so it's assumed Alba will return, and the possibility exists for Rourke as well. Although considering the heavy make-up needed for the Marv character, he could always be recast.

So basically this sequel will encompass four stories. A Dame to Kill For is the main storyline. Just another Saturday Night is another, and then there are two new stories, one which we already know is titled The Long, Bad Night. Miller added that shooting may not actually begin until spring of 2012, which sounds more realistic.

Noam Murro to direct 300: Battle of Artemisia

Joy! More sweaty, chiseled dudes in loincloths and naked chests. Tell me again why guys loved 300 so much, cuz I don't see it. Anyway, with Zack Snyder far too busy crafting the adventures of the Man of Steel, Warner Brothers pushed ahead with a sequel titled 300: Battle of Artemisia, with a script by Snyder and co-writer Kirk Johnstad. Based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller, the story will take place a decade before the battle at Thermopylae, and deal with the Xerxes' attempt to gain godhood. A number of directors were on a shortlist for the job with the two lead dogs being Jaume Collet-Serra(Orphan) and Noam Murro(Smart People). Now it appears Warner Brothers has landed on Murro for the gig.

Makes sense, since the studio only just a day ago pegged Collet-Serra for their troubled Akira adaptation. Murro is relatively untested as a director, having helmed the plodding and unfunny Smart People. He's been linked to the possible Die Hard 5 flick nobody wants to see, but lord knows when that'll get off the ground. Hopefully never.

Murro's real claim to fame comes from those awesome Halo:Reach TV spots from awhile back, but that doesn't sell me on his ability to handle a film like this. He'll be expected to match or surpass the distinctive look Snyder presented, and I don't know if he can do that. I guess we'll see. Another question I have is in the portrayal of Xerxes. Rodrigo Santoro played the lanky and somewhat androgynous ruler in the first film. Will he be coming back for this one?

Rodriguez says Sin City 2 next on his list

They should coin a new phrase for us beleaguered Sin City fans, "Battered Sin City fan Syndrome". Like most everyone else who loved Robert Rodriguez's violent 2005 flick, I've been eagerly waiting for the star-studded sequel. It's been promised, then shelved, then written, and whatever but it never seems to get done. Something else always takes precedent. Not really unexpected given Rodriguez's disgustingly busy work schedule, but it'd be nice to hear something concrete one way or another. Either make the damn thing or cancel it. I'm tired of the ping ponging back and forth.

Maybe, and I emphasize MAYBE we're headed in the right direction again as The Playlist found some interesting words from Rodriguez on the status of Sin City, stating that he intends it to be his next film after completion of Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, which just began shooting last month....

“Frank Miller and I are working on it. It’s slated to be the next one.” But if the script is not ready, then we’ll have to move to the next one.”

Note the caveat at the end. So the burden falls upon Sin City creator Frank Miller to punch up the draft before Rodriguez agrees, and if not then he'll start one of his dozen other projects and it'll be 2015 before the subject even comes up.

This actually isn't the first time Rodriguez has made this claim. He had similar things to say back in July.

Spy Kids 4 is due to be released in August of next year, so presuably Miller has until around that time to hammer out the script. Let's hope it works out, but I'm curious whether anybody else out there still cares about a Sin City sequel?

Snyder already writing 300 sequel

Zack Snyder sure seems to think he'll be behind the director's chair for Xerxes, the sequel to 300. In fact, he and Kurt Johnstad have already started writing the script. But...does that mean creator Frank Miller has finished the Xerxes graphic novel? Snyder doesn't really say but...what would he be adapting if it wasn't done?? Here's what Snyder told Hero Complex....

Snyder: It’s really going to depend on what the studio wants to do and what we do when we finish; I don’t have a directing deal in place but we are writing it, so call it intent. If there was a crime they could probably convict me.

That certainly implies that the comic book script is finished. Miller has been working on the script for his six-issue mini series since around March of last year, with Snyder closely following the process. The story would take place ten years before the events of 300, and follows Xerxes, the Persian king responsible for the invasion of Sparta. Snyder's description of the plot makes it sound absolutely amazing.

This movie follows Themistocles and the Battle of Artemisium, which coincidentally happens on the exact same three days as the Battle of Thermopylae. This one starts off with a quick retelling of the why of the Persian wars. It starts off at the Battle of Marathon and then it goes back to Themistocles finding out that Persians are invading again. and off we go over to learn a little bit about why Xerxes is the way he is.

Darius gets wounded at Marathon and he’s super cool and like a great guy. Even the Greeks are like, ‘Darius is awesome.’ After Darius dies, Xerxes [his son] is so distraught, but Darius had told him, ‘Don’t attack the Greeks, only a god can punish the Greeks.’ So that’s when he calls his mystics and wizards and says, ‘Make me a god so I can avenge my father.’

I can't wait for this. It already sounds better than 300 did. Don't get me wrong, I liked 300 fine. I just think any guy who's seen it more than twice might need to be a bit more honest about why he keeps watching it.

Sin City 2 "Could Happen Very Soon"

I love Robert Rodriguez, but that guy sure is fickle. He's got projects on top of projects, and he floats them out there casually then they disappear into the ether.(*cough*Red Sonja *cough). Asked for no doubt the gazillionth time on the subject, it looks like we might be getting what we asked for...finally!! He indicates that co-director(and Sin City creator) Frank Miller is just about to hand in a new script, seemingly invigorating Rodriguez to get the project back on the fast track.

"It's only about timing," Rodriguez tells MTV. "It could happen very soon. It could happen a little later. It could happen even later. But probably sooner rather than later."

There's a reason I threw the word "seemingly" in there, because even though Rodriguez appears to be amped up, he's still waffling a little bit. Sooner. Later. Sooner. Later. Dude, just get it done!

Ever since Sin City blazed onto the big screen back in 2005, fans have been clamoring for a sequel to the ultra stylized, violent flick. Rumors have run the gamut, whether it be casting(Angelina Jolie!) or release dates(Sin City 2 in 2008!)  Yeah, right. The film's cast has made no secret about a desire to get back to work on it, along with the film's producers. The problem is it keeps getting pushed back. Just a few weeks ago in an interview with Empire, Rodriguez seemed less than enthusiastic about it.

You can watch the full interview clip with Rodriguez and MTV right here.

Sin City 2 in 2010?

The news on Sin City 2 continues to trickle in but this is probably the most concrete info we've received in some time. Mania.com scored an interview with producer Stephen L'Heureux, who confirmed that the film will begin shooting in the latter half of 2010. He also confirmed there has already been discussion of Sin City 3. That's the good news.

The questionable news is that unlike the previous Sin City, the sequel will not be based on any of the Frank Miller graphic novels, but will instead be an original script by Miller himself. It was expected that Miller's "A Dame to Kill For" would be the core story used for the sequel, but obviously that's no longer the case.

The reason this is questionable is because Miller's track record with screenplays is spotty. His most recent foray gave us the crapfest, The Spirit, late last year. I'll be generous, though, because The Spirit was not an original Miller creation, and he is considerably more familiar with the world of Sin City obviously. Frankly, I'm excited over any news on the film. Sin City was one of my favorite movies of 2005 and continues to hold up every time I check it out.

Sin City 2 in 2010?

When asked about the prospects of the long gestating sequel to Sin City, the greatest male actor working today(that's right, I said it) Clive Owen had this to say to MTV:

"I'm hearing it might be next year,"

The sequel has long been rumored to be based on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. That story details how Dwight came to look as he does in Sin City, which is merely hinted at in the film. Rumors as to who will be playing Dwight's ex-lover Ava have been circulating for years, with Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, and Robert Rodriguez favorite Rose McGowan leading the pack. The sequel will also feature a brand new side story focusing on Nancy Callahan, the pole dancing cowgirl played by Jessica Alba.

I was a huge fan of Sin City when it came out, and I continue to love the film even now. It's not perfect, but it completely captures the spirit of the graphic novels. My biggest beef is that it's just too scattershot and all over the place, when it really needed to focus on a single thread, rather than trying to cram in every character in the entire universe. This sounds like a more focused effort. Hopefully Rodriguez can convince Tarantino to come back to direct a few scenes like he did last time.

Sin City 2 Being Shopped Around?

The fate of the sequel of 2005's Sin City has been up in the air for quite some time. Director Robert Rodriguez has often said how much he wants to do a sequel to the film, which brought in over $150M worldwide. Frank Miller was up for a sequel as well, even though his stock has plummeted after the dismal showing The Spirit made this past Christmas.

In recent weeks there have been some stories leaking out that the rights to Sin City might have lapsed, and that the Weinstein Company might have lost them altogether. The Weinsteins/Dimension have been on record stating that they believe they still own the rights and intend to produce the sequel. However, it's now being reported that the rights to Sin City are being shopped around to producers by agents representing the Frank Miller estate. What the heck? He ain't dead! Although he might've offed himself after reading reviews of The Spirit....

Sin City has languished in development Hell for the last four years, even though Angelina Jolie has expressed interest in joining the project. It's not clear at this point how this affects Robert Rodriguez, who is very closely affiliated with both the project and the Weinsteins.
