Bruce Willis to Star in Lame-Sounding Action Flick 'Extraction'

When was the last time Bruce Willis seemed motivated by one of his movies? Looper? The rest of the time it's been either an endless run of bad B-movie action flicks or A Good Day to Die Hard which might as well have been a B-movie. Let's face it, he's phoning it in at this point, and now he's signed on for another lame-sounding actioner.

Willis has agreed to star in Extraction, an action thriller directed by some guy named Steven C. Miller and is set to begin filming next month. Not that Willis will need a lot of prep time to play "a former CIA operative who hasn’t been the same since his wife was murdered. His son is a fresh young CIA operative following in his footsteps and with his father they are working on the development of a super-weapon called the Condor, when dad is kidnapped by a terrorist group. Learning that there is no plan for his father to be saved, Harry launches his own rescue operation. It leads to a conspiracy that will change his life forever."

Sounds like Willis barely has a role here, but is probably getting a full pay day out of it. Can't argue with that. [Deadline]

Michael C. Hall joins 'Pete's Dragon'; Aubrey Plaza meets 'Dirty Grandpa'; Bruce Willis plots 'Bandits'

A non-musical remake of Disney's live-action/animated film Pete's Dragon may not seem like one that would demand a ton of talent around it but that's exactly what it's got. David Lowery's film already stars Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley, Oakes Fegley, and Oona Lawrence, and now you can add Dexter's Michael C. Hall. The film centers on an orphan boy who befriends a giant imaginary dragon. [Variety]

Last year Aubrey Plaza starred in the extremely raunchy comedy The To Do List, so she should be a perfect fit for a film titled Dirty Grandpa. She joins Zac Efron, Robert De Niro, and Zoey Deutch in the Dan Mazer-directed comedy about "an uptight twenty-something (Efron) who embarks on a road trip before his wedding to bond with his recently widowed grandfather (De Niro) only to find that his grandpa is a foul-mouthed lunatic on a mission to get laid during Spring Break." That sounds kind of great, actually. [Deadline]

Bruce Willis is finally bringing Elmore Leonard's book Bandits to the big screen. Years ago he had optioned the rights only to have it lapse and get picked up by Quentin Tarantino along with a bunch of other Leonardo novels. He, of course, ended up adapting Rum Punch into Jackie Brown while the other books again lapsed. Now Bandits is back in Willis' control and he's hired Mitch Glazer (Passion Play) to write the script. The dark comedy's complicated plot follows "Jack Delaney, an ex-con who is struggling to stay on the straight path as he dresses up corpses as a mortician in his brother’s funeral home. Things get much more exciting for him when he meets a gorgeous lapsed nun who is just back from Nicaragua where she took care of lepers and tried to keep the contras from hacking them up with machetes. She wants to smuggle a beautiful young Nicaraguan woman – who contracted leprosy–because the woman’s ex-lover, a Somoza-type colonel, wants to kill her for possibly infecting him. That same guy is raising millions from rich Americans to take back to the contras and the bored mortician finds his own cause, stiffing the colonel and getting away with a fortune with the help of the nun and an ex-cop." First Trailer for Sci-Fi Flick 'Vice' starring Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane

How many movies about artificial intelligences gaining sentience have we seen just this year? Probably too many (can we axe Transcendence from our memories, please?), and there are more on the way next year. It's a popular sci-fi trope, one that isn't going away any time soon, especially since they make easy genre fodder for guys like Bruce Willis, who has specialized in "easy genre" movies for the bulk of his recent career. The latest to likely find a short trip to the discount bin is Vice, a sci-fi flick from director Brian A. Miller.

"Imagine a place where there are no laws, no rules, no consequences", Willis drones at the beginning of Vice's first trailer. He plays the owner of a resort where people are free to live out their darkest desires using very lifelike robots. Ambyr Childers (We Are What We Are) plays one of these robots who has memories of past atrocities and flees, with a long-haired Thomas Jane brought in to track her down. The dialogue is pretty atrocious but there may be some value in it if you're hard-up to watch Willis kick some robot butt. Oh wait, he doesn't seem to do much but stand around and chit-chat. My bad. Take it all back.

Vice opens next year on January 16th.

Rumor: Naomi Watts, Chris Evans, and Li Bingbing Sought for 'The Expendabelles'; Stallone and Willis Confirmed

Maybe it was the leak that saw The Expendables 3 viewed by millions weeks before it hit theaters, but Sylvester Stallone's action bonanza (clearly the best of the franchise) tanked hard at the box office..domestically, anyway. Internationally it was a powerhouse, with more than $160M of its $204M total coming from overseas markets. And while there is still some buzz of a fourth film, what's likely to come first is the female-led spinoff, The Expendabelles, and some new names are being rumored for the cast.

Now take all of this with a shot of side eye because the story emerged at The Tracking Board, which says offers have been sent to Naomi Watts, Alan Rickman (?), Chris Evans (??), Marcia Gay Harden, and Li Bingbing. They also "confirm" that Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis will be reprising their Expendables roles, which sounds suspicious given the blow up between the two during The Expendables 3 filming. Remember how Willis walked out on production because of a salary dispute, only to have Stallone rewrite the script and trash his character for the entire movie? Yeah. And with Stallone producing Expendebelles it doesn't seem likely he'd be begging Willis to return.

Anyway, we'll see if any of this shakes out. These are just offers and any of them could (and probably will) refuse, just as Meryl Streep and Sigourney Weaver did. Robert Luketic (Killers) is directing from a script by the Legally Blonde duo of Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith.

Cancelled Starz Series 'Magic City' is Now a Movie with Bruce Willis and Bill Murray

Starz gave their Miami mobster drama Magic City a couple of seasons before giving it the ax, the series never really getting off the ground despite a talented cast. The show starred Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, Kelly Lynch, and a hammy Danny Huston in the Mitch Glazer-created series set in the late 1950s at a glamorous hotel post-Cuban Revolution. And apparently somebody thinks the premise is just too good to let die because Magic City is now to become a feature film, with some pretty big names coming aboard to make it happen.

According to Deadline, Bruce Willis (!), and Bill Murray (!!) are joining the Magic City film, which Glazer will write and direct with Brett Ratner on board to produce. Wha?!? The first thought in your mind is probably "Oh, I can't get a Deadwood movie or The Wire but Magic City!?!?!?". I feel your pain. Anyway, the story takes place in 1962 when Morgan's powerful hotel owner contends with gangsters, spies, socialites, slimy politicians, Cuban freedom fighters armed by the CIA, and a possible plot to assassinate Castro. Good lord this sounds like a mess. Willis will sign on to anything so his involvement isn't a big deal, but what about the notoriously picky Murray? He and Glazer are buds having worked on Scrooged, the atrocious Passion Play, and the upcoming Middle Eastern rock music comedy (!!!!) Rock the Kasbah, which also features Willis.

So there ya go. The original cast is expected to return whenever production gears up.

Blu-Ray Deal of the Week: 68% Off The Die Hard 1-5 Collection

The Die Hard movies are basically Hollywood royalty. The action franchise made a superstar out of Bruce Willis and as we've seen with the fifth film in the series, A Good Day to Die Hard, they continue to make a mint at the box office. But they're also legitimately great, balls-to-the-wall action movies, especially those early ones, and now you can get the entire collection for a whopping 68% off. This week's blu-ray deal is the 10-Disc Die Hard Collection for only $31.99, that's barely more than $3 per disc. Pretty awesome. For that you get all five Die Hard movies plus the unrated versions of Live Free or Die Hard and A Good Day to Die Hard.

It's a great deal, so order yours here today!  We appreciate the support you continue to show our sponsors as it helps us a great deal. Punch Drunk Critics earns a small fee every time one of our readers buys from any of our links.

Review: 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' Starring Josh Brolin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Eva Green

Just how good of a year was 2005 for comic book movies? You basically had two groundbreaking films that turned the entire genre on its side opening within two months of each other: Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins and Robert Rodriguez's Sin City. Nobody disputes the impact of Nolan's trilogy but it can be argued Sin City, with its sleazy cast of hard-edged film noir archetypes and visuals literally popping from the pages of Frank Miller's graphic novel, was more immediately impressive. Copycats followed and Rodriguez's use of CGI technology became the new standard for by which all such films were measured. There just weren't any more Sin City flicks, at least not right away. Nine years later, after much teasing by Rodriguez, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is finally here and it offers sexier femme fatales, more angry antiheroes, more blood and nudity. And while that may be enough to satisfy the most hardcore fans others may feel like the long wait was barely worth it.

The genius of Sin City and its pair of adaptations, co-directed by Rodriguez and Miller, is that it resembles the nasty criminal underworld of Batman comics with the hyper-stylization of superheroes. It's a place where a crazed behemoth like Marv (Mickey Rourke) can get shot a dozen times and come back to pluck a guy's eye out, grumbling one-liners the whole way. Rodriguez doesn't so much as recreate the familiar film noir elements; dark shadows, cigarette smoke, vigilantes and manipulative vixens; he glorifies them while indulging in the comical violence he's always been such a fan of. In this case, the maddeningly over-the-top violence more closely resembles that of Rodriguez's Machete Kills, which couldn't be less of a film noir than Spy Kids was.

Rodriguez's computer generated backgrounds, which blew our minds nine years ago, no longer have that element of surprise but they are still breathtaking to behold. Shattered glass and spraying blood glisten in the eye-popping starkness of this black and white world, occasionally lit up by flashes of color. Usually these brief moments of vibrancy are reserved for the ladies, who are either arm candy or scheming she-devils. Like the first film, a series of loosely-connected short stories ripped from the comics comprise the bulk of the material, with a couple of new tales that introduce a new character and expand on another. The crisscrossing chronology allows for some dead characters to be seen once again, like Marv and his demented search for answers in "Just Another Saturday Night". In that one, Marv, whose head has never been screwed on too tight, cracks heads while trying to figure out why he killed a bunch of guys. A thread from the first film is followed-up on in "Nancy's Last Dance", in which the saintly (for Sin City anyway) strip club dancer Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) goes nuts after the death of her savior, John Hartigan (Bruce Willis), and seeks revenge on the politically-connected Roark clan of psychos.

Because so much of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For remains unchanged from before, both in terms of tone and visual flourish, it's the new additions to the cast who are the greatest blast to spend time with. The centerpiece story “A Dame to Kill For" features the dangerously gorgeous Eva Green in various states of undress. No other actress so perfectly embodies the classic femme fatale as Green, who plays Ava Lord in a twisted tale that explains how street hero Dwight (now played by Josh Brolin) came to need that new face he had in the first film. Dwight's always had a soft spot for the ladies and Lord exploits that by calling on him for help against the torturous Manute (Dennis Haysbert) and her abusive billionaire husband. She and Dwight share a troubled romantic past and he can't resist her cries for help or her sexual advances. Of course she's not being totally honest about her situation, and when Dwight enlists Marv (who appears in practically every story) to take down Lord once and for all its bloody and kinky in all the ways we love about Sin City. Green slinks and slithers like a snake with her piercing eyes and Rodriguez lavishes us with every gratuitous shot of her shimmering body. He's as smitten with her as the many men who fall under Lord's spell, which includes Christopher Meloni as a married cop who haplessly carries out her orders. She's everything the title suggests and more.

The best of the fresh material is Joseph Gordon-Levitt's "The Long Bad Night", in which the perfectly-suited actor plays Johnny, a cardsharp riding a hot streak and decides to see how far he can take it. With a hot dame (Julia Garner) by his side he decides to take on Sin City's most heinous villain, Senator Roarke (Powers Boothe) in a poker match and wins handily. Winning may have its privileges but not in Sin City, and Roarke makes Johnny's life a gruesome waking nightmare.

Sadly we don't get to see nearly enough of Rosario Dawson as Gale, leader of the Old Town prostitutes, while brief cameos by Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, and Stacy Keach mostly serve as "ah ha" moments rather than anything memorable. With all the CGI violence and sexy babes this is Rodriguez right in his element, but there's never any attempt to improve on what came before. Sin City was such a game-changer that it's disappointing Rodriguez doesn't try to break new ground with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. He gives fans all the blood and guts they can handle and absolutely nothing more.

The Honest Trailer for 'The Expendables' is a Little Too Perfect

When Sylvester Stallone first started putting together The Expendables he made it clear what his mandate for it was. Action heroes of today were soft compared to the rugged stars of his glory years, and the plan was to bring back some of the tough guy machismo of the '80s into the present. But as he rounded up a literal army of aging stars, which was admittedly pretty cool to see altogether (it's not so cool anymore), he forgot to prove exactly why those old movies were so awesome to begin with. The result was The Expendables, a film with a lot of star power and the worst aspects of the bad action movies from yesteryear, and only a few of the good qualities.

Just in time for this weekend's The Expendables 3, the Screen Junkies have delivered another of their hilarious Honest Trailers, this time for The Expendables. And they pretty much nail EVERYTHING the film got wrong. While I find the awful one-liners kind of endearing, the plot is ridiculous by any measure, and there's no excuse for the severe lack of action. But what's really funny about this are the little details which mainly revolve around Stallone's facial hair and incomprehensible dialogue. The description of Terry Crews nearly made me piss myself so I'll leave that for you to discover. And dude, I totally forgot Charisma Carpenter was in the first one! Damn these movies treat women like crap.

'The Prince' Skull Rocking Second Trailer!

Part of me thinks I shouldn't be as hyped by this trailer as I am, maybe it's the nostalgia of seeing Jason Patric in a leading role and John Cusack in all black ala Grosse Point Blank, whatever the cause I've kicked this one up to seriously anticipating. There seems to be quite a cast, even if they're not exactly the Varsity squad of Hollywood with the two I mentioned, obviously Bruce Willis, but also 50-cent...call it what you will but I don't mind the guy as an actor. The trailer gives us a good look at a pretty standard "Retired assassin/government agent/superspy brought back into his old world to save loved one" plot, but it has some serious style to it. Will it be a ground breaking film? Probably not, but I have a strong feeling it will be a fun two hours. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

Bruce Willis Goes Bad in Trailer for 'The Prince' with John Cusack and 50 Cent

It doesn't happen often, but you know those times when it seems like Bruce Willis hasn't had a movie in theaters in awhile? Well, those are the times he's busy making crappy bargain bin genre flicks alongside 50 Cent. Last year we learned of another one the unusual duo was teaming up for, and that movie was a crime thriller titled The Prince. It sounded like a cheap Taken knock-off then, and the trailer now basically just confirms.

Directed by Brian A. Miller and starring the two most bored actors in the world: John Cusack and Jason Patric, the film sees Willis as the bad guy this time, kidnapping the daughter of a mechanic with a criminal past. Of course the father has to use his particular set of skills, which apparently is the art of putting audiences to sleep with disinterested line deliveries, to get his daughter back.  Also co-starring in the film is Rain, who you may recognize as that guy from Ninja Assassin. Or maybe you won't recognize him from that. Forget it.

The Prince hits theaters (!!!) and VOD on August 22nd.

Outlaws Become Heroes in New 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' Trailer

A lot has changed in the nine years since Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City delivered a pulpy and bloody twist on the comic book movie genre. The films are bigger, look better, and with the big two of Marvel and DC running the show there's little room for much else to gain traction. And with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For debuting in just a couple of months with basically the same look and cast, will there be the same excitement for it as before?

A new, expanded trailer makes a solid case that fans of the original will be pleased, but what about everybody else? Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Powers Boothe, Bruce Willis, and Rosario Dawson are back as the criminals and antiheroes of Sin City, joined by newcomers Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Juno Temple, Eva Green, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Jamie Chung, and more. While most of the stories are adapted from Miller's graphic novels, a pair of original stories penned by Miller and William Monahan will keep things fresh. The centerpiece tale, and the one which gives the film its title, will center on Ava Lord (Green) and her double-cross of the heroic Dwight, now played by Brolin.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens August 22nd.

Samuel L. Jackson Rumored to Return for 'Die Hard 6'

The last halfway decent Die Hard movie was Die Hard with a Vengeance, which turned out to be more of a buddy film between Bruce Willis' John McClane and Samuel L. Jackson's Zeus Carver. From there the franchise got too big, got too dumb, and lost what made McClane cool in the first place. And maybe, since Willis has already confirmed a sixth movie is on the way, they're hoping to reclaim the old magic by bringing Jackson back in.

A rumor has surfaced over at Latino Review (got salt handy?) that claims 20th Century Fox wants prospective writers to figure out how to bring Carver back into the story....

TWITTER SCOOP: FOX is meeting writers for takes on next DIE HARD. It has to involve John McClane AND Samuel Jackson's Zeus Carver character!

This would seem to imply Jackson has some interest in returning, and that his schedule would even allow for it. Then again, how often does Jackson turn down anything? We'll see what happens but my money is not on this happening.

New Looks at Eva Green, Bruce Willis, and More in 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For'

It's been a long wait to get back to the crime-filled, pulpy streets of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City, but this summer that wait finally comes to an end. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For brings back much of the original cast while adding a few new faces, and the latest batch of photos give us a look at both. Eva Green stars as the titular "dame", Ava Lord, and clearly she's as beautiful as she is deadly. We also get a look at Dennis Haysbert as Manute, replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan; Jamie Chung, taking over for Devon Aoki as Miho; and Josh Brolin standing in for Clive Owen as Dwight. Joseph Gordon-Levitt can be seen as a completely new character dreamed up for the film, while Jessica Alba, Powers Boothe, and Bruce Willis are all back in familiar roles.

Basically, Rodriguez seems to be giving fans more of what they dug before. Can't really argue with that approach. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens August 22nd.

First Trailer for Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For'

Eight years ago when Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller took us to the crime-filled, noirish landscape of Sin City, the film's stylish black & white look was considered revolutionary, at least in the world of comic book movies. But now after all this time does it still hold the same mystique? That question begins to be answered with the release of the first trailer for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.

Again based on Miller's pulpy graphic novels, with some fresh material thrown in there penned by William Monahan (The Departed), the film takes us back to the blood-soaked streets of Sin City populated by bizarre villains, femme fatales, and stoic antiheroes. The footage gives us our first official look at Eva Green as the titular dame, and she's leading a powerful cast consisting of Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke, Josh Brolin, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Jamie Chung, Bruce Willis, Eva Green, Julia Garner, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven and Stacey Keach.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For opens August 22nd.

Bruce Willis and M. Night Shyamalan to Reunite for 'Labor of Love'

There was a time when both Bruce Willis and M. Night Shyamalan were at the top of their game, and really it wasn't that long ago. The two had paired up for The Sixth Sense and the director's most successful film creatively, Unbreakable (it's my favorite, anyway), but neither has done much worth celebrating since. With Shyamalan managing to make even a Will Smith movie flop with After Earth, and Willis coming off another awful Die Hard entry, the two are re-teaming in hopes of recapturing the old glory.

Deadline reports they'll pair up for Labor of Love, a tearjerker based on one of Shymalan's first screenplays. Here's how they break down the plot....

In Labor Of Love, Willis will play a Philadelphia book store owner who loses the love of  his life in a tragic accident. Never big on words, he becomes haunted by the notion that he never properly told his wife how much he loved her. Since she once asked if he would walk across the country for her, he decides to show her posthumously just how much he did love her. That trek starts from Philadelphia to Pacifica, CA, which was her favorite place.

Definitely sounds more romantic and personal than the blockbusters both men have been doing of late, which may be exactly what they need. Filming is set to begin this September.

Bruce Willis is 'Captive'; Aubrey Plaza Joins 'Mortdecai'; Elijah Wood 'Sets Fire to the Stars'

* Bruce Willis can still pack 'em in, especially for the most tired of action movies, and he's just added another one in hopes of getting more of your money. He'll star in the boringly-titled Captive (*yawn*), about "an American real estate magnate living in Brazil who is kidnapped and held for ransom at a prison cell hidden in a Sao Paolo landfill while a detective specializing in ransom cases tries to find him." Directing is Simon Brand, who helmed the mediocre "whodunnit" Unknown. [Variety]

* Production on the Johnny Depp-led comedy Mortdecai has moved to Los Angeles, and along with it a handful of promising new additions have been made to the cast. Aubrey Plaza, Jeff Goldblum, and Oliver Platt have joined Depp, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, and Paul Bettany in the adaptation of Kyril Bonfiglioli's books about the titular art dealer and part-time rogue who goes off on a quest involving a stolen painting and missing Nazi gold. David Koepp is directing, and with this cast Mortdecai could be Depp's best film in years.

* Elijah Wood will play famed poet John Michael Brinnin in the indie drama, Set Fire to the Stars.  Andy Goddard (Downton Abbey) will co-write and direct the story which chronicles Brinnin's friendship with Welsh writer Dylan Thomas, played by Celyn Jones. Thomas led a turbulent life led by his personal demons and a stormy marriage, and I suspect the bulk of the film will deal with how Brinnin tried to help his friend through it. Production begins later this month.

Will Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, and Dwayne Johnson Return for 'G.I. Joe 3'?

This will come as a surprise to absolutely no one, but the Internet has a habit of blowing things out of proportion. A few days ago G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M. Chu said this about the possibility of Channing Tatum returning for G.I. Joe 3...

Chu: "You never know. Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back. The G.I. Joe world, the best thing about it is you never know who's coming back and who's not."

Well now Chu has come out and clarified his statement and it doesn't seem likely we'll be seeing anymore of Duke. While talking to Comingsoon, Chu said...

Chu: " It all gets carried away again. They asked me about Channing and I don't know. You never know in these movies, and that's all I said, and suddenly it became "Channing Tatum might be back." To me, every possibility is open and we're writing the script right now and we're figuring everything out. It's an extremely low possibility when you kill somebody like that, it's pretty much it, but you never know with "G.I. Joe." We did that with Storm Shadow, too."

On the other hand, he seems pretty confident the influx of star power the franchise got with Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis will continue...

Chu: "I'm excited to bring in new characters and fun things beyond Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis that we're working on and some great villains, but we're forming those ideas now," he said. "I think we're going to be shooting next year. We're pretty motivated to get that up."

That's hardly a confirmation, but it does sounds as if both will be returning for another mission. Joining them will be Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye, confirming last week that she would be back. Chu has also left open the door for some of the first film's stars to return, including Rachel Nichols as Scarlet.

There's still no hard release date but Chu seems pumped to get production going in 2014....

Chu: "I think we're going to be shooting next year. We're pretty motivated to get that up."

If that's true it pretty much rules him out as director of Star Trek 3, doesn't it?

Bruce Willis Says He's "Bored" of Action Flicks

Anyone who has watched Bruce Willis shuffle his way half-assed through A Good Day to Die Hard, GI Joe: Retaliation, or Red 2 has probably already noticed that he looks pretty damn bored and kind of angry. It's never been more apparent than in the last couple of weeks, where he's berated innocent interviewers (Mary Louise Parker's face is priceless) and been called out as "lazy and greedy" by his old pal Sylvester Stallone. It's not a good look for the nearly 60-year-old Willis, and now we find out the reason he's been so cantankerous is that he's sick of doing all those action movies, even though they're the only thing people will pay to see him in.

While talking to Spanish site XLS (reported by the Guardian), Willis said...

“Explosions are one of the most boring parts of my job. When you have seen a few fireballs, it's not exciting any more. I know part of my audience enjoys the explosions, but to be honest, I'm a bit bored of it now."

Willis went on to show what a true thespian he is by admitting he only continues to make movies he apparently despises because they keep his wallet fat....

"I am very clear with who I am. I work in all sorts of films, but the action movies are the ones that generate the most revenue. I like to earn lots of money from those, but I do all types: small productions, mega-projects, medium-sized, even science fiction."

"Small productions" is probably in reference to those straight-to-DVD shit shows he makes with 50 Cent, which he probably gets paid mad loot for. Because let's face it, he probably didn't make squat for Lay the Favorite, a movie that featured no explosions and still had Willis looking very disinterested. Remember all of the negative stuff Kevin Smith said about him after the admittedly-awful Cop Out? It's attitudes like this that are confirming a very ugly narrative around Willis, and with A Good Day to Die Hard the lowest grossing of the franchise since the original, maybe it would be wise to perk up before Die Hard 6 because this isn't going to make anybody more likely to pay for it.

Sylvester Stallone's 'Expendables' Beef with Bruce Willis is Over Money, Of Course

As awesome as it was to learn that Harrison Ford, friggin' Han Solo and Indiana Jones (and Regarding Henry, unfortunately) would be joining The Expendables 3, it was far from the most interesting aspect of the story. Nor was it that Bruce Willis had unceremoniously departed the film, because stuff like that happens all of the time. Nope, it was Sylvester Stallone calling Willis "greedy and lazy" that people understandably latched on to. I can't really argue with the "lazy" claim, I've seen all of Willis' recent films and frankly he's not even trying, but "greedy"? What's that all about?

Turns out the issue is money, of course, but such a small amount (to guys like them, anyway) that it makes both look like raging blowhards. According to THR's source, the flap is over what amounts to $1M spread over the course of a 4-day shoot. Stallone offered Willis $3M, but he instead countered with a $4M demand or he'd drop out. Stallone refused, dropped Willis like a bad habit, and reached out to Ford, who the source says is "a better actor, a much nicer person and a more interesting direction for the film." Better actor, sure. But nicer? Go ask Ford who would win in a fight between Han Solo and Indiana Jones and see how nice he is.

Whatever, the whole thing is silly. Stallone looks like a control freak and hot head, while Willis looks like a prima donna. And all of this over The Expendables 3, which is basically a total lark of a film.

Harrison Ford Joins 'The Expendables 3' while Bruce Willis Exits

Give credit where credit is due; Sylvester Stallone has been shooting for the moon when it comes to upping the ante for his 'Expendables' franchise. He can truly say he's been able to lure in a number of screen legends and action movie icons, but that hasn't stopped him from going even bigger. When a rumor surfaced that Stallone wanted to get Harrison Ford for The Expendables 3, most wrote it off as wishful thinking. Turns out we all underestimated Stallone's power of persuasion.

Stallone took to his Twitter page and, shouting to the heavens Rambo-style no doubt, announced "WILLIS OUT... HARRISON FORD IN !!!! GREAT NEWS !!!!! Been waiting years for this!!!!". For all of the doubt thrown his way, practically everyone Stallone has approached for the film has come aboard, with the exception of Clint Eastwood. Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, Milla Jojovich, and Jackie Chan are the other new additions, along with Kellan Lutz as part of a rival team of youngsters squaring off against Stallone's "Dirty Dozen".

The most interesting aspect of this, beyond the idea of Han Solo bustin' caps next to Rambo, the Terminator, and Blade, is Willis' departure. Let's be honest, Willis hasn't exactly been choosey about what roles he takes, which makes the following tweet from Stallone about him all the more harsh...

Oof! Well, Willis has a handful of other franchises he can sleepwalk through and get like royalty for. And if all else fails, he and 50 Cent seem to have some sort of weird fondness for crappy straight-to-DVD flicks.

The Expendables 3 will be directed by Patrick Hughes and opens on August 15th 2014.
