Cameron Diaz, 'Transformers' and Kirk Cameron Lead 2015 Razzie Nominations

With the Academy Award nominations coming up as a celebration of the year's best films, it means the time is here to also "honor" the crappiest films to plague theaters. Yes, it's time for the annual Razzie Award nominations, when a group of mean-spirited folk swing at the low hanging fruit that are the most obviously terrible movies.

This year it's Cameron Diaz who comes out the big loser with three nominations (including Worst Actrss) for four different movies: The Other Woman, Sex Tape, and Annie, the last one they probably threw in just for the easy trifecta. Michael Bay's Transformers: Age of Extinction is obviously in the mix multiple times for Worst Movie, Worst Director, Worst Screen Combo, and Worst Screenplay. While sometimes these awards are around just to take cheap shots at celebs, it's hard to dispute the presence of Pompeii, Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas debacle, and The Legend of Hercules.

This year they're doing something different and offering the Redeemer Award to someone who has made a big screen comeback after stinking up the joint far too often. That list is actually pretty cool with Kristen Stewart, Ben Affleck, and Jennifer Aniston having made significant strides, at least according to the Razzie team.

The Razzie winners will be named on February 21st.

Razzie Awards: 'After Earth', 'Movie 43' Dishonored with 3 "Wins" Each

Many call the day of the Academy Awards the Super Bowl for movie fans, but for others it's like cinematic tax day. And those who are paying the price for their filmic indiscretions in 2013 are those responsible for inflicting After Earth and Movie 43 on us.

The Razzie Awards came out with their awards for the worst movies and performances of 2013, and *shocker* there's not an Adam Sandler sighting to be found. Instead, their wrath is aimed at another soft target: Will and Jaden Smith. Will took home Worst Actor for his performance in After Earth, with Jaden taking Worst Supporting Actor, and the pair dishonored with Worst Screen Ensemble. It's worth noting that the Razzies, which have become more pointless than ever as they aim for easy comedy targets that will gain them media attention, didn't recognize that Jaden was the lead actor in After Earth but it doesn't really matter.

If there's such a thing as the top Razzie awards, then Movie 43 took them all. The sketch comedy, which features an Oscar-worthy cast in a seemingly endless series of unfunny gross-out gags, earned Worst Movie, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Director awarded to all 13 directors who took part in making it happen. Other easy targets for the Razzies were the box office bomb, The Lone Ranger, and Kim Kardashian for her supporting appearance in Tyler Perry's Temptation. Full announcement is below, and I think this article in The Telegraph encapsulates why I think the Razzies are worthy of ridicule.

The results are in, the envelopes have been opened, and the "winners" of the 34th Awards have been unveiled in ceremonies held at Hollywood's coolest new venue — just down the street from Sunday night's Oscars — IgnitedSpaces. The hour long show handed out at least one statuette to four of the five Worst Picture nominees, but Adam Sandler and his unfunny follow up Grown Ups 2 went home empty-handed.

Taking three of the top awards was the star-studded, snicker-free sketch comedy Movie 43, which "won" for Worst Screenplay (written by at least 19 people), Worst Director ("credited" to 13 people), and Worst Picture. Tying with 43, and also "winning" 3 gold spray-painted trophies, was the Will and Jaden Smith sci-fi fiasco After Earth. Dad Will Smith took Worst Supporting Actor, son Jaden was named Worst Lead Actor, and the combination of father & son, described in the ceremony as being "stranded on Planet Nepotism", took the award for Worst Screen Combo.

Rounding out the names read when the envelopes were torn were: Tyler Perry (in drag) as Worst Actress for his 8th time playing the cross-dressing character in A Madea Christmas; Kim Kardashian in Tyler Perry's Temptation as Worst Supporting Actress; and the year's biggest box office bomb, a $250 million "reboot" of The Lone Ranger (on which Disney took a $200 million tax write off) which was chosen as Worst Remake/Rip-Off or Sequel.

31st Annual Razzie Award nominations

I ripped the Razzies pretty good a couple of weeks ago when a shortlist of their potential Worst Picture nominees was released. So how do I feel now that their picks for the worst of film in 2010 have been released? Pretty much the same.  Check out their nominations, along with a few comments from yours truly sprinkled in...

WORST PICTURETHE BOUNTY HUNTER (Columbia Pictures/Relativity Media)
THE LAST AIRBENDER (Paramount/Nickelodeon Movies)
SEX & THE CITY 2 (Warner Bros/New Line/HBO Pictures)
TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE (Summit Entertainment)
VAMPIRES SUCK (20th Century-Fox/Regency Enterprises)

Putting The Twilight Saga: Eclipse in there as one of the worst films of the year is a joke. You honestly mean to tell me that it was worse than Little Fockers or Yogi Bear? Get real. Eclipse was nominated a shocking 9 times overall.

WORST ACTORJack Black / GULLIVER’S TRAVELS
Gerard Butler / THE BOUNTY HUNTER
Ashton Kutcher / KILLERS and VALENTINE’S DAY
Taylor Lautner / TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE and VALENTINE’S DAY
Robert Pattinson / REMEMBER ME and TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE

Starting to think maybe they have a vendetta against the Twilight folks? Remember Me is not a very good flick but Pattinson is hardly that awful in it, and nominating Lautner for the 2 minutes he's on screen in Valentine's Day is ridiculous.

WORST ACTRESSJennifer Aniston / THE BOUNTY HUNTER and THE SWITCH
Mylie Cyrus / THE LAST SONG
Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis & Cynthia Nixon / SEX & THE CITY 2
Megan Fox / JONAH HEX
Kristen Stewart / TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE

I can't argue with Mylie or Megan in this one. Aniston's actually not that bad in The Switch, an underrated comedy that actually doesn't feature her all that much.

WORST SUPPORTING ACTRESSJessica Alba / THE KILLER INSIDE ME, LITTLE FOCKERS, MACHETE and VALENTINE’S DAYCher / BURLESQUE
Liza Minnelli / SEX & THE CITY 2
Nicola Peltz / THE LAST AIRBENDER
Barbra Streisand / LITTLE FOCKERS

There's our first Little Fockers sighting! Should be the first of many, which means it probably won't be.

WORST SUPPORTING ACTORBilly Ray Cyrus / THE SPY NEXT DOOR
George Lopez / MARMADUKE, THE SPY NEXT DOOR and VALENTINE’S DAYDev Patel / THE LAST AIRBENDERJackson Rathbone / THE LAST AIRBENDER and TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSERob Schneider / GROWN UPS

WORST EYE-GOUGING MIS-USE Of 3-D (Special Category for 2010!)CATS & DOGS #2: REVENGE OF KITTY GALORE
CLASH OF THE TITANS
THE LAST AIRBENDER
NUTCRACKER 3-D
SAW 3-D (aka SAW VII)

This one should go to Clash of the Titans, hands down. My eyes are still watering.

WORST SCREEN COUPLE / WORST SCREEN ENSEMBLEJennifer Aniston & Gerard Butler / THE BOUNTY HUNTERJosh Brolin’s Face & Megan Fox’s Accent / JONAH HEXThe Entire Cast of THE LAST AIRBENDERThe Entire Cast of SEX & THE CITY #2The Entire Cast of TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE

WORST DIRECTORJason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer / VAMPIRES SUCKMichael Patrick King / SEX & THE CITY #2M. Night Shyamalan / THE LAST AIRBENDERDavid Slade / TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSESylvester Stallone / THE EXPENDABLES

As much as I hate to say this, part of me kinda wants Sly to win this. Both because The Expendables was a massive disappointment and because if he actually showed up for the award it'd be hilarious to watch him slur through the speech.

WORST SCREENPLAYLAST AIRBENDER Written by M. Night Shyamalan, based on the TV series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Brian Konietzko
LITTLE FOCKERS, Written by John Hamburg and Larry Stuckey, based on Characters Created by Greg Glenna & Mary Roth Clarke

The Razzies Worst Picture contender shortlist

This might surprise some folks but I've never really liked The Golden Raspberry awards(known as The Razzies). The annual award (dis)honors the worst films and performances of the year, and usually takes place a day or so before the Academy Awards.  I think it's their voting method, which appears to emphasize only the most recognizable flicks and leaves out some truly deserving, heinous offerings.  A shortlist of the Worst Picture contenders for this year's awards has been released, and again I think they've left out some pretty obvious ones. The choices are...

Little Fockers
Sex and the City 2
The Expendables
Grown Ups
Clash of the Titans
Killers
The Bounty Hunter
Yogi Bear
Jonah Hex
The Last Airbender
Vampires Suck
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

For the record I had Jonah Hex, Little Fockers and Yogi Bear in my bottom 10 as well, but most of these choices are obvious obvious obvious and merely attempts to drum up interest. I dislike the Twilight series as much as anybody, but are you seriously going to tell me that Eclipse is one of the worst movies of the year? Uh, no. Let's be serious.  Where's The Back-Up Plan? Burlesque?

Is it possible for The Razzies to hand out an award to themselves? I think they finally deserve it.
