Charlie Hunnam Joins Margot Robbie in Romance 'The Mountain Between Us'

There have been some sweeping changes made to Fox's romance drama, The Mountain Between Us. Once set to star Michael Fassbender opposite Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street), with Gerardo Naranjo (Miss Bala) directing, the film has now undergone a seismic shift at the top. Both Fassbender and Naranjo are out, and while Robbie remains she'll be starring with Charlie Hunnam instead.

Hunnam has replaced Fassbender in the film, which will now be helmed by Academy Award-nominee Hany Abu-Assad (Paradise Now). Based on Charles Martin's book, which I've previously said sounds like the movie Six Days, Seven Nights, the story follows a doctor and soon-to-be-married woman who are stranded on an island after their charter flight crashes. Trapped in the wilderness they must survive the harsh elements and terrain, falling in love along the way.

So this may not be the film it once was without Fassbender, but Abu-Assad is a great director, and nobody's going to complain if they have to stare at Hunnam and Robbie for a couple of hours. [Deadline]

Rumor: Charlie Hunnam Eyed for Snake Plissken in 'Escape from New York' Remake

A remake of John Carpenter's Escape from New York has been in the works a long time with the only movement on it headed backwards. For a time it was New Line Cinema backing the project and names like Gerard Butler and Jeremy Renner were mentioned as possibilities to play Snake Plissken, the eye-patched anti-hero made famous by Kurt Russell. But now a new report says producer Joel Silver and Silver Productions, who have been in charge of this thing for awhile now, are nearing the pre-production stage and three names have emerged for the Plissken role.

According to Starlog, Charlie Hunnam, Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), and Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead) are on the list of potential stars, although none have been made an offer yet. Hunnam is supposedly the frontrunner but it doesn't seem possible he could fit a film like this into his schedule. He's already going to be busy with Pacific Rim 2 and he just came aboard Guy Ritchie's King Arthur franchise. As for Stevens, he made a case for how bad ass he can be in The Guest, and he's definitely a star on the rise. Bernthal has been busy since leaving The Walking Dead and will star alongside Brad Pitt in Fury. Out of the three he's the one I'd like to see get the role most as he's got the tough guy chops to pull it off.

This version will differ from the original by placing Plissken as part of a team of criminals with the other characters basically as co-stars rather than minor supporting players. He'll strike a deal with them to help save the President's life, and in return he'll help get them off the island prison...

Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.

So while concept art is apparently being drawn up it's still too early to start talking about a director. Considering how long Escape from New York has been getting shuffled around it's probably best to give the side eye to any stories talking about its progression.  When Silver first picked up the film he had planned it as a trilogy but that seems like a far-fetched notion at this point.

Charlie Hunnam Rejoins Idris Elba for 'King Arthur'; Elizabeth Olsen in Talks

He may be wrapping up the final season of FX's Sons of Anarchy, but Charlie Hunnam won't be hurting for anything to do afterwards. He's already got one franchise to call his own in Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim, and now Guy Ritchie has chosen him to be his King Arthur.

Hunnam is in final talks to rejoin his Pacific Rim co-star Idris Elba in the medieval action flick, and reports are that Elizabeth Olsen is in talks for the female lead. Elba signed on awhile back to play a Merlin-esque character named Bedivere, which begs the question why they don't just make him Merlin. And if the film is a hit then screenwriter Joby Harold may be busy because the plan is for this to be the start of a six-film franchise.

King Arthur is set to open on July 22nd 2016.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, Casey Affleck, and Michael B. Jordan in Talks for 'Triple Nine'

Whatever criticisms one may have regarding John Hillcoat's Lawless, or any of his prior films for that matter, one thing he's always been able to do is piece together a great cast. He's slowly but steadily been doing the same for his long-brewing cop thriller, Triple Nine, and last summer we saw Charlie Hunnam come in to replace Shia LaBeouf, with Cate Blanchett and Christoph Waltz coming aboard. Now there's been some more shuffling at the top, but it also brings along two potential Oscar contenders.

Charlie Hunnam has now left the film, to be replaced by Casey Affleck who has had one heck of a year with Ain't them Bodies Saints and Out of the Furnace. He may be joined by Fruitvale Station star Michael B. Jordan and Chiwetel Ejiofor of 12 Years a Slave, both figuring pretty heavily in the Best Actor race. The Black List-approved script by Matt Cook will have Affleck as a young and honorable LA cop who is marked for death by his crooked colleagues in order to distract from a heist they're planning. Jordan will play a good cop working with Affleck to infiltrate the group, while Ejiofor is a criminal behind the heist.

Sweet casting all around, and with Nick Cave likely to hook Hillcoat up with another fantastic score there's every reason to think Triple Nine will be something special. Filming is expected to begin next year.  [TheWrap]

Alexander Skarsgard and Theo James Among Those Rumored for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

Just when you thought the Fifty Shades of Grey rumor-mongering was done, Charlie Hunnam had to go and ruin everything. Hunnam had secured the lead role of Christian Grey in Sam Taylor-Johnson's adaptation of the best-selling smut novel, and with Dakota Johnson on board as Anastasia Steele all was ready to go. But just as production was about to begin in mere days, Hunnam dropped out and now it's basically back to square one. Cue the role call of candidates!

According to THR, True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, Jamie Dornan of U.K. series The Fall, Divergent star Theo James, and Christian Cooke (Romeo and Juliet) are said to be in the mix, with producers basically going back to the original drawing board in plucking out these names. If this goes like the last round of casting went we can probably expect to see more random names pop up. Anybody throw Russell Crowe's name out there yet? Oh, yep, there it is. It's going to get ridiculous, ya'll.

Speaking of ridiculous, there are conflicting theories going around about the reason for Hunnam's departure. THR suggests the problem could be the script by Kelly Marcel, which had enough problems that Patrick Marber (Closer) was hired to give it a polish. But other sources say that's not a big deal and not the real issue. The studio talking point is that Hunnam left due to scheduling conflicts with hit FX series Sons of Anarchy, but US Magazine claims the actor never wanted to do the movie at all. A source says...

"Charlie Hunnam was never going to do Fifty Shades of Grey. He told his agents from the beginning he didn't want to do it and was going to pull out."

And yet another source tells them it was definitely a scheduling problem. The point is that the speculation is going to be running wild for a few weeks until Focus Features gets this thing locked down and in front of cameras next month. Otherwise it's going to be tough to meet the August 1st 2014 release date.

Charlie Hunnam Exits 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Due to Busy Schedule

After months of rumors, speculation, fan outcries and more, Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam were chosen to star in Focus/Universal's adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. They would be taking on the sought-after roles of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the erotic thriller, and with Sam Taylor-Johnson on board to direct it looked like the film was finally moving forward with filming to begin next month. But now they'll have to start the search for a new lead actor as Hunnam has dropped out, supposedly because of his schedule on FX's Sons of Anarchy. Here is the statement issued by Universal...

“The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

It's possible this is just a "saving face" maneuver on the part of the studio, and perhaps by Hunnam as well. As Deadline notes, all of the scheduling issues were ironed out before he signed on, so that shouldn't be a problem now. It's possible he realized how a film like this could have done as much damage to his career as good, and decided it was better to be safe than sorry.

At this point, Johnson and the recently added Jennifer Ehle are still ready to go, and producers will be scrambling to find a replacement. Let the speculation begin anew. Fifty Shades of Grey is set to open August 1st 2014.

Charlie Hunnam is Christian Grey, Dakota Johnson is Anastasia Steele in 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

After more than a year of speculation, rumors, supposed confirmations, and other talk that never amounted to much of anything, Universal has finally decided who will take the sought-after roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in their adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. After rumors surfaced last month that Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson of 21 Jump Street were on the studio's radar, Universal has now issued a statement confirming both are now strapped in for the lead roles. And yep, that's an intentional S&M joke. Whomp.

The news has since been backed up by a tweet by author E.L. James, whose saucy novel began as Twilight fan-fiction and has since skyrocketed to the top of the bestseller charts. It follows the dangerous, erotic BDSM relationship between billionaire Christian Grey (Hunnam) and the sexually inexperienced Anastasia Steele (Johnson). The other two books in the trilogy, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, will presumably be next if this one proves to be the hit Universal expects it to be.

Hunnam is a star on the rise, having just played the heroic lead in Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim. He also has a role in the director's upcoming ghost story, Crimson Peak. Johnson is coming off the recently-canceled sitcom Ben and Kate, and is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. She's had a couple of scene-stealing performances in The Social Network, 21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement, but this is obviously the biggest part of her career.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey is expected to hit on August 1st 2014.

Charlie Hunnam the Latest Rumored for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

After what seems like every name in Hollywood mentioned at one point or another to star in Fifty Shades of Grey, the flurry of rumors suddenly came to a halt once Sam Taylor-Johnson came aboard as director. It's possible that producers have decided to stop putting feelers out on the Internet to see who fans prefer (you know that's what they were doing) for the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, and have begun to start taking things a little more seriously. And at least if the latest story is true, they've already got their sights set on an actor who helped save the world this summer.

The latest name to emerge for the Christian Grey role in the "mommy porn" adaptation is Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam, who Twitch says is producers' "prime target". Hunnam and his chiseled bod join a list of other possible contenders that have included Armie Hammer, Michael Fassbender (seriously), Garrett Hedlund, Ian Somerhalder and more. So who would Hunnam be enforcing his sexual dominance over, exactly? Actresses up for Anastasia Steele have included Emma Watson, Shailene Woodley, Felicity Jones, and most recently Alicia Vikander, but nothing seems close to being confirmed at this point.

To those unfamiliar with the novel it may come as a surprise that there are...*shocker*...other characters besides the two we keep hearing about. Digital Spy says that model and Anna Karenina actress Cara Delevingne has auditioned for a supporting role that may have been written just for her.

'50 Shades' casting gets debated more than Marvel movies, yet isn't nearly as interesting. I'll be happy when they just decide and get this shit over with. Still no word on when filming begins but producers are eying an August 2014 release.

Charlie Hunnam Joins John Hillcoat's 'Triple Nine'; Cate Blanchett and Christoph Waltz in Talks

Lawless director John Hillcoat had been set to reteam with Shia LaBeouf on his next film, a cop thriller titled Triple Nine. Filming should have already taken place on it, but it never happened and LaBeouf is now out, but the good news is that he's been replaced by Pacific Rim star, Charlie Hunnam.

The title refers to the police code for when an officer is in immediate need of assistance, and the script by Matt Cook centers on a group of corrupt cops who must shoot one of their own to distract from a heist they're pulling off elsewhere. Hunnam would play the young, honorable cop they choose as their victim. As if the film didn't already sound promising, Christoph Waltz is in talks to play Hunnam's uncle who also happens to be on the force; and Cate Blanchett could take the juice role of the mobster's wife who is really pulling all of the strings.

Filming is expected to begin by the end of the year, as Hunnam must tackle Guillermo Del Toro's Crimson Peak in early 2014.

Review: 'Pacific Rim', Directed by Guillermo Del Toro

While it's preferable to leave aside the movie politics and the Internet hype that surrounds any film, it's tough to do that with a summer blockbuster the size of Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim. To put it bluntly, a lot of people have saddled his sci-fi juggernaut with a ton of expectations, some good and some not so good, that are unfair in a number of different ways. Whether it's the negative and vastly out of whack notion that it's little more than a Transformers knock-off, or that it's the most important original property in ages and must be supported (lest it flop like analysts project), it's tough to not walk into the film without some opinion already formed about it.

The simple truth of the matter is that Pacific Rim is way smarter than Transformers, and even though it's not the most original of concepts, through sheer size, scope, and audacity it stomps every other summer blockbuster flat. Nothing else compares to the gargantuan Colossus-inspired scale of giant monsters slugging it out with equally massive robots. It's truly impressive what Del Toro, who just a few years ago was the guy who made really cool creatures for Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth, can do when his imagination is allowed to run unfettered. So even if the script co-written by Del Toro and Travis Beacham, riffs on many familiar war movie tropes and takes liberally from the likes of Top Gun, the line of American movies that look anything close to Pacific Rim is extremely short. Which is to say the line doesn't exist at all.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Robotech, Gundam, Voltron, and other Japanese pop cultural phenomenon, Del Toro lovingly and enthusiastically lets his geek flag fly. What's more, this isn't just a blind clashing of clunky robots with all of the grace of a garbage compactor. Pacific Rim is gorgeous, glittery, and the over-sized battles choreographed with operatic precision. Under any other director's hands this could have been a logistical nightmare, at worse an ugly assault on the senses, but Del Toro is always in complete control.

Less promising is the storyline itself, and the lack of human characterization that gets lost while you're in awe watching a Jaeger wield a battleship like a katana. A brilliant intro clues us in to the fate befalling humanity in the near future, when towering creatures known as Kaiju began emerging from a rift in the ocean floor, destroying coastal cities and wiping out the population. To fight the threat, the world's governments put aside all of their petty differences and began the Jaeger program creating skyscraper-sized robotic warriors to combat the Kaiju. In full-on Maverick mode, Charlie Hunnam plays Raleigh Beckett, a hot shot Jaeger pilot whose reckless stunts got his brother killed, forcing him out of the program just when he's needed most. Six years later, the Kaiju are stronger than ever, and the governments have grown tired of funding the failing program. But that doesn't sit well with the awesomely-named General Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba), who decides to round up his few remaining Jaegers and mount one final assault. To do it, he'll need Raleigh back, and he'll also need his old washed-up Jaeger to be brought back from the scrap heap.  Because every story like this needs them, there are a couple of goofball scientists (Charlie Day and Burn Gorman) to provide comic relief and explain things. There's also the General's troubled right-hand woman, Mako Mori (Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi), who shares a past with the General nobody knows about.

So you have all of the familiar archetypes in place, and it's impossible to escape the fact that some aspects of the film are riddled with clichés. Raleigh needs to learn how to be a team player and put his ego aside, and as he does so he squabbles with a fellow pilot (Rob Kazinsky) who has a chip on his shoulder. Mako has vengeance on her mind but must overcome her fears to ever have a real chance at it. We've seen it all before, but there's nothing really wrong with that, and in some ways it’s comforting that the script bothers to make this a story about humans as much as it is about monster brawls. The simple story also leaves plenty of room for a few brilliant ideas to take root. The best by far involves the Jaeger pilots needing to form a neural bridge and meld minds to fight effectively. It involves the unrestrained sharing of memories, can make or break a partnership real fast. The Kaiju design, mostly taken from various forms of lizard and aquatic animal life, draws from the story's other surprising idea. It’s probably left unspoiled, but Del Toro and Beacham clearly put a lot of thought into why the Kaiju look the way they do. And of course, at times of tragedy there are always those seeking to make a dollar from it. Enter the gruff and eccentric Ron Perlman as a black market dealer and Kaiju aficionado. Most of the performances are functional at best, with Hunnam only coming to life when he's throwing punches. Elba is as cool and authoritative as ever, but his Braveheart-esque "we're canceling the apocalypse" speech feels forced and uninspired.

This is Del Toro's show, though, and he does a masterful job of creating a sense of awe around every single Kaiju encounter. They're so huge that we never see one in full, but we can see of them is spectacular. The mecha design is even better, with each Jaeger adopting traits specific for their locale. The American 'bot Gipsy Danger has an Art Deco model reminiscent of New York skyscrapers, while the Japanese one will have Robotech fans salivating. Most of the fights take place at night, but even with 3D it never gets murky or tough to follow. The amount of destruction would give Man of Steel a run for its money, but unlike Zack Snyder's film it never slips into repetition.

Clearly, Pacific Rim has a very specific target audience, and it mostly consists of folks who are packing their bags for Comic-Con right now.  But those who pass it by because they think it will be too geeky will be missing out on what is definitely the biggest movie of the summer. It may not be perfect in the way it handles characters, but Pacific Rim is fun, epic, exhilarating, and the reason why we get excited for this time of year.

New Posters and Final Trailer for 'Pacific Rim'

If the spectacle of Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim hasn't won you over by now, chances are it won't before the film hits theaters next week. But for those who are chomping at the bit for the giant Kaiju vs. kung-fu Jaeger action, the final trailer offers up something a little different.

While there's still a great deal of action, ramped up to in a relatively slow burn, the focus is squarely on the human pilots. It becomes clear that there will be a great deal more than just geeky sci-fi theatrics, and building believable characters is another crucial element. We learn a bit more about the nature of the neural link between the pilots, and the deeper their trust in one another the more in sync they'll be with their Jaeger. Expect to see a great deal of bonding time between Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi, and not just when she's kicking his butt in the training room. Also released are a pair of one-sheets, featuring the Australian Jaeger Strike Eureka, and the Kaiju known as Leatherback.

Pacific Rim co-stars Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Clifton Collins Jr., and arrives on July 12th.

Elbow Rockets and Ron Perlman In Two New 'Pacific Rim' Clips

The arrival of the monstrous Kaiju in Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim isn't just the impetus for humanity to finally unite as one against a common foe, but it's also opened the door for some to make a profit. Not unlike Jude Law's character in Contagion, I guess, there will always be those looking to capitalize off of tragedy. Two new clips from Pacific Rim show very different sides of the robots vs. monsters flick, but both give a fuller picture of what to expect.

The first highlights what looks like one of the centerpiece battles as Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi slug it out with a giant Godzilla-esque Kaiju in the city streets, hitting it with everything at their disposal including a devastating "elbow rocket" punch.  The second centers on the characters played by Ron Perlman and Charlie Day, with the latter looking to acquire a Kaiju brain for some top secret experimenting. Probably not for a good cause. We also learn that the Kaiju may be genetically linked to dinosaurs.

Pacific Rim opens in 3D, 2D, and IMAX on July 12th.

Hand to Hand Combat Ensues in First Clips From 'Pacific Rim'

Besides looking visually awesome (have you seen those massive robots?), Pacific Rim also has some character conflict to round out what looks to be a fantastic-looking film. Two clips from the film have been released for everyone's viewing pleasure. If it isn't clear from the trailers what to expect from Pacific Rim, then these clips definitely give us a better look.

Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) and Idris Elba (28 Weeks Later) have an argument in the first clip and Elba is quick to put Hunnam in his place and show him who's boss. Elba's authority is unmistakable and you can almost see a hint of rebellion in Hunnam.

The second clip gives us a fighting scene between Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel). Hunnam promises not to go easy on her and Kikuchi rises to the challenge, beating him in the end just to show him she doesn't need to be coddled. In turn, Hunnam chooses her as his co-pilot.

More footage will begin appearing as we close in on the film's release date, but until then, enjoy the clips below!

New Trailer and Images From 'Pacific Rim'

A new trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim has been released, giving us yet another look at what could be the special effects spectacle of the season with giant glittering robots battling monsters that fill up the entire screen. This particular trailer, titled "At the Edge" emphasizes a couple of other aspects, as well, namely that there's plenty of geeky science talk involving the creation of the robotic Jaegers, and that Idris Elba will spend much of his screen time as the bearer of rousing patriotic Braveheart-esque speeches.

The phrase "neural handshake" is repeated often, and while it's unclear exactly what it is, the name suggests its how the two human pilots bridge their minds to control the Jaeger warriors. Hopefully they don't spend too much time breaking down all of the fine details, and get right down to leveling some more cities. There's plenty of gloriously-constructed destruction here, backed by Elba's rallying of the troops: “At the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other.  Today there’s not a man or woman in here that shall stand alone.  Today we face the monsters that are at our door.  Today we are cancelling the apocalypse!” Well I'm ready to fight, how about you?

It's hard to believe it's been a full year since the first unfinished footage was revealed at Comic-Con. I remember being stunned by it then, and the crowd was equally amazed. So to say my expectations for this are high would be a huge understatement.

Pacific Rim opens on July 12th.

The latest 'Pacific Rim' trailer delivers incredible Jaeger vs. Kaiju action

In a blockbuster summer that has iron men battling wolverines and men of steel, Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim stands as potentially the biggest of them all. In terms of size, scope, and sheer "holy cow" levels of widescale action, it doesn't look like anything can compete with Del Toro's giant robots vs. giant monsters mash-up. But at the same time, without a big name headliner there's always the chance it falls between the cracks during a crowded season. While those concerns are probably warranted, when Warner Bros. drops a trailer as awesome as this one, it's pretty easy to see how this could stomp all of those superhero movies flat.

Jamming as much incredible action as possible in a cool 2 1/2 minutes, this looks like Del Toro has decided to fulfill the cinematic dreams of every fan of Japanese pop culture. You want awe-inspiring robotic warfare on an almost unimaginable level? Del Toro appears to be delivering it in spades. But there is a shimmering golden beauty as the massive Jaegers rumble with their Kaiju enemies in the lit up city streets, and it becomes apparent that this is one beautifully choreographed piece of work. The trailer gives us a bit more detail on the Kaiju's true nature, but this is really about showing off the many bells and whistles Pacific Rim is armed with.

Starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman, Pacific Rim opens on July 12th.

New trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim' is 2500 tons of awesome

Is it possible that Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim is being looked over just a little bit as we turn the corner into the summer blockbuster season? Maybe it's just a by-product of Warner Bros. putting all of their marketing eggs in the Man of Steel basket, but for whatever reason it seems like Del Toro's giant monsters vs. giant robots flick is flying a little bit under the radar. For the most part, Del Toro has chosen to keep the monsters, known a kaiju, hidden in fog, only teasing at their massive scope. But the latest trailer does away with all of that and reveals the monster vs. robot action is going to be truly epic.

The footage premiered for WonderCon and CinemaCon attendees, but now it's been made available to the rest of us, and we're all much better off for it. Revealing deeper looks at the origins of the human Jaeger program, which involves two humans mind-melding so as to pilot one of the gigantic robots, we're also treated to Charlie Day as the token science nerd ("2500 tons of awesome"), and Idris Elba as the inspirational leader of the resistance. But most importantly, this shows off just how much mayhem Del Toro is planning to put on display, from rip-roaring sea battles to aerial destruction, and yeah, that was a jaeger using a battleship as a friggin' sword! Guh! Geek juices are flowing!

Pacific Rim finally arrives on July 12th, starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, and Ron Perlman.

Does Warner Bros. see Charlie Hunnam as The Flash?

Guillermo Del Toro and Warner Bros. are really getting along famously right now, with wildly positive buzz on his Pacific Rim coming from the studio. They've already moved forward with his horror film, Crimson Peak, and development seems to be moving along faster on his paranormal superhero film, Dark Justice, than on Justice League. All of the Del Toro may have spread to those he's been working with most closely, like Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam.

Even though development of a Justice League is in a holding pattern until Man of Steel hits this summer, CHUD reports that some early concept art is beginning to be produced. In these images, The Flash is being modeled as if Hunnam were in the suit. This is could mean absolutely nothing at all, or it could mean a whole lot. It's not uncommon for art to be produced with a specific actor in mind, especially if he's being considered for the role.  All one need to do is go back and check out the recent renditions of The Crow back when Bradley Cooper was circling the reboot. There's no doubt that Warner Bros. likes Hunnam a lot right now, and they've set him to lead Crimson Peak alongside Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain, and Benedict Cumberbatch. One has to wonder if Del Toro isn't considering him for Dark Justice, as well. He'd make for a spot on John Constantine.

At the same time, the artist may just be a really big fan of Hunnam and like him for the part. There are so many questions still swirling around the future of Justice League that it seems unlikely that they'd be talking casting beyond the big three of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. A Flash solo film had been brewing for awhile, so it's possible that remains a long term goal.

Whatever happens, Warner Bros. is clearly anxious to keep Hunnam under their umbrella. We'll see why they're so excited when Pacific Rim opens on July 12th.
