New Trailer for Shakespeare Thriller 'Anarchy' formerly 'Cymbaline'

I guess producers of the film Anarchy figured audiences wouldn't latch on to the previous title, Cymbeline, even though it's based on the pretty well-known Shakespeare play. Apparently that's not enough, although a boring title like Anarchy probably isn't going to help much. In any case, it takes the Bard's work and throws in a bunch of badass biker gangs, so maybe some folks will think it's an episode of Sons of Anarchy?

Directed by Michael Almereyda and starring Ethan Hawke, Milla Jojovich, Anton Yelchin, Ed Harris, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson, and more, the film depicts an epic struggle between dirty cops and a biker gang in a corrupt version of America.

Anarchy hits VOD and theaters on March 13th.

Steamy New Trailer for 'Fifty Shades of Grey' starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson

Let's talk about synergy for a moment, because tonight saw a two perfectly sleazy guilty pleasures working together in perfect harmony. During tonight's episode of ABC's provocative water cooler series Scandal, the brand new trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey debuted to the perfect audience, one that was no doubt waiting anxiously to see it.

Starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson, the adaptation of E.L. James' steamy novel follows the sordid sexual encounters between the inexperienced Anastasia Steele and handsome, possessive billionaire Christian Grey. How explicit is this film version going to get compared to the books, which push enough boundaries that some might be begging for a safe word? That's hard to say, but we know there won't be any frontal nudity from the stars. Makes sense if they want this to remain tame enough that teen girls can attend with their moms. Awkward.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey opens February 13th 2015.

New Poster and Teaser for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

Call your mom! The latest trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey arrives tomorrow, but before then we're treated to this brand new poster featuring Dakota Johnson, plus a brief TV promo. Is biting her lip something Anastasia Steele does frequently in the books or something? My guess is that it's meant to be a sign of her sexual innocence, right? Anyway, fans eager to see Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan getting hot and steamy will have to make due with this for now.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey arrives on February 13th 2015.

SYNOPSIS: Fifty Shades of Grey is the hotly anticipated film adaptation of the bestselling book that has become a global phenomenon. Since its release, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has been translated into 51 languages worldwide and sold more than 100 million copies in e-book and print—making it one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever. Stepping into the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, who have become iconic to millions of readers, are Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Joining Dornan and Johnson in the cast are Luke Grimes as Elliot, Christian’s brother; Victor Rasuk as José, Anastasia’s close friend; Eloise Mumford as Kate, Anastasia’s best friend and roommate; Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Christian’s mother; Rita Ora as Mia, Christian’s sister; Max Martini as Taylor, Christian’s bodyguard; Callum Keith Rennie as Ray, Anastasia’s stepfather; Jennifer Ehle as Carla, Anastasia’s mother; and Dylan Neal as Bob, Carla’s husband. Fifty Shades of Grey is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti alongside E L James, the creator of the series. The screenplay for the film is by Kelly Marcel.

New Trailer and Clip for 'Cymbeline' is Shakespeare meets 'Sons of Anarchy'

Back in 2000 Michael Almereyda and Ethan Hawke teamed up on a sharp, contemporary version of Hamlet, back when it was chic to bring a modern spin to the Bard's classic stories. And now the duo are back at it again after all these years with Cymbeline, taking one of Shakespeare's lesser-known works and refashioning it into something that looks like an episode of Sons of Anarchy.

Debuting at the Venice Film Festival a few days ago and recently acquired by Lionsgate's Grindstone Entertainment, a new trailer and clip have been released for the Shakespearean adaptation, one that features automatic weapons and biker gangs. Hawke stars alongside a packed cast that includes Ed Harris, Milla Jovovich, John Leguizamo, Penn Badgley, Dakota Johnson, and Anton Yelchin. It's interesting to see Leguizamo in this since he was a part of Baz Luhrmann's  Romeo + Juliet, and this film seems to be following along those same lines. Set in a corrupted America, the story follows the war between a biker gang and dirty cops, with a pair of lovers stuck in the middle, of course.

Cymbeline is expected to be released theatrically and VOD some time next spring.

John Goodman Eyes 'Trumbo'; Dakota Johnson Makes 'A Bigger Splash'; Elisabeth Moss is 'Queen of Earth'

Just as Breaking Bad was coming to a close, Bryan Cranston became attached to a new feature film on blacklisted screenwriter Dalton Trumbo. Helen Mirren came aboard the film soon after, and now it looks as if John Goodman will be joining them. Goodman is in talks to play Hollywood producer Frank King in the film, currently titled Trumbo, which Jay Roach (Game Change) is directing. Trumbo was once the most sought-after screenwriter in Hollywood until he was targeted by Senator Joseph McCarthy's witch hunt in the House Un-American Activities Committee. [TheWrap]

Dakota Johnson has been piling on one new project after another, capitalizing on that Fifty Shades of Grey fame she's getting. She's now caught the attention of Italian director Luca Guadagnino (I Am Love), who has tapped her for his new thriller, A Bigger Splash. This is the same film we learned about a few months ago that stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Margot Robbie, Tilda Swinton, and Ralph Fiennes. Turns out it's a remake of Jacques Deray's 1969 crime flick, La Piscine, which centered on a vacationing couple and the uneasy love triangle that emerges with a much younger woman. Variety's report fails to mention Schoenearts and Robbie so they may have exited the film.

Elisabeth Moss will star in Queen of Earth, a reunion with her Listen Up Philip director, Alex Ross Perry. Produced by Joe Swanberg (Drinking Buddies) and penned by Perry, the psychological thriller is described as similar to Rosemary's Baby and Repulsion, centering on "two women who retreat to a beach house to get a break from the pressures of the outside world, only to realize how disconnected from each other they have become, allowing their suspicions to bleed into reality." Listen Up Philip was one of the most acclaimed movies at Sundance earlier this year, so expect Perry and Moss' follow-up to have a lot of eyes on it. [THR]

Get Hot for the First 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Trailer Starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson

"I exercise control in all things, Ms. Steele".

"That must get pretty boring".

"Boring" is probably not what millions of readers of E.L. James' best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey would call the erotic relationship between millionaire bad boy Christian Grey and student Anastasia Steele. The book has been nothing less than a phenomenon that boomed well beyond its fairly humble Twilight fan-fic roots, and to say there have been a lot of anxious people awaiting this first trailer would be understatement. So does it deliver? Check it out for yourself because it is finally here.

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson won the two lead roles after months of exhaustive casting that saw many bigger names rumored. The story, penned by Kelly Marcel and directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, follows the steamy, sexual encounters between the domineering Grey and the inexperienced Steele. Whether mainstream audiences unfamiliar with the books will show up for all of the bondage escapades that await remains to be seen, but there's already such a built-in fanbase that it may not matter. Johnson and Dornan have already begun to blow up in popularity (just as Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson did), and with the sequel Fifty Shades Darker already in the works these movies may be around for awhile.

Personally, I think the trailer is kind of cheap and low rent, but its clearly not looking to hook ME.

Fifty Shades of Grey opens February 13th 2015.

Beyonce Uses "Crazy in Love" to Tease 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Trailer

Once thought to be delayed until September, we recently found out the Fifty Shades of Grey trailer will be arriving this month, specifically next Thursday. But one of the privileges of being a celebrity like Beyonce is you get to see things before everybody else, and the superstar singer has used Instagram to reveal a brief teaser for the trailer, set to a slowed down, breathy version of "Crazy in Love".

Along with the altered version of Beyonce hit single, things to keep an eye out for are (presumably) the strict hands of Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey, and (presumably) the anxious thighs of Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. The S&M drama is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and is based on the worldwide best-seller by E.L. James, following the erotic relationship between the billionaire Grey and the sexually-inexperienced Steele.

Also starring Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Rita Ora, Marcia Gay Harden and Callum Keith Rennie, Fifty Shades of Grey opens February 13th 2015.

Dakota Johnson is 'Forever, Interrupted'; Douglas Smith Joins 'Terminator'; Kate Beckinsale Enters 'The Disappointments Room'

* Dakota Johnson is reaping the benefits of starring in Fifty Shades of Grey, as she's now developing her own separate projects. She's set to produce and star in Forever, Interrupted, an adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's book about a woman who must come to grips with the sudden death of her loving husband, a man she eloped with after a whirlwind romance. Part of that is learning to forge a connection with his mother, who she never knew existed.

* Douglas Smith (Big Love, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters) has joined Alan Taylor's Terminator reboot in an unspecified role. Filming is currently underway with Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jai Courtney starring. Look for it to open on July 1st 2015. [Deadline]

* D.J. Caruso has landed Kate Beckinsale for the lead in The Disappointments Room, a psycho-thriller and ghost story that is being compared to The Shining. The apparently true story follows Dana (Beckinsale) her  husband, and 5-year-old son who move into their dream home only to discover a secret room hidden in the attic. When unexplained events lead her to unlocking the room, she unleashes  "a host of unimaginable horrors that reveal the house’s past is terrifyingly tied with her own".

Dakota Johnson Joins 'Black Mass'; Jeremy Irons and Jonathan Rhys Meyers Find 'The Secret Scripture'

* By this time next year Dakota Johnson could be a huge star for playing Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey. And we've seen a number of producers jumping on the bandwagon early by casting her in their upcoming films. Johnson has joined Johnny Depp, Joel Edgerton, and Guy Pearce in Black Mass. The Whitey Bulger biopic is directed by Scott Cooper and centers on the infamous Boston mobster and FBI informant who was a fugitive from justice for more than a decade. Johnson will play Bulger's girlfriend, Lindsay, the mother of his 6-year-old son. Johnson can be seen in theaters now in Need for Speed. [Deadline]

* Jeremy Irons and Jonathan Rhys Meyers are joining an adaptation of The Secret Scripture, which already has Jessica Chastain and Vanessa Redgrave starring. Johnny Ferguson is adapting Sebastian Barry's award-winning novel which follows two contradictory narratives in order to uncover the truth about a 100-year-old mental patient. Meyers has been keeping busy on NBC's Dracula, while Irons recently agreed to play Alfred Pennyworth in Man of Steel 2. [The Independent]

Review: 'Need for Speed' Starring Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, and Imogen Poots

After years of cheering on Vin Diesel leap from speeding muscle cars, survive deadly crashes, and shift gears a thousand times over in the Fast and the Furious franchise, do we really have the right to criticize Need for Speed for....well, anything? Of course this blazing, pedal-smashing adaptation of the best-selling video game strains credulity and cares more about shredding tires than building characters, it also has enough breathtaking race action to cross the finish line with some style.

Need for Speed is a straight up revenge tale; more in league with the early F&F films before they shifted into heist gear. Directed by ex-stuntman Scott Waugh and starring Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul, any thought of plot complexity goes up like a puff of exhaust fumes within moments. Paul plays badass racer Tobey Marshall, who with his close-knit crew of pals (Rami Malek, Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, and Harrison Gilbertson) run a floundering but respected body shop in town. When arrogant ex-NASCAR tough guy Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper) shows up in town with an offer to rebuild a legendary ride, it's an offer Tobey can't resist. Unfortunately it also leads to a showdown between the two, who share a past beefin' over the same woman (Fifty Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson). A dangerous race in souped up cars leads to Dino killing the most earnest and innocent of Tobey's friends, framing him for the accident.

Two years later and out on parole, Tobey is looking for vengeance, the kind of vengeance that only comes from behind the wheel. The only way to do that is to gather his remaining team, score the fastest car on the planet, and enter the Deleon, a dangerous race for the world's best drivers. The race is put on by recluse Monarch (Michael Keaton, kind of fun but clearly high on something), who has a street racing podcast run out of his living room. Doesn't sound like the type of guy to hold such amazing sway, but there ya go. Putting the old crew back together is easy, topped off by a hilarious job quitting scene by Malek, who after his scene-stealing performance in Short Term 12 is becoming a terrific character actor. Finding a car proves to be no problem for Tobey, either, thanks to Julia (Imogen Poots), the quirky English gal who negotiated the deal for Dino and Tobey's hyped up car. Together they race across the country to find the location of the big race, all the while avoiding keystone cops and surviving mercenaries looking to cash in on the bounty Dino has placed on Tobey's head.

You'll be shocked, no doubt, to learn that the relationship between Tobey and Julia starts off antagonistic, only to give way to the flashing blinkers of love. They're actually quite a fun pair, even if the role seems a step beneath Poots. She's just feisty enough to match up nicely with the ever-intense Paul, who makes for more an action lead than a romantic one. The real stand-out here is Waugh, who co-directed the "real" military thriller Act of Valor a couple of years ago. He's more in his element directing cars rather than people, and he made the brilliant decision to use real cars, real stuntmen, and real blazing speed in every action sequence. Don't bother looking for any CGI because there isn't any, and it's a decision that adds a real urgency and momentum to every jaw-dropping sequence. Keeping car chases and smash 'em up collisions fresh is never easy but Waugh pulls it off easily. If Need for Speed continues on as a franchise, not a sure thing just yet, Waugh could prove to be as integral to it as any member of the cast.

Need for Speed isn't going to change the negative perception of video game movies, which is fine because it doesn't seem to have any aspirations other than to be a dumb, fun action flick. It may be the less starry, less flashy cousin of F&F, but there's plenty of room for both to exist.

Celebrate Valentine's Day with New Image from 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

In case you forgot or have blocked it out of mind, today is Valentine's Day. And while we have a pretty good short list of weird movies to check out this lovers' holiday, in exactly one year from today women will be tying up their significant others and dragging them to see Fifty Shades of Grey. Emphasis on "tying up".

To celebrate, Focus Features has unveiled a brand new image from the film, and it appears to be of Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele when she first encounters Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), her future partner in bondage.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey co-stars Jennifer Ehle, Victor Rasuk, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford, Max Martini, Rita Ora, Marcia Gay Harden and Callum Keith Rennie.

The Teen Sex Genre Takes a New Twist in 'Date and Switch'

I would imagine that the okedoke this trailer pulled on me was pretty much what the filmmakers intended, it also explains the title. As you'll see in the below trailer we start with what has become the teen comedy template...two guys, Matty and Micheal, who have one thing on their mind, sex. Then the left turn, Matty tells Michael that he's gay in one of the most hilarious and, probably, realistic dialogues we've seen in a teen comedy. What follows is actually quite heartwarming...and awkwardly hilarious, as Michael stands by Matty as he explores his newly found gay culture....while simultaneously trying to court Matty's old girlfriend. Times were different when I was in high school, so I don't know how "out there" the premise is, but I would imagine that this is something today's youth is seeing more of so it's really cool to see it addressed in a not so heavy way.

Date and Switch hits theaters February 14th, 2014

First Trailer and Poster for 'Cymbeline' Starring Ethan Hawke, Anton Yelchin, & Milla Jojovich

Just a couple of years after Ralph Fiennes took William Shakespeare's Coriolanus and turned it into a pretty gritty modern day drama, Ethan Hawke and his Hamlet director Michael Almereyda are doing the same thing with Cymbeline. Shakespeare's tragic tale of a war between the Romans and Celts have been dirtied up into a violent battle full of biker gangs, corrupt crime lords, and lots of heavy firepower.

Rounding up an impressive crew that includes Ed Harris, Anton Yelchin, Dakota Johnson, Milla Jojovich, and Penn Badgley, the first trailer packs a lot of shady characters and explosive action. No wonder it's already having some compare it to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet.  What's most impressive is the speed which Almereyda put this together, as it seems like only yesterday that the film was announced and already there's a considerable chunk of footage here and a new poster to go with it. Production began late last summer and this one's definitely on the fast track, although it has yet to gain U.S. distribution.

Aaron Paul Races for Revenge in New 'Need for Speed' Trailer

If Aaron Paul has anything to look forward to after Need for Speed, it may be that every story written about him won't be preceded with the words 'Breaking Bad' or 'Jesse Pinkman'. For now Paul remains an untested leading man headlining a potential franchise based on a video game, so the jury is very much out on this one as the latest trailer crashes its way online.

As expected the plot is pretty "meh", but it's basically a revenge tale that has Paul getting behind the wheel in a dangerous cross country race against the wealthy ex-NASCAR racer who got him sent to prison. Comparisons to Fast & Furious abound, with the exception of Michael Keaton who looks like he's going to devour every single scene he's in. There's some major talent in the pit crew with Imogen Poots, Dominic Cooper, and Dakota Johnson co-starring (Kid Cudi is there too but....), although we know the real stars are the smashed up rides and booming engines.  Bring earplugs.

Directed by Scott Waugh, Need for Speed opens March 14th 2014.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' Bumped to 2015; First Look at Stars Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson

When Charlie Hunnam said "no mas" and dropped out of Universal and Focus Feature's Fifty Shades of Grey, the studios scrambled to find someone to take on the role of Christian Grey, eventually deciding on Jamie Dornan. But at the same time they were taking some of Hunnam's criticisms of the script to heart, recently hiring Mark Bomback to do some rewriting on what Kelly Marcel and Patrick Marber had done before. It's this aspect of the production that caused them to push back the start date, and now it's effected when we'll see the finished film in theaters.

Not surprisingly, Fifty Shades of Grey won't hit its target August 1st 2014 date, and has now been moved all way to February 13th 2015. That means it'll be ready just in time for Valentine's Day, in case any couples are looking to spice up the holiday with dinner, dessert, and the BDSM erotic thriller. Dakota Johnson is will play Christian' s lover, Anastasia Steele; Luke Grimes is Christian's brother, Elliot; Jennifer Ehle is Anastasia's mother; and Victor Rasuk is her best friend, Jose.  Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing.

After a number of other high-profile names had been mentioned for the Grey and Steele roles, some were surprised that two relative unknowns in Dornan and Johnson were chosen. Now we're getting a look at what producers saw in the duo as they graced the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly, with him looking spiffy and possessive, and her willing to be possessed. That seems about right, doesn't it? What do you think? Do they look the parts at least?

First Look at Aaron Paul, Kid Cudi, and Dakota Johnson in 'Need for Speed'

Video game adaptations are Hollywood's new plaything, much the same way comic book films were just a few years ago. Over the last few months we've seen many of the top video game franchises optioned to become features, and one of the first was Need for Speed, based on the best-selling racing series. Unlike the awful video game movies that were a foul stain on the 1980s and '90s, this one actually looks promising with a cast that includes Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Dakota Johnson, Imogen Poots and Kid Cudi. Ok, not so much for Kid Cudi but everyone else is pretty terrific, and now we get our first look at them in the film.

EW has debuted the first Need for Speed images, which feature Mr. Cudi and Paul on set, in which the Breaking Bad star describes as as "throwback to the Steve McQueen era of car movies". Dominic Cooper is in the other image opposite Dakota Johnson, the actress suddenly on fire after landing the lead in Fifty Shades of Grey.  He plays the villain of the piece, while she is Paul's ex-girlfriend, now hooked up with Cooper. The story centers on a cross-country street race Paul's character must win to get revenge after being released from prison.

Directed by Scott Waugh, Need for Speed opens on March 14th 2014.

Charlie Hunnam is Christian Grey, Dakota Johnson is Anastasia Steele in 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

After more than a year of speculation, rumors, supposed confirmations, and other talk that never amounted to much of anything, Universal has finally decided who will take the sought-after roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in their adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. After rumors surfaced last month that Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson of 21 Jump Street were on the studio's radar, Universal has now issued a statement confirming both are now strapped in for the lead roles. And yep, that's an intentional S&M joke. Whomp.

The news has since been backed up by a tweet by author E.L. James, whose saucy novel began as Twilight fan-fiction and has since skyrocketed to the top of the bestseller charts. It follows the dangerous, erotic BDSM relationship between billionaire Christian Grey (Hunnam) and the sexually inexperienced Anastasia Steele (Johnson). The other two books in the trilogy, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, will presumably be next if this one proves to be the hit Universal expects it to be.

Hunnam is a star on the rise, having just played the heroic lead in Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim. He also has a role in the director's upcoming ghost story, Crimson Peak. Johnson is coming off the recently-canceled sitcom Ben and Kate, and is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith. She's had a couple of scene-stealing performances in The Social Network, 21 Jump Street, and The Five-Year Engagement, but this is obviously the biggest part of her career.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey is expected to hit on August 1st 2014.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' Eyes Dakota Johnson for Anastasia Steele

The Fifty Shades of Grey rumors have picked up in earnest all of a sudden, after a period of relative inactivity when Sam Taylor-Johnson came aboard as director. With a release set for under a year from now, producers don't have a lot of time to keep entertaining every obsessive fan's wishlist for the two lead roles. With Charlie Hunnam rumored for the part of billionaire BDSM bad boy Christian Grey earlier today, another name has emerged for to play Anastasia Steele.

The Wrap reports that 21 Jump Street and The Social Network scene-stealer Dakota Johnson is a "serious contender", while others like Shailene Woodley and Alicia Vikander have (wisely) taken their names out of the running. For such a high-profile adaptation it's a little surprising that there hasn't been a greater demand to star in it, with most who have been attached dropping out before talks have even begun. Perhaps it has to do with the story, which has the sexually inexperienced Anastasia dominated by Christian, and finding it to be liberating and empowering or something like that.  As beloved as the book is by women everywhere, hence the coining of the phrase "mommy porn", it's also been the subject of jokes and derision for its questionable message. Done wrong and the film could be a disaster that ruins careers. Or it could be an erotic Twilight for adults. Those are the risks.

Whether the film is any good or not, Johnson has the goods and is a definite star on the rise. The daughter of Don "Crockett" Johnson and Melanie Griffith (no stranger to erotic thrillers herself), she was great in the otherwise blah Five-Year Engagement, and was the only reason to watch Fox's short-lived sitcom Ben & Kate.

So what do you think? Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson? Go ask your mom if that'll work for her. Fifty Shades of Grey is set to open next August.

Sure Shots: Dakota Johnson; Jason Bateman; Douglas Booth

* Fox sitcom Ben and Kate may be cancelled, but its stars are doing just fine. Nat Faxon, has his co-directing debut The Spectacular Now coming up later this year, and now Dakota Johnson has joined the video game adaptation Need for Speed. Already starring Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots, Michael Keaton, Dominic Cooper, Kid Cudi, and Rami Malek, the story follows a car enthusiast who is forced into a dangerous cross-country race to get revenge on the man who killed his friend and framed him for the crime. Act of Valor's Scott Waugh is directing. [Deadline]

* When Adam Shankman and Jason Bateman dropped out of an adaptation of Jonthan Tropper's This is Where I Leave You, it looked like the project was dead in the water. But Shawn Levy stepped in to fill the director's chair, and his arrival has apparently stirred Bateman's interest because he's now back on board. The story follows a family who are forced to sit Shiva for a week after the death of a patriarch, and all sorts of issues are brought to light. At one point the cast would have included Jason Sudeikis, Leslie Mann, Zac Efron, Malin Akerman, and Goldie Hawn, but now a new round of casting is taking place. Ari Graynor, Isla Fisher, Zoe Saldana, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kathryn Hahn are being asked to read for a role, while Amy Adams is also in the mix. [THR]

* Fast-rising star Douglas Booth already has Romeo & Juliet with Hailee Steinfeld, and Darren Aronofsky's Noah coming up, and now he's signed on for the next film by the Wachowskis. He's joined Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie Redmayne, and Sean Bean in Jupiter Ascending, the large-scale science fiction film about a poor Russian immigrant (Kunis) who has the same genetic make-up as the Queen of the Universe, making her a target for assassination. It's unclear what Booth's role is at this point. [Variety]

Sure Shots: Dakota Johnson; World War Z; The Smurfs 2

* Dakota Johnson may be best known as the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, but she's quickly getting out of her parents' shadow with a number of small roles in some big flicks. She had a brief appearance in The Social Network as one of Justin Timberlake's sexual conquests. She appeared earlier this year in teen drama, Beastly, and she'll pop up in Jonah Hill's 21 Jump Street remake as well. But now she's also snagged her first real leading role, as Variety reports she'll topline teen comedy, Gay Dude. Nicholas Braun(Red State), Hunter Cope, and Dreama Walker(Gran Torino) also star in the story about two best friends who pledge to lose their virginity before graduation, only to have one come out as gay. Chris Nelson is directing.

* Paramount isn't afraid to unleash zombie Hell on every other studio's holiday season. They've decided to drop their zombie war film, World War Z, into the crowded December 21st 2012 spot. That puts them up against Johnn Depp's Lone Ranger, Ang Lee's Life of Pi, and Philip Noyce's Hunter Killer. Somebody's going to blink and bail out. Count on it. Marc Forster is shooting World War Z right now, with Brad Pitt, James Badge Dale, Bryan Cranston, Matthew Fox, and Mireille Enos starring.

* I stand by my defense of The Smurfs, even if it makes me a social pariah amongst my critic colleagues for a few more weeks. I can always take solace in the fact that the film has kicked ass at the box office around the world, meaning that the planned CGI/Live-action trilogy is going to happen. That's at least three more hours my friends will have to suffer through. Muhahahahaha!  Sony isn't wasting any time getting the ball rolling, either, setting the smurfy sequel for August 2nd 2013.
