Deborah Ann Woll Joins 'Daredevil' as Karen Page

With True Blood drawing to a close, one of its stars is biting into a brand new role. Deborah Ann Woll, who plays the baby vamp Jessica on the long-running HBO show, will jump from that to Marvel's upcoming Daredevil series, taking on the important role of Karen Page.

Charlie Cox is set to play Matt Murdock aka Daredevil on the 13-episode series, with Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, Rosario Dawson in a mystery role presumed to be Elektra (I think she's Lady Bullseye or Typhoid Mary, personally), Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, and Peter Shinkoda as Hachiro. Woll will be playing the part of Dardevil's greatest love but also a source of great turmoil in his life. Page was introduced in the very first issue of the Daredevil comic, beginning as a secretary as Murdock's law firm. She would eventually fall on hard times and in the classic "Born Again" storyline she would become a heroin addict, turn to pornography, and desperate for a fix she sells Murdock's secret identity. It would eventually get back to the Kingpin who destroys his life.

Steven S. DeKnight is showrunner on Daredevil with Drew Goddard writing the first two episodes. [THR]

Trailer Time: 'Ruby Sparks', starring Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan

Anybody who has at one point or another imagined themselves as a novelist, including yours truly, has created a female character who embodies every physical and personality trait they hold most dear. But what would they do if that girl suddenly showed up on their doorstep? And would she be everything they'd hoped her to be, or the greatest disappointment ever?

That's sorta what Paul Dano's character is going through in Ruby Sparks, a quirky new meta-comedy directed by Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton, their first film since Little Miss Sunshine. Formerly title He Loves Me and co-written by star Zoe Kazan, the story follows a successful writer(Dano) who can't seem to come back with a strong follow-up. Unlucky in love and struggling with writer's block, he creates a character named Ruby Sparks who is the perfect girl of his dreams, only to wake up one day and find her in his kitchen.

The tone has a touch of Charlie Kauffman, which is definitely a good thing, but what's going to matter most is how they play with the meta nature of the story. They seem to be aiming for the light romantic comedy crowd, and with Dano and the always great Kazan they should be able to pull that off effortlessly. Part of me expects more, though, so I'm assuming there's more to the story than this trailer reveals. Featuring an astounding cast with Steve Coogan, Chris Messina, Deborah Ann Woll, Antonio Banderas, Elliott Gould, Annette Bening, Alia Shawkat, and Aasif Mandvi, Ruby Sparks opens on July 25th. Catch .44 adds Twilight, True Blood Vamps

How do you follow up starring in one of the most successful movie franchises and popular TV shows in recent memory? If you're Twilight's Nikki Reed and True Blood's Deborah Ann Woll, you trade in the mainstream craziness for something more indie.  Both have signed on to star in Catch .44 alongside Bruce Willis, Forest Whittaker, and Malin Ackerman.

The Aaron Harvey directed actioner is about three beautiful assassins sent on a dangerous mission that could prove to be their last. Reed got her start co-writing and starring in Catherine Hardwicke's 2003 film, Thirteen. She currently plays Rosalie Hale as part of the Twilight franchise. Deborah Ann Woll is best known as Jessica, the newbie vampire in HBO's True Blood.

Paul Thomas Anderson Courting Witherspoon, Seyfried, Stone, and Woll for Next Film?

If you're Paul Thomas Anderson, you don't sweat it when a studio passes on one of your films. You've already created four of the most important films of the last two decades in Boogie Nights(my fave film evah!), Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love(our namesake!), and There Will Be Blood. Hard Eight is no slouch, either. Despite the lack of studio financing, PTA is still casting roles for his film, The Master, about a guy who creates a faith-based organization that expands into an empire. Think There Will Be Blood, just substitute oil for prayers.

With PTA favorite Philip Seymour Hoffman already attached along with Jeremy Renner, the task is now to fill some of the female roles. The reports are that Reese Witherspoon(Cruel Intentions) has already been made an offer to play Mary-Sue, the wife of the main character. At this point she hasn't accepted.

Up for the other major female role are Emma Stone(Zombieland), Amanda Seyfried(Dear John), and Deborah Ann Woll(True Blood). This would be for the daughter of The Master and his wife.

I'd be interested in seeing any of these actresses work with PTA. While I don't know much about the role itself, I can see Emma Stone as somebody he'd work with not just on this film but in future projects as well. She's just enough of a known commodity to be a marketing plus, but we haven't seen her work on anything where she really gets dirtied up, something which I can pretty much promise will happen working on a PTA project.
