Rocket Raccoon May Have Some Four-Legged Company in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

It should be obvious at this point but there may be Guardians of the Galaxy SPOILERS beyond this point. Got it? Good.

Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn recently confirmed that his buddy Nathan Fillion would be making a cameo in the Marvel film, which predictably led to a lot of guessing as to who he might be. While popular opinion steered towards Rich Rider aka Nova, some figured with the abundance of CGI characters we may not actually see Fillion on screen; we may just hear his distinctive voice. According to a source over at Schmoes Know, Fillion will be voicing Cosmo, who happens to be a telepathic Russian cosmonaut canine.

Kevin Feige revealed Cosmo would be in the film some months back during a Q&A but this is the first we've heard about it since. In the comics, Cosmo was a test dog sent up into space by the Russians, where he came aboard the space station Knowhere, gained telepathic abilities and became the chief security officer. So we'll get to hear Nathan Fillion bantering with Bradley Cooper bantering with Vin Diesel which should be worth the price of admission alone. Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1st.

Fan-Favorite Cameo in 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Confirmed

I hesitate to call this a Guardians of the Galaxy spoiler because it's been talked about for months. The real spoiler would be the character being played and not so much the actor playing him, but let's just offer up some *Spoiler Space* as a courtesy to those who may not be aware....

Okay, so Nathan Fillion and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn have quite a history, working together on the movies Slither and Super. They're also good friends off-camera, which led many to speculate Fillion would have a role in the Marvel movie. And here's what Fillion said some months ago on that very subject....

Fillion:  "[Want] to get a part? Or maybe did. I'm just saying maybe. Maybe it'll be a surprise. Maybe check the credits of the movie when you watch it."

Turns out the answer is "yes', yes Fillion has a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy, confirmed by Gunn himself...
And of course people have been saying Fillion would play Rich Rider aka Nova, a member of the Nova Corps which we know have quite a role to play in the movie. Turns out that is not what's happening...

Fillion may not even be a recognizable Marvel character. Perhaps he shows up as a "spin" on his Mal Reynolds character from Firefly?  So keep an eye out for Fillion when Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1st.

Does Nathan Fillion Have a Cameo in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'?

While there was a groundswell of fan support for Nathan Fillion to take the lead role in Ant-Man, that never materialized. However, they may have a chance to see him another Marvel film, one that actually makes the most sense; James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Comic-Con hit St. Louis recently, and during a Firefly panel Fillion was asked if he wanted a role in the film, considering his past working with Gunn on Slither and Super. Fillion's response has been blowing up the Internet ever since....

Fillion: "[Want] to get a part? Or maybe did. I'm just saying maybe. Maybe it'll be a surprise. Maybe check the credits of the movie when you watch it."

It would make sense for more than the connection to Gunn. The tone of Guardians of the Galaxy, the sort of space Western feel of it, is certainly reminiscent of Firefly. Fillion would fit right in, and assuming he's being honest let's hope he's playing a character with a chance to return. [Hypable]

Neil Burger talks Uncharted: Drake's Fortune; says he's "beginning from scratch"

When Neil Burger(The Illusionist) took over for David O. Russell as director of video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, one of two things were assumed:

1. That this meant Mark Wahlberg would also depart, since his running buddy was no longer involved.

2. That everything O. Russell planned storywise, which meant expanding and focusing on the Drake family of treasure seekers, would be out the window.

Updating fans of the blockbuster video game of the film's status with Comingsoon, Burger pretty much confirmed both of those things have indeed happened.

Burger: "Mainly we're beginning from scratch and going back to the videogame," .It's really one of the most cinematic videogames, and one that has really developed characters. So, you know, there's a lot of cool, really intense things that, if they work for the film's story, I want to use them."

The site also noted that Burger hasn't even looked at O. Russell's plans for the adventure project. He would go on to compare the property to The Bourne Identity, in that it's not going to be your typical treasure hunting film, in the same way Bourne wasn't your typical Cold War spy film. I can get down with that.

But what about Nathan Fillion? The Serenity star has been the desired face of the lead character ever since the film was first announce, and when Wahlberg was on board cried like a bunch of schoolgirls with skinned knees about it. Well, that's how I took their response, anyway...

Burger: "I think he's a good actor," Burger adds, "[But] I think there's a lot of really good actors who don't even look like [Nathan Drake] who could play it. Where we are right now is that we're literally starting from scratch on the screenplay, and I think that once we finish it, then we'll go to actors and see who's available and who's right for the parts. Whenever that happens."

Sounds like there's still a lot of work left to be done, but it doesn't appear as if Wahlberg is in the picture anymore. I don't think Fillion fanatics should be holding their breaths either. Although Drake's Fortune has a rather large and vocal fanbase, it's going to take a proven commodity to sell this beyond the station of other video game adaptations. Without one, you'll be seeing Drake's Fortune in the $5 bin next to copies of Tekken and DOA: Dead or Alive. (which I love, not gonna lie).

So would make for the best Nathan Drake? Having not ever played the game, I can't really say.

*UPDATED* Whedon Confirms Nathan Fillion is Ant-Man in The Avengers; Ruffalo in final talks

UPDATE: *Turns out it was all a joke, ya'll! Joss was just kidding around and the internet exploded, with me catching some of the shrapnel!*

Today at the Joss Whedon panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, the director confirmed that Nathan Fillion will be starring as Hank "Ant-Man" Pym in The Avengers. This follows weeks of speculation and rumor dropping, with even rumors that Adrien Brody would be taking on the role. Fillion will be teaming up again with Whedon, who he worked with on the TV show Firefly and its big screen spinoff, Serenity. The pair also joined up as part of Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog most recently. Edgar Wright's solo Ant-Man is in the planning stages, meaning that Fillion is the likely guy for that film as well.

This makes it more likely that Fillion will be on stage with the rest of the star studded cast when the Marvel movie panel is held tomorrow. The question now is whether or not they'll sign Mark Ruffalo in time for the event. Rumors are that Marvel is anxiously  trying to tie things up with him so he can be flown in by the time of the panel. The sticking point? Money, of course.!

Nathan Filion, Eva Longoria in The Avengers?

Comicbookmovie.com is reporting that Marvel Studios may have already filled two of the key roles in their upcoming superhero team-up flick, The Avengers. They're reporting that Nathan Fillion(Waittress, Serenity) has entered final talks to play Hank "Ant-Man" Pym, while Eva Longoria(Desperate Housewives) will play his future wife Janet Van Dyne, known as The Wasp.

Consider this all rumor for now. If it all pans out they'll be joining Robert Downey Jr. as the only confirmed actor for the Joss Whedon directed film.

Fillion is just geeky enough to get the Hank Pym character just right. The surprise is Longoria, who is the last person I expected to see involved. Dammit what happened to Oliva Munn? I'd much rather have her, bad acting and all.
