Tommy Lee Jones Braves the Old West in 'The Homesman'

In what seems to be an entry into awards season cinema Tommy Lee Jones and Hilary Swank star in this story about a man saved by a pioneer woman and tasked with safely transporting three mentally disturbed women from Nebraska to Iowa.

First and foremost I will see this movie because I think Tommy Lee Jones should star in every "Old America" tale, I mean, seriously, have you seen the side by side of him and Andrew Jackson? Tell me that's not a man who looks the time.

Anyway, back to The Homesman, I'll be totally honest...the first 90 seconds of this trailer made me question my interest. It almost starts like it's going to be an odd couple comedy set in the old west with Jones playing a wild old prospector type. Then, in about 10 seconds, the serious nature of their voyage is brought to light. Jones' George Briggs tells Swanks' Mary Bee Cutty about the dangers they face on their trip, "Wagon trains that don't want to see crazy people, traders who will surely rape you, and Indians who will rape you". Just like that you see that this is going to be no pleasure cruise, that's not even to mention the weather and rough terrain they have to brave. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

4 Minute Extended Preview of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

We are now less than a month away from what is promising to be the crown jewel of the Marvel stable Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits on April 4th here in the states but we have for you today a 4 minute extended preview. The preview is basically an extension of the scene we've seen in every preview thus far, Cap, Widow, and their team getting ready for an assault and Cap jumping out of the plane without a chute. We find out in this clip that the team is there to take out some pirates who've taken hostage aboard a merchant vessel. What follows gives us the best look yet at Cap as a true leader. The Avengers didn't really give us enough of that for my taste, but we see here that he's settled into the role and can command with the best of them. Oh, yeah, also ScarJo still looks incredibly good in tight leather. Described by many as a 70's espionage thriller, The Winter Soldier definitely guarantee's some major changes in the Marvel universe...for those unfamiliar, the events in the comic book Winter Soldier storyline were the catalyst for the epic Civil War storyline where heroes had to choose sides when the government decides that costumed heroes should give up their secret sides and register or be declared outlaws. The biggest thing that matches up here is the exclusion of Nick Fury from S.H.I.E.L.D., and for the record no, I don't think Fury is actually dead as the trailers will lead you to believe. I'm fairly certain that we will find out, probably in post-credits, that what we see if mearly Fury faking his death so he can split from SHIELD. This raises a ton of other questions, most notably with regard to Chris Evans announcing a break from acting after his current contract expires, Marvel's Civil War ended with the death of Steve Rodgers...could we be approaching that?

Academy Award Nominee 'Ernest and Celestine' Gets a Trailer!

You know what's great? To have an initial impression of something, then having that something change your mind for the good. Ernest and Celestine, an Academy Award nominee for Best Animated Feature, is like a childhood book come to life. The first 20 seconds or so of the trailer had me sitting here wanting to hit stop, "Ughh...another artsy animated movie" said me. Then, as soon as we see the first meeting of the two title characters, that all starts to morph meh, to like, to love. The story, which I'm sure is a rather intelligent and astute allegory for our current state of fearing what is different, seems like it will be one of those which is sweet and fun enough to let all children enjoy but heavy and smart enough that they, hopefully, will learn some important life lessons. The look, which admittedly jarred me at first, grows on you almost immediately once you make the connection between it's style and that of so many children's books that we all spent so many hours reading and re-reading. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think. If you ask me I think we have one of those very rare films that knows how to entertain a young audience without being devoid of a deep meaning.

New Hair Raising Trailer for 'Child of God'

Child of God, the latest and largest directorial effort from James Franco has been surrounded by buzz, both good and bad, since it first started it's run around the festival circuit last year. Travis caught it at the Virginia Film Festival and you can get his full rundown right here. I should really learn from past experience that an awesome trailer does not a good movie make, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I told you that I didn't want to buy a ticket the second this trailer ended. That being said, the trailer doesn't really jive with what I've heard of the movie's plot. The film is, according to Travis and some other folks I've talked to, an extremely dark and disturbing story about a man who grew up almost totally disconnected and isolated from society to the point where he fits the "raised by wolves" stereotype and later turns on society when he's forced to confront it/us. The trailer paints a picture of a disturbed man, no doubt there, but it seems almost like a serial killer style horror movie...if the seedier parts of the movie remain when it is released to the public they may be in for quite a shock. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think!

'Blue Ruin' Trailer Promises to Bring the Tension

Blue Ruin, a festival favorite already, is being touted as Hitchcockian in it's ability to build a tense atmosphere. One of the pilars of building such an atmosphere is never knowing entirely what is going on...I'm determined not to spoil this movie for myself by reading Travis's review, which you can find here, so needless to say all I've gathered is that a man gets out of jail and a war of revenge, bloody and brutal, starts. Atmosphere...I've said that word at least twice already in this paragraph, and there's a reason for that. In a thriller, a REAL thriller, it's all that matters. You can have the same story that's been told time and again but if you build a world that feels as chaotic, fear-inducing, and violent as your story claims it to be, well then you have something new all together. As you'll see in the trailer below Blue Ruin was shot with an understanding of how important this aspect is. The world seems muted...the way a depressed person would see colors, it's all a bit dirty, and most importantly there's a palpable air of uncertainty surrounding each second.

New Trailer for 'The Face of Love'

Well...this was an emotional way to start my Friday! The Face of Love, a new romantic drama starring Ed Harris and Annette Benning, is all at once tragic, sweet, off-putting, and hopeful. When Nikki's husband Garret (Ed Harris) dies unexpectedly she is inconsolable. Aimlessly wandering through life, sure that she'll never feel that love again, Nikki starts trying to do the things that used to bring her some level of happiness, things like going to a museum. It's then that she meets Tom (also played by Ed Harris), a man who bears a striking resemblance to her late husband. It's not long before the two begin to fall in love and begin to face all of the problems that you could imagine a person in this situation would come into.

On one hand it seems extremely creepy...you KNOW that she is, at least at first, simply imagining that Tom is her late husband. On the other hand you could imagine it being a bit of a dream for one to lose someone who was a part of them and then meet someone new that they could love who would constantly make them feel close to the one they lost.

'Metallica Through the Never' trailer drops, and it's a weird one

Like, a really weird one. I have to be honest and say that I somewhat lost my respect for Metallica years ago during their crusade against Napster, if only because they seemed so smug and self-righteous and terrible during the whole thing. But we're years removed from that now, and sure, I'll blast Metallica really loudly in the car because they are, weirdly, a great sing-along band. And anyway, am I even the targeted demographic for their upcoming tour film, Metallica Through the Never? Probably not.

Because, how do I put this even more bluntly: Metallica Through the Never seems super bizarre. It seems structured like half concert footage, half narrative, with one of my favorite people in the world Dane DeHaan (of The Place Beyond the Pines, Lawless, Chronicle, and my daydreams) starring as a crew member for the band who somehow ends up in the middle of a revolution or uprising or riot or something while on the way to the concert? And then he has to battle fascist cops or masked rioters or ... something? I don't know, I don't get it. I just want to stare at Dane DeHaan in a hoodie; IS THAT SO WRONG?

For this trailer that I just can't figure out, click through; you might have better luck than I did. Metallica Through the Never comes out on September 27, 2013.

Celebrapocalypse! Green Band Trailer for Seth Rogen's 'This is the End' hits hard!

Almost two full years ago we started hearing about the Seth Rogen flick in development about him and his friends stuck in a house while the world ended around them. Today, finally, we have a trailer. It sounds like literally the coolest way to go out, hanging out partying with Hollywood's funniest guys and hottest girls then BOOM, dunzo. Constanza'd if you will, out on a high note. After watching this trailer I sincerely hope that, except for the whole apocalypse thing, their parties are exactly like they are portraying here....yes that includes Michael Cera smacking Rihanna's ass.

The first thing that pops out at me is that I'm not very good at visualizing things. We actually got a chance to ask the man himself, Seth Rogen, about this flick last summer while he was promoting the awesome and underrated 50/50. When he said it would be him, Franco, Jonah Hill, and a few others riding out the end of the world in a house I pictured something along the lines of a house you'd find in my neighborhood, damn I was off. Franco's is the house in which they seek shelter and a suburban rambler it ain't. Past that the movie looks incapable of failing at funny. Rogen, Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson, and a version of Emma Watson that I can only hope is relatively close to the real thing. What is it about a woman who's capable of making fun of her self that is so damned sexy? Check out the trailer below and look for This Is The End in theaters this summer.

Star Trek Super Bowl Spot

Here's the spot that ran during last night's Super Bowl for the new Star Trek. The trailers and spots they are releasing are really doing alot for my confidence in this movie. I definatley see what they mean by 'This is not Star Trek for Trekkies', the action, which I thought lacked in the movies/TV series before, seems to be on overload. I just hope it's not like a "watch cool Capt. Kirk be a space James Bond" type flick but we shall see.
