Samuel L. Jackson Reveals Nick Fury's Next Appearance; Marvel Foils Don Cheadle's Spoiler Attempts

I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible. Not just because nobody needs to have Captain America: The Winter Soldier details ruined for them, but because we don't want Marvel to hurt anybody around here. Anyway, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury saw his entire status quo altered dramatically in the Captain America sequel, making his future appearances...well, let's just say they'll be more important than ever.

Vulture caught up with him and asked if we'd be seeing Fury any time soon, and Jackson replied he'll return to Agents of SHIELD, which is in the midst of their 'Uprising' event....

Jackson: "I did! Last week! I just shot the end-of-the-season show."

Of course, Jackson was reluctant to reveal any further information when pressed on it, adding "You're trying to get me fired and killed! I don't talk about Marvel's business. None of us do."

Right. And we have a pretty good example why they're afraid to spill the beans on Marvel's plans. Don Cheadle appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show, and just as he was about to leak some super-secret info on Avengers: Age of Ultron, but before he could do it, Hawkeye or some other Marvel sniper made his presence felt. This is a pretty fun video.

4 Minute Extended Preview of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'

We are now less than a month away from what is promising to be the crown jewel of the Marvel stable Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits on April 4th here in the states but we have for you today a 4 minute extended preview. The preview is basically an extension of the scene we've seen in every preview thus far, Cap, Widow, and their team getting ready for an assault and Cap jumping out of the plane without a chute. We find out in this clip that the team is there to take out some pirates who've taken hostage aboard a merchant vessel. What follows gives us the best look yet at Cap as a true leader. The Avengers didn't really give us enough of that for my taste, but we see here that he's settled into the role and can command with the best of them. Oh, yeah, also ScarJo still looks incredibly good in tight leather. Described by many as a 70's espionage thriller, The Winter Soldier definitely guarantee's some major changes in the Marvel universe...for those unfamiliar, the events in the comic book Winter Soldier storyline were the catalyst for the epic Civil War storyline where heroes had to choose sides when the government decides that costumed heroes should give up their secret sides and register or be declared outlaws. The biggest thing that matches up here is the exclusion of Nick Fury from S.H.I.E.L.D., and for the record no, I don't think Fury is actually dead as the trailers will lead you to believe. I'm fairly certain that we will find out, probably in post-credits, that what we see if mearly Fury faking his death so he can split from SHIELD. This raises a ton of other questions, most notably with regard to Chris Evans announcing a break from acting after his current contract expires, Marvel's Civil War ended with the death of Steve Rodgers...could we be approaching that?

Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think

Jamie Foxx talks Electro in 'Spider-Man 2'; Samuel L. Jackson on Nick Fury's future

When Jamie Foxx was tapped to star as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel, it must have taken a lot of people by surprise. The Oscar-winning actor is on the verge of one of his most controversial performances in Django Unchained, and so he's moved on to something presumably much leaner by tackling the superhero film. But it does sound as if Marc Webb and Co. have a very specific idea of how they intend to approach the Spidey villain, and Foxx was surprising chatty about it recently.

While talking to Blackfilm and MTV, Foxx revealed that the classic green and yellow costume is out, in favor what sounds like a costume closer to the Ultimate version of the character.

Foxx: “Marc Webb and all those guys that are doing it are smart, they know that it has to make sense in 2013.  The suit is really slick, it’s actually black, but it’s the new age."

“They want to have it more grounded and not as comic book-y, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happened. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.”

Sounds like Electro's going to get experimented on and hung like a slab of meat once his transformation occurs. But who's doing all the poking and prodding? Surely not Peter Parker, right? Any other well-known scientists in the house? Norman Osborn, maybe?

He also reveals that Max Dillon(Electro's civilian identity) isn't an outright villain as he's frequently depicted. Instead, something happens to changes him, and of course a certain webslinger plays a critical role....

Foxx: “You’ll see his whole life is just no one is talking to him, people have stolen his ideas at the company, he’s a nobody.  And at a certain point Spider-Man bumps into him and says, ‘You’re my guy, you’re my ears and eyes on the street,’ and he says his name, Max, and no one’s ever said Max Dillon’s name, and he goes ‘Wow.’  And so when Spider-Man leaves he sort of thinks that somehow, ‘I am Spider-Man’s partner,’ and so he starts cutting out his face and pasting it on his board at home.  When everything goes bad, his mom doesn’t remember his birthday, I mean all these crazy things happen until finally he has something tragic happen, and then when it turns on he lights it up.”

Although in the comic book world Spider-Man is considered one of The Avengers, in the cinematic universe he's about as far away as a character can be. On that side of the Marvel map, Samuel L. Jackson has been chatting up the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury, and as usual the conversation turned to prior rumors of a possible solo film. Jackson doesn't outright shoot the idea down, but it does sound like Fury's going to have a much larger part to play in Captain America: The Winter Soldier....

Jackson: "I think a lot of people know [Nick Fury's story]. I know him as something else because I've been alive longer than most of the fans that watch the movies. So I know Nick Fury as the World War II veteran and all that stuff. It might be interesting to do [that story] one day, but we find out little bits and pieces about Nick and we're going into 'Captain America 2' in late March."

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2nd 2014. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens a month earlier on April 4th.

Samuel L. Jackson reveals when Nick Fury will appear next

Nick Fury's been the thread connecting Marvel's cinematic universe ever since his first memorable appearance in Iron Man. But even the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. needs some time to recharge his batteries and relax, so we won't be seeing him for a little while.

While talking to Total Film, Samuel L. Jackson revealed when we can expect to see the eyepatched agent again....

Jackson: “I think my next time as Nick Fury is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Because I’m not in Iron Man 3. None of the Avengers are in Iron Man 3. It’s a standalone Iron Man movie."

He doesn't mention Thor: The Dark World but since it opens six months before Captain America we can assume he won't be in it, either. Jackson signed a nine-film deal on his contract, so Marvel is probably just trying to use him sparingly. There had been talk of maybe spinning off a Nick Fury solo film but I would think they'd draw up a totally new deal if that were to be the case.

Jumping back to Iron Man 3, Kevin Feige recently talked about the lack of other heroes in the film, stating that while the overall vision remains, there's a need to make these franchises stand on their own. Smart move.

Feige: “Iron Man 3 doesn’t feature any of the other Avengers, or Nick Fury showing up, or any of those world-blending conceits that the Phase One films had. You have to keep in mind that Iron Man 3 had been in the works for almost a year, year and a half before The Avengers was released. We’re sticking to the vision for these films, and showing once again that these characters are just as interesting alone as they are together.”

So expect to see Fury pop up in Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4th 2014.

New international promos for 'The Avengers' featuring Black Widow, Nick Fury, and Iron Man

It makes sense for Disney and Marvel to hype the hell out of The Avengers across the globe, given the international make-up of the team. Black Widow(Scarlett Johansson) hails from Russia, and Thor's hometown is.....well, he's Norse in nature even if Asgard is technically in another world. To help promote the May 4th release of Marvel's biggest superhero movie yet, DisneyXD has released a handful of new promos featuring the sexy Black Widow kickin' ass and snappin' off huracanranas like a lucha libre star, and also Nick Fury(Samuel L. Jackson) and Iron Man(Robert Downey Jr.). All three feature snippets of old footage from other Marvel films mixed in with some never-before-seen stuff from The Avengers. Check those out below....

New set photos from possible Captain America post-credits sequence

Marvel's big superhero jam, The Avengers, begins shooting today. It's been a long, confusing build up to the Joss Whedon directed film, but now all the pieces appear to be in place. Both Iron Man films have been leading up to it, so did The Incredible Hulk, and next week  will do much the same. But there remained a small bit of business left for Joe Johnston to clean up in Captain America: The First Avenger, and so over the weekend he dragged star Chris Evans and the crew to Times Square for what appears to be a possible epilogue to the film.

What makes me say that? Well, we already know how the film ends. It takes place during WWII, but ultimately it winds up with Cap being frozen in ice(just like in the comics), only to be thawed out in our time so he can join The Avengers. The photos from the weekend shoot show Cap in the middle of NYC, speaking with Nick Fury(Samuel L. Jackson). Judging by Cap's gaping piehole, I'm going to guess he just woke up out of his 50 year sleep to find giant JumboTrons on every building and hot dog stands on every corner. More than likely this is a scene where Fury shows Cap how things are now, compared to the 1940s. It's entirely possible that, even though Johnston was there directing the scene, that it could possibly be at the beginning of The Avengers, but I doubt it. It's likely one of those post-credit sequences Marvel flicks have become synonymous with over the last few years. Does anyone do them better? Thanks to Eyeprime for the bulk of these images.

Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Toby Jones, Dominic Cooper, Derek Luke, and Neal McDonough. It opens in theaters on July 22nd!

Cobie Smulders to play Maria Hill in The Avengers

When Samuel L. Jackson was spilling his guts about The Avengers to Jimmy Fallon the other day, the most interesting thing he mentioned was that he was screen testing some ladies to play his assistant in the film.  My immediate reaction was that this character could be Sharon Carter, formerly Agent 13 in SHIELD and future love interest of Captain America. The real question though, was who would take on the role?

Then we heard exactly who was reading for the part, and some interesting names popped up like Mary Elizabeth Winstead(Death Proof), Morena Baccarin(V), and Cobie Smulders(How I Met Your Mother). Winstead was soon ruled out, and Baccarin was assumed the frontrunner due to her close association with Joss Whedon. The two worked together on the short-lived TV show, Firefly, and then again on the spin off movie, Serenity.  Turns out those past ties didn't amount to much, because now Deadline is reporting that Smulders looks to be the pick, and she won't be playing Sharon Carter. Instead she'll be Maria Hill, Nick Fury confidant and one-time leader of SHIELD.

Hill is actually a fairly recent character in the Marvel Universe, having only debuted back in 2005 during the Secret War storyline which saw Nick Fury go into hiding. She took over as head of SHIELD during that time, leading them through the superhero Civil War and a massive Skrull invasion before losing her job to Norman Osborne. Yes, THAT Norman Osborne. She is currently the leader of one team of Avengers.

Smulders is an actress I've dug for a long time, and I think she's more than capable of making a good Maria Hill. When Joss Whedon was trying to string together a Wonder Woman flick, Smulders was on his list and she would've been great for that, too. She's got some pretty hot Maxim spreads, also. Just sayin'.

It remains to be seen what kind of role Maria Hill really takes on, because it's not likely she'll be leading SHIELD, but more likely she'll be a recognizable, semi-important face who might get a couple of moments to shine. Since SHIELD is involved in nearly every Marvel movie, if her character gets a good reaction it's possible her role could expand.

Samuel L. Jackson confirms Nick Fury cameo in Thor; testing for a female sidekick in The Avengers

The most common thread amongst the entire Marvel cinematic universe has been Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, the leader of the worldwide peacekeeping organization, SHIELD. He's appeared in both Iron Man flicks, as well as The Incredible Hulk, and will be an essential cog when The Avengers comes out next year. Already slated to appear in Captain America: The First Avenger later this year, Jackson had long been telling us that Fury would not be showing up in Thor, however. Apparently that's now changed.

While hanging out on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jackson revealed that Fury and his eyepatch will indeed be showing up in both flicks due out this year...

Jackson: In the next month or so, I have to do one day on Thor, and I gotta do another day on Captain America, and in April we start The Avengers — the big deal with everybody. Thor and Captain America are pretty much done, but I haven’t done my part in them yet. I’m just connective tissue for them to join The Avengers.

That's not a lot of time on either set, so it sounds like it'll be another post-credit cameo. I gotta give Marvel credit, because they've made it essential for every single one of us to stay in our seats after the movie until the lights come up and they start sweeping up popcorn from around our feet.

Jackson also notes that he'll be doing screen tests with a number of actresses who will be playing a "sidekick" to Fury in The Avengers.  The Wasp? A new character? Or somebody more comic book conventional like say....Sharon Carter? Not only was she Fury's #2 in SHIELD, but there's the Captain America connection as well.  Sharon Carter is the niece of Peggy Carter, the wartime love interest of Captain America. Peggy is portrayed by Hayley Atwell in The First Avenger. So it makes some sense, don't you think?

Jackson Spills Secrets on NICK FURY's Future

That Samuel L. is a talkative chap. In a recent interview with Radio Big Boy(really, that's a real show?), he lets loose some secrets on the one-eyed super spy's future. He says that the Joss Whedon directed Avengers film will be shooting next year, and then after that there will be a huge S.H.I.E.L.D. film as well. Jackson also confirmed that he will appear in both Captain America: The First Avenger and in Iron Man 3, but will not be making an appearance in Thor.

A solo Nick Fury flick that doesn't involve David Hasselhoff? I'm there. If they make it a big, global swashbuckling adventure it could end up being the best of all the Marvel flicks, or at least the one that appeals most directly to me.

That last point, though, about Fury not showing up in Thor doesn't seem to make much sense considering SHIELD's scene at the end of Iron Man 2. This could all be a ruse to throw us off the trail, or maybe they don't want to bog Kenneth Branagh down with too much geeky continuity stuff.

Samuel L. spills on Avengers details

While everyone is in high gear for the upcoming individual superhero movies Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America, the true end game in most of our minds is The Avengers. Never has there been such a superhero all star team up on the silver screen as this movie would be, no....I don't count Fantastic Four. There has been speculation on this movie since Sam Jackson's Nick Fury showed up in the first Iron Man flick and it has only snowballed since then. Well it's definitiely happening and has fanboy favorite Joss Whedon, of Buffy fame, attached to direct, but we knew this already. What we didn't know was that there's a start date for the movie, next February and that, at least in SLJ's mind, it will be Nick Fury's film. Here's an excerpt from the IESB interview that can be found here.
Q: Do you have any desire to campaign for your own Nick Fury film?

Sam: The Avengers is my own starring vehicle for that character, pretty much.

Q: But, that’s so far away.

Sam: That's not that far away. It's just February. I've got time to get in shape and everything.

Ok, I'm not getting up in arms yet but if he's right we have a problem.Granted everything I say here is based on Jackson's above quote and the script is still being rewritten so take this as my thoughts on the film if he's right and Nick Fury is the main character. Plain and simple I don't like it. The movie should break down like this in my mind. First 20 min you show how the team comes together, next 30 all the team dynamic and shenanigans that are involved as well as setup for the mission of the film, next 40 the mission FULL OF ACTION, and the final 20 minutes should be wrapping up the story lines and setting up for the next film. Now with this thought remember that Nick Fury is not an active member of the team he's their boss. He should be featured only in the setup of the mission and associated training as well as a few cut shots during the mission and obviously some good scenes after the climactic battle. If he's the feature of the film than The Avengers themselves become background which is NOT good. Again, not going to deeply into this since the scripts not even done and I'm sure Whedon understands what the fans want to see and that will show in his script rewrites.
