Sure Shots: Runaways; Tom Cruise/Will Smith; Joaquin Phoenix

* Marvel Studios is set to begin filming on Runaways, the hit comic written by former Lost scribe Brian K. Vaughn. Production Weekly reports that shooting will begin in January up until July 2011. The story involves a group of (mostly) teens who discover that their parents are supervillains and decide to run away and fend for themselves. Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist director, Peter Sollett is still attached to direct. And I'm still hyped. Other than the X-men, there hasn't been a movie about a Marvel comic that I actually like yet. This would change that...at least until Deadpool comes out.

* How'd you like to be at this lunch meeting? Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Anna Kendrick, Milo Ventimiglia, Chad Michael Murray, Jenna Elfman, Tom Arnold, Johnny Galecki, Eric Dane, and Tom Skerritt(how old must he have felt??) were all gathered together at the Saddle Ranch restaurant in West Hollywood for a table reading of Paper Wings. The film is about a bull rider who falls in love with an up and coming country singer. Reese Witherspoon is already attached, with Smith's production company developing the project.

* Anybody remember that mockumentary Casey Affleck was shopping around about his brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix? No? Well after what seems like forever, he's finally found someone to back the darn thing. Magnolia Pictures has picked up I'm Still Here: The Lost Year Of Joaquin Phoenix for theatrical release in September. The doc chronicles the time spent after Phoenix gave up acting to pursue a rap career and cure his terminal beard growth.
