Trailer Time: Colombiana, starring Zoe Saldana
My love of Luc Besson's films began with The Professional, and I'm sure I'm not all that different than most people in that regard. That led me to seeking out his earlier stuff, like his breathtaking The Big Blue and 1985's Subway. But it was the oft-imitated assassin flick, La Femme Nikita that really put him over the top for me. Lately, Besson has been mostly in a producer and writer role, backing up The Transporter franchise and the awesome District B13 movies. His last directorial effort was 2010's The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec, which apparently I'm going to need to order from France to see.
Besson's latest co-writing/producing effort is Colombiana, which sees him reuniting with Transporter 3 and future Taken 2 director, Olivier Megaton(damn his name is cool!). Besson, who also wrote and produced the Liam Neeson action pic, chose Megaton to be the guy to direct the long awaited, unlikely to ever happen sequel to The Professional. Colombiana looks like a combination of what that film could've been and La Femme Nikita, so you know this is right in Besson and Megaton's wheelhouse. Zoe Saldana stars as a woman on a 15 year quest to get revenge for her parents' murder, witnessed when she was just 10 years old. Check out the trailer below...
Colombiana is set to open in theaters on September 2nd!
