Neil Marshall to direct Hellfest for The Walking Dead producer

It's been a busy couple of weeks for the loose knit collective of horror filmmakers known as the Splat Pack. Leigh Whannell(Saw) just lined up financing for his dark comedy, The Mule. James Wan(Insidious) has lined up Xavier Gens(Hitman) direct House of Horror. And just last night we learned that Alexandre Aja(Piranha) is set to direct an adaptation of Horns, based on the novel by Joe Hill. Next on the list is Neil Marshall, probably best known for helming The Descent.  He's entered talks to step behind the camera for Hellfest, a possible franchise horror from The Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd.

Based on a script by William Penick and Chris Sey, the film is about a costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors of a Halloween theme park.  This will be Marshall's next film, with production set to begin next summer.

Marshall's been keeping himself busy ever since The Descent made him a fixture in the horror community. He last directed Centurion, the Michael Fassbender-starring action flick based on the disappearance of the Roman Ninth Legion. He's currently at work on a second season episode of HBO's Game of Thrones. [Deadline]
