Adam Sandler and Sony to cause a sugar coma with 'Candyland'

Another day, another deal between Hasbro and Universal goes down the crapper. After yesterday's news that the studio waved bye bye to Taylor Lautner and Stretch Armstrong, now it's Candyland that has set sail to more welcoming waters. The idiotic sounding film based on the board game you probably played once when you were four years old, has now moved on to Sony, and they've attached somebody who could use a hit, even if it means wallowing in the misery of something like this.

Adam Sandler is now aboard to star as well as co-write, joined by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog creator Robert Smigel. That means previous scribes  Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger have been shown the door, which must really sting when you're told you aren't good enough for Candyland. Kevin Lima(Enchanted) is still at the directing reins, though. Sandler will also be producing through his Happy Madison production house.

As bad as this sounds, it's actually a perfect fit for Sandler who is probably more successful with tacky family stuff(Click, Bedtime Stories) than braindead rubbish like Jack & Jill.

If you'll recall, Candyland was somehow being compared to  Lord of the Rings, I'm assuming with candy coated orcs carrying peppermint stick spears or something. It remains to be seen if that idea still holds or if Sandler and Smigel will do something totally different. I'm getting bad images of Kevin James and Nick Swardson as human lollipops. [THR]
