Kimberly Peirce to direct 'Carrie' remake

In MGM's ongoing quest to pimp their entire back catalog, they've made some pretty shrewd moves. Like tapping Jose Padilha to man a Robocop remake. When it comes to Carrie, the studio appears to be thinking outside the box once again, choosing Kimberly Peirce to helm the project.

Peirce will probably always be best known for her breakthrough gig directing Hilary Swank in Boys Don't Cry. Her follow-up, the underrated war drama, Stop-Loss, wasnt received nearly as well. In both movies, she managed to take really big complicated subjects and show the personal effect they have on regular people. I'm assuming she'll do the same for Carrie, making believable the bullied girl's sexual confusion and anger into violent, psychokinetic outbursts.

She'll have some help, with Stephen King's original novel being adapted by famed scribe Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, who also turned King's The Stand into a series of Marvel comic books. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad
