Sure Shots: 'The Stand'; 'Hancock 2'; 'Filth'

* What's a good way to prove you've got the goods to adapt The Stand, Stephen King's massive post-apocalyptic tale about the survivors of a global super virus? By adapting another Stephen King classic and having the studio lavish you with praise. Such is the case with David Kajganich, who Ben Affleck has chosen to write the horror/fantasy. Kajganich impressed Warner Brothers with his script for a potential adaptation of Stephen King's It. While I still think Affleck is a great choice to direct, Kajganich's resume is less impressive. Kajganich wrote the Michael Fassbender-starring horror, Blood Creek, and 2007's The Invasion with Nicole Kidman. [Vulture]

* It's been two years since we last heard anything about a possible Hancock sequel. Don't rememeber Hancock? It was only one of Will Smith's biggest hits ever, a superhero flick not attached to Marvel or DC and still managed to rake in over $600M. Yep, Hancock was pretty big shit. Peter Berg was pretty excited about a sequel for awhile, at the time saying everyone would be returning(that includes Charlize Theron) and that they had a major name ready to climb aboard. Well now it's 2012 and Berg is still optimistic, telling Comicbookmovie that he, Will Smith, and the producers have been holding meetings to come up with a story. In particular he said that Smith came up with the idea for it, which to me sounds like Hancock 2 might actually happen.

* Jim Broadbent(The Iron Lady), Imogen Poots(Fright Night), and Eddie Marsan(Happy Go Lucky) have joined James McAvoy and Jamie Bell in Filth, based on Irvine Welsh's crazy 1998 crime novel. Directed by Jon S. Baird, McAvoy plays Bruce Robertson, a sex-obsessed, cocaine addicted police officer who is supposed to be investigating a murder but is too hung up on his own various problems and selfish schemes to pay it much mind. Filming should begin soon with a hopeful 2013 release.
