Trailer Time: 'Kotoko', directed by Shinya Tsukamoto

Cult favorite Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto has been in a bit of a rut. To be honest, while many hold him in pretty high regard, I've only been able to get into his horror/cyberpunk Tetsuo series, with my personal favorite being the sequel. Why? Because it's cool to see humans transforming into weapons. They're all pretty crazy and extremely violent, though. Not everybody's cup of tea. Well, Tsukamoto is back with his latest film, Kotoko, and it may be just as wild as the rest.

The film focuses on a single mother suffering from double vision. When taking care of her  baby becomes too much, she devolves into paranoia and starts cutting herself. The only thing that cures the double vision is when she sings, but it's not enough, and after a nervous breakdown her baby is taken away. She soon finds herself stalked by a mysterious man she met on the bus, but enters into a volatile relationship with him, which causes her eyesight to improve.

Kotoko stars Japanese folk singer, Cocco, and as usual Tsukamoto cast himself in the other major lead role. The film has been working the festival circuit over the last year, winning an award in Venice, but it'll be hitting theaters in Japan in April, and the UK in August. So hopefully we won't be that far behind.  Check out the trailer for Kotoko below....[24fps]
